First let me start this with a little disclaimer. I know this is a blog about The Simpsons Tapped Out and I also know that this is a blog read by more than just Americans. However, all of the Addicts writers are from America and we feel as though it just wouldn’t be right to let today pass with out something. This post will remain our top post until after the moments of silence, and we will return to our regular TSTO posts shortly after. Thank you for your understanding and respect.
Today is September 11th 2016, the 15th anniversary of the attacks on America, where 2,977 innocent people were killed while just going about their every day lives. Today Bunny, Wookiee, Patric and I would like to take a moment to honor all those innocent lives that were lost in New York City, Shanksville PA, and Washington DC.
I ask you, the readers of this blog, to take a moment today to reflect on that day and honor those who lost their lives.
On a personal note, 9-11 has never been easy for me. As many of you may remember from previous 9-11 posts, we lost my aunt that day. She was in the north tower and on one of the floors that took a direct hit from the first plane that hit. She never saw it coming.
15 years later and I can still tell you every detail of that day, as I’m sure many of you can. Every word spoken. Every feeling, every emotion, every facial expression. It’s all there, etched into my brain. And it’s difficult for me to relive those memories. Even now.
However, I will say visiting the 9-11 Memorial at Ground Zero, while very difficult to do, is incredibly helpful..especially during this time of the year. They did a wonderful job with the 9-11 Memorial. It’s a beautiful place to go and pay your respects. While it’s still hard to go, it helps. It helps with healing. If you’re ever in the area and have the chance to go (it’s completely free to go to the Memorial) I encourage you to visit and pay your respects. I still haven’t been able to go into the museum, but hopefully soon.

We would also like to say a special thank you to all of our brave service men and woman, at home and abroad, who risk their own lives so that America can be safe. We would also like to honor all of the service men and woman from our allies around the world.

Second time in 4 years or so i have replied. There is a reason,9/11 did not have to happen, physically i was wroking in philson in chicago on contract.mshhuuu wait for it 9,11 started in the summer of 1985 then president reagan had ambassy in beruit , i just left service and hired by a contractor called dyelectron aka dynacore. Our job was to go to the 5 regions and simple find the weakness of the the embasies and any other properties department of state had. Back then the us military provide small detales to protect our assets. Those teams which i was a member wrote reports on all our over seas embasies. We wrote about the weaknesses of newyork,dc and yep the same airports like logans.i left and went onto other things and jn time walked away from goverment service.many did when clinton was elected. I did for a different contract…. when 9,11 happened that old memory on those reports hit…..terrorism have been around use years decades before that day..by the way that summer we lost personal friends and work partners from the embasy at san salvidor el salvador…..that is still talked and taught at paris island yes the nation woke up… however how many have served and are not remembered? Last year i finally went to new york city took that long…. 2 big holes which did not have to happen…..today as a nation we will choise our path for a future. Do we cower?point fingers yet how many have so and would fight stand tall for our nation first.. oh and yes i am a vet until tese last 8 years i rarely talked of what came first before 9,11…..oh and yep i do simpsons for what it is worth it relasing it is after all a game.not real life thanks rick j
In Australia here we woke to the news of America’s tragedy. The towers had not yet collapsed. Then the world changed in an instant. My now adult daughters were young then; But I kept them home from school for the day. Wondering what was to come, & what was to become of humanity.
The 15th anniversary of this tragedy is a time for reflection & Thanks to those who lost all. The brave service people; The innocent workers & bystanders. From far away I Thank You greatly!
As an aside (& in hopefulness) for Alissa & the other lady. My youngest daughter was in ICU neonatal care back in 1991. Not expected to live. Heart problems & immature lungs. Such a scrawny little chicken 3 months early. Well she gave birth to my granddaughter Norah by CS on 17th April this year. Mum & Bubs are just fine. Dad still over the moon! All’s well that ends well!
I was a senior in high school. It was first period and our teacher refused to disrupt our lesson to put on the tv. Even after the second plane hit and people were running through the halls yelling about what was happening (again, middle of first period. Halls usually empty) she still was reluctant to put the tv on. She finally did. No classroom shut them off the rest of the day. I live 40 miles outside Chicago and we constantly heard rumors the Sears Tower was one of the next targets.
It really is tough to remember 9/11…I was a sophomore in college close to Boston and it was my first day of chemistry lab (that’s y I also remember it was on a Tuesday)…our professor let us out early and on our way back to the dorms, a classmate told us that a plane had been highjacked…we were all like what? but she herself wasn’t sure about what was happening, she was just very obviously upset…so I continued walking with my roommate and remember telling her that if a plane was high jacked y not just listen to the highjacket, do what they want and get the plane to safety…we had no idea until we got to our dorm and realized this was no regular high jack. the 2nd plane had already crashed and news were coming in that a 3rd one had hit the Pentagon…it was horrible, my parents and siblings had been calling me (we live in Los Angeles) and we scared cuz I hadnt picked up…I called them and told them I was ok, Boston is 4hrs away from ny…we watched the news, I still remember the footage of the people jumping to their deaths, the horror and uncertainty of not knowing who was next…then the towers collapsed, and I swear none of us spoke…we just stared in disbelief…I still remember the fear, the sadness, and the anger…15 years later, it doesn’t change…
I remember I was home from school when this happened kept watching them repeat the same footage loop over and over and being shocked about what happened
I would like to vist the memorial site but being an Australian I can’t afford to make the trip
You know, reading all the comments here brought back another associated memory, this one a good one. It was the following year, and I was a music teacher at a Catholic school, and on playground duty that day. The church bells began to toll at the exact time the first plane hit. I watched as every child on that playground stopped what they were doing, grabbed the playground balls to stop them bouncing, and took a knee. They stayed there until the bells stopped tolling. No teacher told them to do this. It was a touching thing to see. I know as time passes the significance of such events is lost on subsequent generations. I don’t know whether it’s better for them to forget, but I know these kids comprehended it.
That must have been an amazing site to see…
