Halloween 2016 101: Act 1 Math

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Seeing a LOT of questions/concerns in the comments about whether or not you’ll be able to earn enough film (ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg) each day to keep up with the calendar and unlike all of the prizes.

So let’s calm those worries and quickly breakdown the math and how to succeed in getting everything….

spacemarshmallow_emulate_homer_active_in_image_13

First…let’s remember the Ralph way of tapping.  Don’t over think it.  Just have fun and tappa, tap, tap. 🙂

There are several ways to earn film during Act 1.  I’m just going to cover the bare minimum freemium ways that apply to everyone.  If you have premium characters/buildings that earn currency..well you’ll just be WAY ahead of the game 🙂

So according to the Calendar you’ll need 3,408 ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg /day to earn all of the prizes.  Seems like a daunting task, huh?

Let’s break down how simple it really is…

Here are the items we have a firm daily control over…

Tapping Feral Monsters

feralbeast01_tap_image_12

So these guys have max of 40 in your town at once, with a bank of 40.  (so 80 max)  The files indicate that the spawn rate is every 20 minutes…now here’s what’s a little more confusing, the number that spawn every 20 minutes.

It appears to me, based on how i’m interpreting things that it’s NOT 1 every 20 minutes (and that’s based just on what i see in my game..these things are everywhere!).  It looks like it’s a rate of 4/20 minutes that spawn. That’s how i’m interpreting what I see in the files…I could be wrong, but that’s how it looks to me.

For safety sake I’m going to assume you can tap 120 of these/day.  Which is less than i’ve managed to tap today, but I’m being safe here.

Each Feral Monster pays out 6 ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg when tapped (they also drop crafting currency, but that’s on a random basis..and not always.  And we’ll cover that in the crafting post).  So 6ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg x120 monsters is… 720/day (at least) from tapping feral monsters.

Neighbor Actions

Neighbor Icon

You’re allowed 9o total neighbor actions/day (1 tap=1 action…and we’ve got a neighbor actions covered on this post.  Towards the bottom).  Each tap yields       5 ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg.

So 5ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg x 90 actions= 450ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg/day

indicator_thoh2016_moviecamera

Giant Monsters

ico_battlehub_monster02

The Super Monsters spawn at a rate of 2/4hrs, and will continually spawn at that rate (even if you haven’t cleared them yet) until you have 10 in your town at once. (in otherwords if you clear them every 4hrs, you’ll always have 2 Giant Monsters waiting for you when they’re cleared).

For now, you earn 150ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg/Giant Monster you defeat.  This equates to 300ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg/4hrs.  In a 24hr period you’ll spawn 12 monsters (and in this case you count 12/day…since they can accumulate.  So you don’t lose time for sleep..).

So 150ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg x 12 monsters/day= 1,800ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg/day.

Trick-Or-Treating

Milhouse Trick or Treat      bart_go_trick_or_treating

This is one thing that will increase as time goes on and you earn more MAG points. (I know a bunch of you are confused no MAG points, I’ll have a full post on it I promise)  Initially you can only send Bart Trick-or-Treating (Squeaky Voiced Teen too, if you have him).  But if you craft 1 item that earns MAG points, you’ll unlock Milhouse too.  So we’re going to figure you’ve got at least Bart and Milhouse to trick-or-treat.  With the understanding that you’ll unlock more characters to trick-or-treat as you progress in Act 1…

So Bart & Milhouse will earn 30 ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg each every 4hrs from Trick or Treating.  Let’s assume you do this at least 4 times/day.

30ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg x 4= 120ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg x 2 (for Bart and Milhouse)= 240 ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg/day via Trick or Treating just from Bart and Milhouse.

So right now we’re at 3,210 ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg/day…just from the minimal items in this event. And with things you can control.

But the Calendar says you need to earn 3,408 ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg/day to stay on track and earn all of the prizes.  So how do you make up the remaining 200 ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg?

There are a few ways….

Questline…

You’ll earn 400 ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg from the questline (this is just from Completed Task rewards, I’m not including Homer fighting the Giant Monster or Bart Trick or Treating, that’s part of the questline because they’re covered above)

So 400 ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg/13ish days that Act 1 lasts is about 30ish ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg/day on average from the questline…

Daily Challenges

You will occasionally receive a daily challenge that will earn you more ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg.  From what I’ve seen it’s a reward of 350ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg.
Of course the total amount for act 1 will vary for each player, based on how many you get throughout act 1

Friend Actions in YOUR Town..

When your friends tap on cameras on your town you can clear those spots to earn 1 ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg/ tap.  Let’s assume you earn 20ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg/day from this.

MAG Prizes

Several of the MAG prizes award ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg.  (350 ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg each time, for a total of 1,750 f0r Act 1).

This will be MORE than enough to push you over the top with ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg.

As you can see there are PLENTY of opportunities to earn MORE than enough ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg throughout Act 1 to unlock all the prizes, at a bare minimum play.

And of course there are a large chunk of you who will be able to earn more ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg through various other ways.  Here are some other ways you can earn ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg

-Character tasks at MAG.  Count Burns, Booberella, Suzanne the Witch and the Space Mutant (all characters from previous THOH Events) all have the ability to earn 50 ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg/4hrs with a task at MAG.  This could equate to an additional 800ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg/day  (if you have all 4 and clear it 4 times a day).

-Premium characters Trick-or-Treating.  Squeaky Voiced Teen unlocks at the Rich House for Trick-or-Treating along with Bart initially.  He can earn an extra 50ico_cur_thoh2016_filmstrip_lg/4hrs for Trick-or-Treating.  That’s an additional 200/day (clear/resetting it 4 times/day) if you have him.

-Unlocking more characters for Trick-or-Treating via MAG points.  Several other characters will unlock with more MAG points as you progress through Act 1.

So the bottom-line relax.  This one really is easy.  And you should have no problem unlocking everything with steady game play… 🙂

Remember…have some fun!  It’s a game, it’s made to be fun! 🙂

  1. King of the Castle

Are others experiencing the problem where the feral monsters just stay in one place and thus are almost impossible to find?

The only way I can find them is to go into edit mode and make everything but characters transparent and the slowly, slowly scroll through my town to spot a tiny movement that isn’t a leaf since even in areas that have no open space the feral monster may be hidden amongst the buildings.

    • They swarm around the MAG building…just make sure that building has some space around it and it should be fine. I like that they ask swarm there…I don’t ever have to go chasing them around town, which is good, because they’re fast!

Here’s an example with a small-ish swarm (since I had already collected the big overnight swarm not too long ago):

      https://imgur.com/gallery/MJNxO

  2. Question on the Obols… is it just me or is it taking FOREVER to collect these things? 2 for every trick or treater, a few on the ferral rats, a few from tapping friends buildings? I am trying to earn the catacombs for 250 obols since late late week… and this morning I swore I had around 120… now about 6 or 7 hours later, I have 221 Obols (??), only 29 away. I did purchase the Crazy Iguana Lady today, but I thought she gave MAG points only.. not Obols? Did she come with Obols too?

  3. I must be doing something right and I’m not even trying, because I’m about ready to obtain Burn’s Castle within another day …. the only reason I would slow down personally? It’s because I am not interested in the NPC ( non-player character ) as the last prize for Act One (epic fail EA)!

  4. The math on the friend taps isn’t right says you get 5 film for 90 taps but only counts 89 taps for total of 445. I just did all 90 taps only earned 445. If you watch last tap doesn’t give you film.

    • You may have had a carryover…hit something that didn’t give you a shot. It’s 30 x 3 Neighbors…or 90 individual cameras.

      • This has been a bug for quite a long time seems only on some devices it’s the last tap if you watch the counter will even say you will get for the next 1 tap but even if you tap very carefully the last tap will not give event currency. My one tablet does it the other does not. I have contacted EA in the past and they told me it’s the device and there’s nothing they can do

  5. Have you done the math for obol? My guestimate is that you’ll need at least 150 obol a day to be able to upgrade the assembly yard fully and get all the large-ticket items. Maybe more if you take the mag point requirements into account. Right now I’m making about 50-60 obol a day, and that’s with 4 logins daily, 5 trick-or-treaters and max friend visits. Even with the occasional bonus obol from the prize track, daily challenges and others there is no way to get enough obol unless the rate at which you can gain them is going to increase dramatically in the short term. Am I missing something?

    • They will become EAsier to get, as the update progresses…

      • Unlike earning more event currency for each act, which will gradually become easier, obol earnings will not increase significantly unless the drop rate for obol increases dramatically or if the TOT obol reward increases. In the latest update, the obol prizes in the prize track for act 1 remained 10, but they were increased from 20 to 250 for act 2, and from 30 to 450 for act 3. EA would not do that unless they feel that the current way of earning obol is too slow. Even with the new prizes, I still highly doubt you will be able to scrounge enough obol to get all the prizes. You need 5200 obol to get the assembly yard to level 15 and another 1000 for the shipwreck. The event lasts 40 or so days. As far as I can tell, you’ll get 50 obol when unlocking each TOT-job, which comes out to 300 for six unlocked characters. Assuming that you can also get the 1420 obol from the prize track, you’ll still need to collect at least 4500, or about 113 a day. If you have all 8 TOT-jobs unlocked and you tap four times a day you’ll make 64. Leaves 49. That means that you’ll have to collect a lot from random drops on the monsters. The drop rate is probably around 1 in 10 monsters tapped at the moment. Which yields about 16 a day if you tap 40 monsters four times a day. Leaves 33 a day, or 1320 total. You’ll be able to get daily challenges that pay out 30 obol for act 1, 60 for act 2 or 120 for act 3. However, the chance that you’ll get enough daily challenges to collect the required 1320 remaining obol is very small (there are four prizes for challenges: event currency, obol and 1 or 3 donuts); statistically you can expect to get around 600 obol from challenges during the event. So even if everything goes as it’s supposed to you’ll end up about 700 obol short. Unless the drop rate from tapping monsters is or gets better, in which case you’ll be able to do it…barely. So as far as regular currency, and perhaps also mag points go, this event is on track. In my opninion, the crafting/obol track is too hard.

        • To quote Allisa………

Can I Unlock All of the MAG Items Without Spending Donuts for Premium Items?

Several of you were asking this question in the comments…and I’m happy to say yes you can. TSTO is a game, unlike some other freemium games, where you can earn/win everything available during an event with diligent frequent tapping.
As I mentioned above you’ll need 6,410 ico_cur_thoh2016_magpoints_lg to earn all of the prizes offered in the MAG Prize track. From prizes alone, acts 1 through 3, you’ll earn over 4,700 ico_cur_thoh2016_magpoints_lg as long as you unlock all of the prizes for each act. You’ll then need to earn an additional 1,700 ico_cur_thoh2016_magpoints_lg. You can easily achieve this by crafting.
It won’t be easy, but you absolutely can earn enough ico_cur_thoh2016_magpoints_lg to unlock all of the prizes without spending donuts on premium items.

          • That’s the mag track, not the crafting track. You’re talking mag points, not obol and I already said that the mag track is doable. But I guess we’ll see how it goes. I suspect EA is looking into this, or already has, since the obol prizes for act 2 and 3 were increased from 20 to 250 and 30 to 450 respectively.

  6. I have only 3 trick or treaters and have plenty of more kids who can trick or treat why aren’t anymore of them trick or treating? And just only my 3?

  7. Is there a central place where the feral beasts tend to gather?

  8. I’m not sure if that wasn’t disscussed before, but i’m pretty sure EA doesn’t know what “medieval” means- all those “medieval” things are actualy victorian/neo-gothic

    • LOL…don’t get me started on historical inaccuracies in the game. I’m still trying to recover from their version of Quantum Physics.

  9. …….ps. Where’s Kevin Bacon to help me fight these critters? He kicks ass at it😂…..💜X

  10. I accidentally sent two characters to fight one monster (purple/yellow one). I moticed the payout went from 150 to 210. Realising that this is intentional in the game, I have since tried to replicate it for the other monsters( blue/yellow) but the game won’t allow me to do so. Can anyone please clarify this aspect of the gameplay? Is it ad-hoc when one can send up to 3 SPs to fight? Is it only the purple/yellow ones too. Anyone tried it & would like to share. Much appreciated…..🤔🤔🤔…..💜X

  11. I can still only do 2 monsters at a time even though the building says I have 4 available monsters. I can only send one person at a time to fight as well 🙁 My pimply face teenage is also only getting 40 films and just 2 oolongs or w/e they are called. Any word on EA acknowledging this problem? thanks

  12. Has there been a Calendar posted yet? I can’t seem to find it.

  13. Do we have a list of which characters earn event currency? I stumbled on Suzanne the Witch and Dracula Burns (the name escapes me) but was curious if there were more? Thanks

  14. maohlaharl1349
    please add, daily player

  15. I ve just found that space mutant have a 4h job that pays 50 event currency.
Are there others characters that can earn event currency?

  16. Is it worth the 40 to unlock the cobblestone road?

  17. how do I earn MAG points?

  18. Hooray, they restored the level up requirement back to 1 million(previously it was 10 million). Hope everyone is having a blast with this Hallowe’en update, i know i am. Lol

  19. Thanks for doing the Math, Alissa! I can always count on you! 🙂

Looks like I’m going to be okay on film for this Act!

  20. how do I collect MAG points?

  21. So far I’m not finding it too bad even for a very busy teacher. After 2 full days, I’m already ahead of the calendar and that’s with only being able to tap 3 times daily on average. Got a day off tomorrow (strategically placed disaggregated teacher training day- useful after open evening tonight) so will be tapping as much as possible this weekend in between sleeping, socialising and marking the 60 books I took home with me.

  22. This is probably stupid, but how do you get the adults to gang up on monsters? It isn’t letting me send more than one at a time to fight.

    • I’m wanting to know the same

      • Different monsters let you attack with the bonus points/people
Look for the one that’s orangish and purplish with lots if teeth and breathes fire.

    • VKIGUS- Not stupid at all. I’m struggling to understand this too. I ‘accidentally’ did it for a purple/yellow monster but now can’t replicate it. Came here for clarification or ‘how to’ help. Good old EA. Put a shiny penny/dime on the ground for us to pick up, only for us to discover in doing so that it has been firmly glued down😂😂😂…..💜X

  23. Thank you so much for explaining the giant monsters. I thought my game was glitching because I’d start the day with 4 and then would only be able to fight 2 from then on. Now I understand why!

    • Not sure I get that, if they spawn 2 every 4 hrs and can have up to 10 why do I only get 2 for an 8+ hr break from the game?

      • Somethings glitched out in your game you should have 4 in that span unless you’re just under 8hrs. Send battles for the 2 and check the timer that appears. If the timer shows that it’s almost fully counted down then it’s just under 8hrs

  24. I wrote the wrong colors down. I have blue and yellow monsters. When do you get the other monsters? I keep getting the same ones

  25. I am only getting the green and purple monsters. When do you get the other ones?

    • I have two kinds…blue and yellow ones, which can only be fought by one person, and purple and orange/yellow ones, which can have a second fighter for an extra 60 film strips. (Unfortunately, without the skin for crazy cat lady, I haven’t had enough fighters to have all of the monsters being fought at once, and I’m not sure I’ve made the right decisions about who to send to do what to get me the best yield. But I’m sure I’ll get that figured out soon…or someone else here will figure out the best strategy and I’ll enjoy the fruits of their labor, lol!)

  26. Have a question about MAG points and the craftable items, and I’m sorry if you have answered it already. Some of the items that I already have from past THoH events (and haven’t crafted yet in this one) do not say they award MAG points, but they do say how they can contribute to your tree-hugging or vanity rating. So my question is: do the items I already have award any MAG points?

  27. Still having the issue but at least I was able to find a link here that let me submit an email bug report to EA.

  28. So, you’re saying I shouldn’t flip out, lose my mind or panic?!? Hahaha. Got it.

How about Bigger Super Monsters?.. The Beetlejuice-esque things that can be fought with more than one character & are uglier than the standard ones. I’m guessing they’re random. Earlier I hypothesized that these creatures appeared as a player reaches higher MAG levels, but now that seems wrong. I have only gotten one so far & it allowed me to fill 2 character boxes for fighting.
Only asking for a friend…who looks a lot like me. Haha.

Anyway, thanks again for an enlightening post. This site is truly Making Halloween Grape (candy) Again!.. & I love it!

  29. Please bear with me for asking this again but has anyone experienced an issue where there are no feral monsters appearing in their town??

They were showing up fine until yesterday 10/5 at 9 am eastern us time.
I have deleted game, rebooted phone, and reinstalled game twice. I tried visiting neighbors, where I could see theirs, and returning back to my town and none show up.

The help button in the game takes me to a page saying “we are unable to connect you with the support channel you requested” and has links to the forum only. Couldn’t even find one post mentioning the feral monsters there.

Please lend a hand. Thanks guys.

    • Personally I’m not seeing it, could be something specific with your game.

    • I havent seen any since about the time you mentioned, and I keep getting notifications that my town is full of them, but still there are none to tap.

      • They were all in my house farm. Had to grey out the houses and then I could see them trapped. Once I tapped a couple they started showing up.
The recent patches did something that started them running up to the MAG office like normal when my town was full.

    • Do you have any sort of farm in your Springfield? I have a batch of blue houses and I’m finding the ferals “stuck” there and even when I hide the houses, they are very hard to see because they are black. I can only find them when they breath fire.

      • Yes I do. You’re totally correct. When I grey out the houses then I can hunt the buggers down. Although the cloud effects and leaves make it extremely difficult to see the regular ones. The leaves look like fire sometimes and the clouds cover up their bodies. At least the flying rats flap their wings.

Try looking around the garages of the blue houses. That’s the easiest way for me to find them. I can usually see the body there.

  30. I have been waiting for the Thoh to start. I have erected the building and have spewing wolves since last night, but am unable to tap them and also unable to find anything else to initiate the start of the game…
