In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where did THAT Come From?
By Hawking’s chair and wowza! The 2016 TSTO SciFi Event is in full swing. Robots, androids, and drones… oh my! Laughing to myself since I meant tfor that to be ala Dorothy and Oz and instead I had a George Takei moment. Anyhooo. this event has had a ton of sciencey futuristic stuff to figure out where to put in our games. A lot of this new stuff might have you wondering just where the heck it all comes from. Well no fears inter-quantum dimensional guys and gals, that’s where this walking carpet gets to reminisce about his favorite cartoon for all of you. For this dimension of origin stories, we’ll be looking at a premium offering in Act II, the Lady Bot. This female-ish android was offered for eith 100 donuts with the Future-Proofed Home or 200 if you didn’t have Frink. This obviously let’s you know she’s connected to everyone’s favorite Jerry Lewis voiced scientist and we head to “Love Is in the N2-O2-Ar-CO2-Ne-He-CH4” (S27:E13) to find her.
A Valentine’s Day episode that all starts with the Simpson couch moving away so that Lawrence of Arabia can be lampooned. Mr. Burns throws a Sweetheart dance although it’s not what he imagined really. Everybody seems to be having a good time except for one Professor John Nerdelbaum Frink, Jr. who apparently is a consultant at the plant that sometimes they listen to and sometimes they don’t. People have died. Anyhoo… the point is that Frink is alone and his nerd charm is enough to drive the opposite sex to sit alone in the reactor core rather than talk to him.
Homer finds Frink hungover under a console the next day as he’s handing out CVS (Cheap Valentine’s Surplus) goodies to all his coworkers including the suspicious Iranian one.
I don’t blame Frink for being bummed after VD, he’s right that even Stephen Hawking has a girl, and surprisingly Homer is right to correct that Hawking has had at least two. Homer points out that “relationships are just trial and error” which prompts Frink to realize they are just a product of scientific methods. He plans to “use science to uncover the secrets to women.” I guess some of this science includes making a robot since I suspect this is our first sighting of Love Bot.
Frink plans to solve something with science even if it never figured out “cold fusion, quasars, the interior of black holes, or what preceded the Big Bang.” It’s all chemistry according to Homer and that’s science too. I just think it’s great that Frink is doing his research at the Springfield Heights Institute of Technology.
Frink’s attempts don’t start off great though. Even the android he programmed to say nothing but yes says she doesn’t dig him. After a quick flash, what looks like a Star Trekky beam of light, the Lady Bot is revealed. She returns in the same scene to knock Frink out of one of his characteristic hoyvin rambles.
I don’t want to ruin an episode centered on Frink that I actually think is fairly funny. If you want a whole recap of this episode, you can find one here. Suffice to say that Frink uses his higher tech to become a ladies man. His voice changer that is “an amalgam of great voices from Clark Gable to Walter Cronkite to Rush Limbaugh (a natural echo chamber)” is enough to turn the LadyBot on.
Lots of goodness to watch and the very end features LadyBot again as Frink uses the telescope at the Springfield Planetarium (a Simpsons tribute to the Griffith Observatory which is awesome!) Frink says his true love is intellectual conquest but we know his android lady friend doesn’t hurt either. The real question is why Frink built a mother.
So there you go friends… the origin of Lady-Bot. What do you think of her addition in this event. Did you splurge on her? Think she dreams of electric sheep? Sound off in the comments and happy tapping friends!
TTFN… Wookiee out!
Was the Springfield Planetarium ever released as a building? They should, it looks awesome.
Not that I can recall
I would rEAlly to have it. It will look very nice next to the Springfield Observatory 🌕🌖🌗🌘🌑🌒🌔🌚
Can someone explain why the EA forums are not working? That is if anyone on here use the EA forums. But I get a msg like this “Oooops.. You don’t have sufficient privileges to access this category”
I was just about ask this. I got the same message. 🙁 I was going to look for design inspiration tonight. Booo
I can’t access it either.
Me too.
Same thing …no idea
She appears to be modelled after Ex Machina?
Might be nice to have a Skin skin for her (meaning: with yellow skin, as seen from the picture).
Kind of hoped she had a joint visual (“Love Slap”) task with Frink.
So why, oh why did EA have her carry a cat around? Is that EA’s go to visual task. “We have a character named The Collider, what should his visual task be?” “GIVE HIM A CAT”, “The Mafia Don needs a visual task” “GIVE HIM A CAT!”, “We have a LadyBot” “WHAT PART OF CAT DIDN’T YOU UNDERSTAND!?” *while sitting on a giant office chair, stroking some animal* 😹
Maybe Blofeld is behind it…
Hmm that bald guy loves cat. But my heart doesn’t feel good seeing ladybot handling the cat. Bald guy would not have done it!
(Sitting with my cat Nermal on my lap)
That’s a good call 😸
Darn! I missed getting her & I surely would have if I’d realized she had a CAT! Probably a lot of crazy cat persons play TSTO, Totbox. I think the cat items are good sellers. 😉
Good ol’ Springfield Heights, Institute of Technology. One of the more subtle jokes in the show. Great use of the acronym
Oh. Lol. That is funny.
In Tilburg (Holland) was a Catholic Technical school, which was upgraded to university, so they had to rename it. The first proposal was “Katholiekm Universiteit Tilburg”. This was retracted because the acronym would be XXX-rated.
If you translate the name into English it even gets worse for them: “Catholic University (of) Netherlands Tilburg”
Here in Seattle, we had the South Lake Union Trolley. 🙂 Someone makes shirts that says “Ride the S.L.U.T”. The city finally changed the name, calling it a streetcar instead of a trolley now.
How about POS software for retailers? That is really a piece of wastage software.
