Totbox’s Throwback Thursday: S2 E5 Dancin’ Homer

Give me a “T”!, Give me another “T!”, Give me One More “T”! WHAT’S THAT AN ABBREVIATION FOR? That’s right, My Throwback Thursdays!!! I mean, Totbox’s Throwback Thursdays!!!!!!!

TSTO Addicts might already have a number of mascots, including a guy in a furry costume, but if anyone made a Totbox suit you can bet I won’t be wearing it :p (I can humiliate myself just fine As myself. Let someone else get the glory) :p

Please put your hands together and give a warm cheer for episode 18:

*cue “the baby elephant walk” song*

“Dancin’ Homer”
Homer not only acts like a goofball, but he meets The Goofball (in person), in this crowd pleasing episode.

On May 21st 1990 (this episode didn’t air) ‘Newhart’ had it’s Series finale, which is one of the best known series finales. Waking Up in bed in his original ‘The Bob Newhart Show’ which I guess is a form of time travel. Now there are more fun facts regarding both shows but for now I wanted to mention it for two reasons, 1. Tom Poston was a (figurative) goofball on ‘Newhart’ and he voices The Goofball in this episode which aired a few months later (which is reason number 2), (date perspective) November 8th 1990, the 5th episode of season 2 and the 18th episode of The Simpsons.

FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING: The Capital City Goofball

There are also items and things that appeared for the first time that Could come into TSTO in the future maybe. OH THE POSSIBILITIES:

Possible Skins: Dancin’ Homer, Ballpark cap and pennant waving Maggie.

Possible Buildings and Decorations: The Penny Loafer, I also like the Ball-Cart (Mr. Burns rides in on the field) and the statue of The Brave Men of the Army Reserve.

Possible Events: Dancing Event, Baseball (Tap Ball part 2) event , Merchandising mini-event (T-shirt stands, dolls, etc.) maybe Collect T-shirts like Pin-Collecting Lisa’s Pin Stand.

Characters and Things I didn’t mention because I personally have no interest in them joining the game Don’t Mention It: Isotopes Owner, Isotopes players (including Flash Baylor), Homer’s power plant Supervisor, Ballpark public, (Helen) the Organ player, Capital City folks, unknown Moe’s patrons (Except for the pale skinned Fella who we learn a little more about in S2 E11 named Richie Sakai, I’ll talk more about him in that post), Capitol City buildings (The Original Frenchie’s, Phil’s Gas, (Capital City) Duff Brewery, Comeback Motel, News Magazines stand) and various stadiums. There are also multiple neon signs with names of businesses but I’m going to leave those out (seriously don’t mention). Also the first celebrity guest star to play them-self (as seen bellow)

Some other things to think about:

Burns needs help recognizing the Simpsons. He’s done this before and of course he does this in the future, and I won’t make note of it much in the future, but this was pretty odd since he last visited the entire family at their home, which cost him the election to be Governor. Also the card Smithers read said the family members names except Maggie (instead it said “And Expecting”) which is weird because in season 1, they had those cards but it had “Baby: Maggie”. I nitpick but like to give the benefit of the doubt that they made new cards but mistakenly grabbed the old cards and Burns just has a very bad memory (and this will be the last time I bring this up… unless I forget) :p

Homer mentioned that was the first time Marge fell asleep before he has (the idea of me rewatching the previous episodes to prove him wrong makes me sleepy, so I won’t), I just have a hard time believing it. Also Burns buys Homer and himself Beers at the ball game. The total came to $2.50 which is $1.25 for each (I haven’t been to a ball game in years, I can’t imagine them costing that cheap) but again it was the 90’s.

The Winfields are at the Capitol City Game (did Homer give them tickets? They have much better seats than Marge and the kids). This crowd cameo threw me a bit, up until then I was going to mention how Amazing it is that there can be crowds of unique faces/characters (that aren’t at all familiar, and believe me, I looked).

And on a funny note, Bart’s photo of Homer dancing with Princess Kashmir can be seen hung in the Capital City locker room (as if a random player had it). A little Easter Egg, I guess 🙂

Do you remember this episode? What was your favorite moment? Any of the Possibilities that you Really do/don’t like? Do you have “the baby elephant walk” stuck in your head now? Ever go to stadium games (ever been on the Jumbo-tron?)? Do you have a favorite Sport Mascot (Local or not)? Ever been to a big city? Ever tell a long story in a bar? Ever get embarrassed by a zipper incident? Can you imagine a world without mascots or cheerleaders? Sound off in the comments and have a Cheerful journey back to your current space/time 🙂 Thank You, TSTO Addicts Are the Greatest crowds in the world, goodnight! 🙂

  1. Do do do de do do do de do do…… Thanks.

  2. I once won a radio call in contest by knowing this fantastic episode! I finished my call by yelling ” ‘topes WIN! ‘topes WIN!”.

    Good times…and some free pizza!

  3. Anyone else notice they nerfed how much money you get from the Go Kart Races especially the highest tier

  4. How bizzare i just watched this episode, it was on channel 4 (UK) this morning and was thinking the same thing about the penny loafer in the game! I also thought about the 4th street and D sign with Tony Bennett!

  5. I love how flexible Homer was back then. Him spelling out Springfield was awesome.

  6. Let’s see:

Been to stadium games? – Yes I have (including both of Swansea’s stadiums, the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff and Wembley Stadium). And, if I’ve been on the big screen, then I’ve not noticed it.

Been to a big city? – I work in London, so yes I have.

Embarrassing zip incidents? – Nope: I lack the necessary equipment, if you get what I mean. 😉

Can you imagine a world without mascots or cheerleaders? – Nope. I would expand on that, but this is a PG website.

  7. Never been on jumbotron, never been to a baseball game in general honestly (More of a hockey fan). Speaking of hockey though, my favourite mascot would have to be Gnash. Big city? Toronto, biggest in canada Poplation wise, didn’t get to go to a Jays game though.

  8. Josephine Kick@$$

I had to giggle when you mentioned not mentioning Isotopes 😂

NFL Sunday ticket? Isn’t that what Sunday’s were made for? 😊
Semi-season tix to our pro hockey team (we can only go on Saturdays 😕)
Nonono Jumbotron, that’s like a mirror from hell 😂
Mascots are the bomb! What would pro sports be without mascots!?!😍
I like the cheerleaders because it keeps the men from changing the channel every time there’s a split-second between play time😂😂😂😂😂

  9. Biggest City: Vancouver (not sure if it’s bigger than Montreal)
Stadium Games: Expos (for the younger crowd they were the Washington Nationals)
    Sport Mascot: The Phillie Phanatic
Bar Story: yes but I don’t remember (funny how that works out)
    Zipper incident: YES!! Very painful.
Cheerleaders & Mascots: never got the whole thing about them. I just gave you a G now you want an O? Give me back my G first. 🤘😉

  10. These cornball antics may play in the sticks, but this is Capital City.
