Should I Spend Donuts On Pirate Kang or Ancient Burial Ground (& Zombie)

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

It’s Halloween in our pocket-size Springfields!  Yes that magical time of the year when our towns turn dark, our water becomes mucky, there are monsters everywhere to battle and (as with all events) there are LOADS of items from Halloweens past to spend those sprinkles on!

Of course with that limited-time label it can be tempting to buy everything that looks as awesome as this because it’ll be gone soon.  But don’t sweat it!  That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth those donuts and what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add Pirate Kang or the Ancient Indian Burial Ground (+Shuffling Zombie) to your Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding these throwbacks to your Springfield…

Character: Pirate Kang Skin (Comes with Kang if you don’t already have him)
Cost:  40 donuts
Previous Posts: Pirate Kang (Not a SIB, as it was free last Halloween)
My Opinion On Him Now: 40 Donuts is a great price for this hilarious outfit and character.  This is one of my FAVORITE costumes in the game.  His animations are hilarious.  Well worth the 40 donuts if you missed out on this last Hallowen…oh and Kang (and the costume) both pay at premium rates!

Character: Shuffling Zombie (NPC)
Building: Ancient Indian Burial Ground
Cost:  60 Donuts
Earns: $300, 30xp/12hrs
Previous Posts: Indian Burial Ground, SIB
My Opinion On It Now: I own both, as they were both prizes in 2013.  And my honest opinion is they’re both not worth spending donuts on.  Save your donuts, IMO.

And there you have it my friends, the breakdown on the two (well technically 3) latest returning premium items to hit our stores.

What are your thoughts on Pirate Kang or the Burial Ground + Zombie?  Do you own any of them already?  Will you be purchasing them this year?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. If you like Kang it’s so worth it. I got it free last year and the pirate costume is better than just plain Kang, but I have never been a huge fan.

Basically if you like Kang you’ll love this, if you aren’t a fan skip it.

  2. I really hope Bad Dream House comes back this year.

And I want Zombie Shakespeare, dang it!

  3. Don’t see the point of buying Pirate Kang when Kang is already premium. Would’ve got the zombie if he were a full character but not as a NPC. Thanks for the heads up!

    • The point is the great costume and hilarious animations. I’ve been using Pirat Kang nonstop for almost a full year now, and he still makes me laugh.

    .Doesn’t work.
    Meh.

  5. Had to…its a ZOMBIE npc! !! 😀

  6. I give thanks for giving us more chances to rake in event currency with the flying feral monsters, but I find it frustrating that EA decided to mess with us by adding random background noise when we’re playing the Where’s Maggie game. I couldn’t find Maggie twice now cuz the distracting noise overpowered Maggie’s rattle noise. That’s pretty much losing out on two donuts. I don’t get why EA would troll us like that. It’s a 16hr wait for the game to reset too so it’s frustrating. >:(

  7. I did a quest once where all the women had to do something (can’t remember what though…) and both Kodos and Kang were eligible, so they’re both in the “women” group in the game (as well as in the “alien” group).

  8. For once, I don’t agree at all. I find Pirate Kang creepy and avoid using him. Since he already earns premium without the skin, there is no added value, either.
On the other hand, the animation when tapping Zombies is great – totally worth paying for, if I didn’t have them already. I still tap them every chance I get.

  9. I bought the burial grounds but I can’t find the zombie. I don’t know that I got him. Any ideas?

  10. Guess I unlocked all that stuff in previous years. I just want my Booberella. I didn’t pick her up the last couple years and now I’m regretting it.

  11. I placed the Burial Grounds and it seems to have a 2% bonus xp/$, can anyone confirm this?? The SIB post doesn’t mention anything, maybe is for the one they’re offering this time…

    • I agree. Click your star bar and learn % XP increase. The BG base rate earns 60 XP in 24 hours.
I tried QE mart to harvest donuts but each additional sold the return rate keeps dropping.
Book Mobile is a good crop. Each 6 sold returns purchase of one.
Wonderful site for researching TSTO particulars!

      • The return *amount* droits as you sell back the Kwik-E-Marts, but the *rate* stays the same…it’s always a quarter of what you paid for it, what you’re forgetting to account for is that, as you buy the Kwik-E-Marts in the first place, the price for each of them continues to climb, until it plateaus at $14,400. So, when you sell back the first one, which, say, cost $14,400 to purchase, you’re gonna get more cash back than when you sell back, say, the 20th one, which may have only cost you $720 to purchase (not sure of the exact numbers for each of the steps of the increasing prices, so $720 was just a number I made up for illustrative purposes).

        Make sense?

    • I got the 2% bonus too~

(sorry for posting twice, meant to reply here)

  12. I agree with Alissa in recommending getting the Pirate Kang skin!

  13. Is there a Where did that come from ? For the burial ground? Or the Sepulcher of evil? If not can someone tell me what episodes?

  14. I’m having too much fun watching Kang stay out of Springfield altogether. If you can get him on the upper right edge of town and start a 16-hour chortle, he’ll jump out of town onto the dark green out-of-bounds region — and keep on hopping back! You can force him out of sight altogether with multiple chortles, though you can retrieve him using the “find character” function at City Hall.

  15. Has anyone else noticed that if you put all 8 fences into storage, the description on the crafting page changes from”All MAG points achieved for this item” to “First 8 award 20 MAG points”? My question is will I get extra MAG points for crafting more than 8 fences if I put them into storage?

  16. I like seeing the zombies in neighbours towns and have often coveted them; however, even with me being in Halloween-mode, I am going to pass on the Zombie/BurialGround package.

Personally I think EA are missing a trick – when releasing previous Halloween content, that was once free, they should incentivise people to buy it with donuts by making it create event-currently during the current event. If the Burial Ground delivered 40/50 Obols a day, or circa 100/200 films, I’d have bought it and felt like I was getting some added value. However, as it stands, I just feel like I am getting charged for something that was once free. 🎃

    • Stupid Flanders: “Thou shall not covet thy neighbor’s zombies!”

    • If EA made those items produce event currency, the entire event would have to be reworked to account for that extra currency. EA has enough challenges making events happen.

      • How so? Surely only those who bought premium items would benefit and all that would happen is that they would gain extra event current, therefore finishing the act early than those who did not buy the item. EA have already adjusted for those people who finish an Act early by giving them the chance to collect currency in return for donuts.

        • It would also mean that the people that got the items free last year would be earning currency. The event is not planned /programmed for reason of early finishers get bonuts.

          • I hear what you’re saying Matthew but it isn’t a big job to add a piece of code which denotes the original item (free) from the new one (premium). This would allow the software to treat the paid for item as different from the original.

Yes, it is a small bit of work but STO is a product and my point was that if EA want to incentivise people to spend money on product that were once free, making them pay out event currency would be an ideal incentive. Just my two cents 🎃

            • No, it is not a coding or programming issue. It’s event design and event philosophy.
EA doesn’t just make up numbers for event currency to complete tasks and the event. The game is metered for reasons.
Let’s suppose (yes I am making this up) that the event is designed to allow tappers that are 10% below the average tapper to finish on the last day. That means anytime event currency is added or subtracted during the design process, it changes the amount that will be needed to finish the event.
So by allowing last year’s items to generate currency and to have the “incentive” to buy last year’s items (to generate currency) it really changes nothing.

  17. maybe this is a bad sign, but I always thought the animation of the zombie when you tap him was pretty neat… No argument that he’s not as great as pirate Kang, but still worth the bonuts.

  18. Had never clicked the zombie in any of my neighbor’s towns before. Got him for the burial grounds, TOTALLY worth it for his animations.

  19. Bought the zombie ground by accident! Frutrsating.

  20. I’ve been wanting the zombie but not the burial ground. I’m guessing they won’t be offering them separately for this event. 🙁

    • This is going to happen alot this event 🙁 I wanted the zombie to complete an old set but because I already have the burial ground I can’t buy the zombie separately. So far not many people are affected by these bundles, but as the event continues and more and more people will start to miss out on desired items as a punishment for having one of the items already, the complaints will turn into a roar!!

      • That is just goofy on EA’s half, think of all the extra money they could have picked up. EA you make me sad.

  21. I got Pirate Kang last year, and ever since he’s been a pirate in my town!

  22. “My Opinion On Her…” “…His animations are…”

Hah! So I’m not the only person who gets confused by Rigellian’s gender issues! 🙂
