Totbox’s Throwback Thursday: S2 E5 Dancin’ Homer

Give me a “T”!, Give me another “T!”, Give me One More “T”! WHAT’S THAT AN ABBREVIATION FOR? That’s right, My Throwback Thursdays!!! I mean, Totbox’s Throwback Thursdays!!!!!!!

TSTO Addicts might already have a number of mascots, including a guy in a furry costume, but if anyone made a Totbox suit you can bet I won’t be wearing it :p (I can humiliate myself just fine As myself. Let someone else get the glory) :p

“Dancin’ Homer”
Homer not only acts like a goofball, but he meets The Goofball (in person), in this crowd pleasing episode.

On May 21st 1990 (this episode didn’t air) ‘Newhart’ had it’s Series finale, which is one of the best known series finales. Waking Up in bed in his original ‘The Bob Newhart Show’ which I guess is a form of time travel. Now there are more fun facts regarding both shows but for now I wanted to mention it for two reasons, 1. Tom Poston was a (figurative) goofball on ‘Newhart’ and he voices The Goofball in this episode which aired a few months later (which is reason number 2), (date perspective) November 8th 1990, the 5th episode of season 2 and the 18th episode of The Simpsons.

There are also items and things that appeared for the first time that Could come into TSTO in the future maybe. OH THE POSSIBILITIES:

Possible Skins: Dancin’ Homer, Ballpark cap and pennant waving Maggie.

Possible Buildings and Decorations: The Penny Loafer, I also like the Ball-Cart (Mr. Burns rides in on the field) and the statue of The Brave Men of the Army Reserve.

Possible Events: Dancing Event, Baseball (Tap Ball part 2) event , Merchandising mini-event (T-shirt stands, dolls, etc.) maybe Collect T-shirts like Pin-Collecting Lisa’s Pin Stand.

Characters and Things I didn’t mention because I personally have no interest in them joining the game Don’t Mention It: Isotopes Owner, Isotopes players (including Flash Baylor), Homer’s power plant Supervisor, Ballpark public, (Helen) the Organ player, Capital City folks, unknown Moe’s patrons (Except for the pale skinned Fella who we learn a little more about in S2 E11 named Richie Sakai, I’ll talk more about him in that post), Capitol City buildings (The Original Frenchie’s, Phil’s Gas, (Capital City) Duff Brewery, Comeback Motel, News Magazines stand) and various stadiums. There are also multiple neon signs with names of businesses but I’m going to leave those out (seriously don’t mention). Also the first celebrity guest star to play them-self (as seen bellow)

Burns needs help recognizing the Simpsons. He’s done this before and of course he does this in the future, and I won’t make note of it much in the future, but this was pretty odd since he last visited the entire family at their home, which cost him the election to be Governor. Also the card Smithers read said the family members names except Maggie (instead it said “And Expecting”) which is weird because in season 1, they had those cards but it had “Baby: Maggie”. I nitpick but like to give the benefit of the doubt that they made new cards but mistakenly grabbed the old cards and Burns just has a very bad memory (and this will be the last time I bring this up… unless I forget) :p

Homer mentioned that was the first time Marge fell asleep before he has (the idea of me rewatching the previous episodes to prove him wrong makes me sleepy, so I won’t), I just have a hard time believing it. Also Burns buys Homer and himself Beers at the ball game. The total came to $2.50 which is $1.25 for each (I haven’t been to a ball game in years, I can’t imagine them costing that cheap) but again it was the 90’s.

The Winfields are at the Capitol City Game (did Homer give them tickets? They have much better seats than Marge and the kids). This crowd cameo threw me a bit, up until then I was going to mention how Amazing it is that there can be crowds of unique faces/characters (that aren’t at all familiar, and believe me, I looked).

And on a funny note, Bart’s photo of Homer dancing with Princess Kashmir can be seen hung in the Capital City locker room (as if a random player had it). A little Easter Egg, I guess 🙂
