Halloween Event 2016 101: Crafting

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Ah the long awaited, much requested, Crafting post….

Love it or hate it, EA has proven over the last couple of years that crafting is here to stay.  While the prizes themselves are pretty self explanatory, collect this to earn these prizes, crafting is a whole other “animal”.  Crafting requires some self direction.  You decide what you want and collect the items to craft accordingly.  Sometimes this is successful and sometimes it’s not. And, as with all things, for some events crafting is easier than others.

Now I know some of you still have questions about what to craft, if you should craft or Level Up, what happens in future Acts…so, as we’ve done in the past, we’re here to break it all down for you.  So let’s take a look at the basics of Crafting for the entire event.

2016-10-04-16-18-59

As always we’ll start with the basics…

When Does Crafting Start?

Crafting unlocks after you’ve completed Mad Monsters: Furry Road Pt. 5At this point you’ll get a quest called Monster Candy, started by Bart.  This will unlock the..

medievalrichhouse_menuMedieval Rich House- Free, 6×11 in size

This house unlocks the ability for Kids to Trick or Treat for Obols (the crafting currency) and Film Strips

Once you’ve completed Monster Candy you’ll unlock a quest started by Lisa called How Much is that Warewolf in the Window, this will unlock the..

medievalconstyard_menuMedieval Construction Yard- Free, 8×9 in size

The Construction Yard is what triggers crafting to unlock.

How Do I Access the Crafting Menu?

Just like every other event the Crafting Menu is accessible via the Event Hub.

ico_mhud_thoh2016_event

The purple monster like trophy is your event hub.  Click on it and you’ll access your event hub for this event.

From there you want to find the crafting Icon, third one down on the left, that looks like this:

ico_mhub_thoh2016_crafting

Tap on it and that’ll bring up your Crafting Menu (Also known as the Construction Yard):

2016-10-05-15-47-49

You can also access your Crafting Menu (the quick way) by tapping on your Construction Yard in Springfield…

medievalconstyard_menu

When Does Crafting End?

Crafting is avaialble for the ENTIRE event.  You read that right…the ENTIRE event.  So you have until November 15th to craft everything!

Plenty of time…so take your time.

What Is the Crafting Currency?

So it’s 1 crafting currency for the ENTIRE Event.

The crafting currency for the event is Obols:

ico_cur_thoh2016_funeralcoins_lg

How Do I Earn Crafting Currency?

So as many of you have pointed out…Obols are not exactly plentiful in this event.  But keep in mind Crafting is for the ENTIRE event…so there’s no rush to craft or level up.  Build up as many Obols as you can and then craft/level up at your pace.

Are are the ways you can earn Obols in this event:

-Randomly appear when tapping Feral Monsters, along with Event Currency.
-Trick-or-Treating Tasks at the Rich House for the Kids, along with Event Currency
-Prize Tracks in the Acts
-MAG Prize Tracks

It’ll be a grind for this event…but keep at it they’ll continually build up.

What’s the Deal With the Crafting Levels?  What do They Do?  And Should I Level Up or Craft?!

2016-10-05-15-47-49

So with this update, similar to the Casino and Sci-Fi update, there are Levels for crafting.  Unlocking each level will unlock a new item to Craft.

Leveling up will cost you Obols ico_cur_thoh2016_funeralcoins_lg.  Now here’s an aspect I’m really happy they continue from Sci-Fi…you do NOT have to choose between Leveling up and Crafting.  The Obols you spend to Craft items will count towards the Obols needed to Level up! (Take note…many of you didn’t realize this during the Sci-Fi Event and therefore didn’t use your crafting currency efficiently)

What does this mean?  Well basically if it costs 600 ico_cur_thoh2016_funeralcoins_lg to move up to the next level, and you want to craft Iron Walls (which cost 20 ico_cur_thoh2016_funeralcoins_lg each)..you don’t have to decide between Leveling up and Crafting.  Simply craft the Iron Walls and 20 ico_cur_thoh2016_funeralcoins_lg will be deducted from the 600 ico_cur_thoh2016_funeralcoins_lg required to Level Up.

So you DO NOT have to decide between Leveling Up and Crafting, because you’ll Level Up WHILE you Craft!

So How Many Levels Are There?  How Many ico_cur_thoh2016_funeralcoins_lg Does It Cost to Level Up?

Currently there are 15 Levels.  Here’s a cost chart:

You start at Level 1, so that’s not included here

Some of you are confused with this chart.  This chart shows the cost to LEVEL UP, not the cost to purchase the items.  The item cost is in the breakdown below…NOT in this chart

14 630ico_cur_thoh2016_funeralcoins_lg Haunted Stables

Note: You’ll notice these numbers to level up are lower than they were in the Halloween is Live rundown post.  There was a recent patch that went in and adjusted the numbers…nice to see EA making things a little more doable for everyone 🙂

And no, unfortunately it’s not a running total.  You’ll need 5,200 ico_cur_thoh2016_funeralcoins_lg to level up completely.  So craft wisely my friends.

So now that we know HOW to craft let’s talk about what you can craft and the items details for each…starting with Level 1..

My Personal Opinion on Craftables…
Don’t kill yourself.  Most of this stuff is just decorations and really unimpressive.  (Shipwreck is a bit of a letdown)  Craft what you like/think you can use in your town…but really nothing is worth kill yourself over.
Best item?  Probably the Catacombs, since it earns income and comes with a task for Bart.
Beyond the Catacombs I would say the Pyre and Bats are the next two fun ones.  Everything else, to me anyway, is meh.

So again…don’t kill yourself trying to get all this stuff.  Sometimes less is more. Craft what you have use for in Springfield….don’t think you have to get the Shipwreck because it’s the last item, so therefore it’s the best.  Because it’s really not.

Hope that helps some of you who have been stressing out over crafting!

And there you have it my friends…the details behind Halloween 2016 Crafting!

What are your thoughts on crafting for the Halloween Event?  Which items are you digging?  Which would you pass on?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. I loved the fire thought that was cool and the barn
I’ve unlocked all of the prizes ship wreck was kinda disappointing
Just gonna now stock up on barns and fires

  2. All I have left available to craft that would get me MAG points is the shipwreck. But, that’ll get me up to 6,040. It’s literally impossible to unlock the final medieval gate upgrade. So how do I earn enough MAG points in another fashion?

  3. I have maxed out on my MAG points and am on level 12 of construction yard. Will I not be able to further advance to the other levels??

    • I was stuck the same way. Unfortunately, the only way out is to buy the level ups. Go to crafting pop up, tap the green pointer thingy near the top right corner just below the question mark. Will burn obols to get you to get next level. Then you are too broke to craft anything. Great system EA has there.

      • Incorrect – that’s not your only option. You can also spend the same number of obols crafting stuff to level up on the crafting track, if you’d prefer to get something for your obols, rather than only getting the level-up. Personally, I’ve been stocking up on iron fences, since I’m sure that they’ll come in handy for decorating someday down the line. I see no real downside to using the obols to craft stuff, since the crafted can just sit in my inventory, if I don’t want to use them right now. (I also crafted an extra set of bats, in case they’d look good with some spooky house or sitting in a future event.)

        • But doesn’t this only work if you still have craftables that earn MAG points? I’ve been stuck at level 12 for days because I’ve exhausted craftables with MAG points and can’t get more until I level up. Catch 22. I thought prize-track earnings would give me the MAG points to level up, but that only seems to effect my guild standing?

  4. I was pretty excited to see most of the craftables prizes because this is my first THOH event and I really wanted all the spooky trees! And I LOVE the wraith brambles and the weird spooky hedge. But for anyone who already has all these old decorations, wow, kind of boring, I imagine–and I suppose the shipwreck would be disappointing if it didn’t live up to expectations.
It’s actually the bigger items I find underwhelming (like the mini cave and ruins–but I like those items regardless).
I’m just not too pleased with the amount of obols each requires and the stinginess of acquiring obols. Yes, I know the two Obol bundles in act 3 are significant and will help to buy the shipwreck, but I want a hedge maze! Lol. And tons of trees and brambles. And my lowest priority: more (than the amount awarded for MAG points) fences so I can use them around both the mansion and cathedral 😉 But I wonder if I’ll have enough obols to really play that much with design; perhaps I’ll have to be satisfied that I have at least one of everything?! Meh.

  5. Never mind, figured it out. Now stuck at a higher level. Thanks EA

  6. Huh?? You’re going to have to give more details.

  7. I am still stuck on level 11 crafting & can’t move up since I already maxed out the crafting items that award points. Bought Crazy Iguana Lady today because I thought she paid 200 Mag points (& I wanted her). Did not affect anything. Any ideas?? This is at least a week like this.

  8. I wish EA would have the crafting menu count down and keep track of how many more items you’ll get MAG points for. (e.g., on crafting the walls, the message would say “first 8 awards 20 MAG points”, then after crafting one wall, it SHOULD say “next 7 awards 20 MAG points”, then “next 6 awards 20 MAG points”…etc.).

It would be EXTREMELY helpful if it kept track and counted down, especially with the ability to craft multiples all at once. I had wasted Obols because I forgot I had already crafted a few walls and used the multiple thing to build 8 (because it said I was supposed to get 20 MAG points each for the first 8 walls). I only got MAG points for 5 of them. The rest of those precious (and very hard to come by in my game) Obols were just wasted and didn’t contribute at all to MAG points. If it had counted down, I would have known I only get MAG for the next 5 walls, and would have used the multiples thing to craft only 5 walls.

EA also needs to fix the text glitch where the crafting menu tells players (who had put crafted items into storage) that they will get MAG points for crafting when they actually wont.

These issues have caused tremendous confusion and multiple people have now commented about them on here.

  9. I crafted 2 Forest Grove and received my 35 mag points for both. But after I crafted the limit of 2, it’s still saying I’ll receive another 35 mag if I craft another. Has anyone else noticed this?

    • It’s a text glitch. You won’t get any more MAG points for crafting another one. That message shows back up (on any crafting item that awards MAG points) if the item is put into storage. I really wish EA would fix this.

And I wish EA would also have it count down and keep track of how many more items you’ll get MAG points for. • Sorry shawtymclittle. I don’t know why it put that second comment (above) as a reply to yours. I had posted it as a comment for everyone to the overall post. It did this same thing to a different comment that I made on another post as well. Maybe a glitch with wordpress?

  10. I am stuck on lvl 11. I have 550/580 MAG points to level up but there is nothing left to craft to get me there. I already maxed out crafting smaller items that award MAG points so I have no way to get more MAG points. Any ideas???

    tonflo1

  11. Actually, aside from the hanging lamps, the bats and the pyre, the only thing I really want is the shipwreck. I have my own skull island thing going on with a mayflower and a floating temple (the one from last year) so a shipwreck really makes it looks even more creepy.
Burt I’m far from getting it and I sort of regret getting the catacombs because some Mission told me to get it, I wasted a lot of obols or whatever on it.

Also, I’ve bought the cobblestone Road and even though i like how it looks, I’m really dissappointed with the fact that you can’t even make bridges with it like you can do with regular roads!! For 40 donuts I’d expect more.
