Totbox’s Throwback Tuesday: S2 E16 Barts Dog Gets an F

Whose a good Addict?! Whose a good Addict?! You are, yes you are! Hello Guy dogs and … Female dogs,

Whether you like man’s best friend or not, dogs have learned a lot since their original Wolf counterparts. I would have had this written sooner but my dog ate my tablet. Now Sit, no need to beg, I’m going to give you a treat (this Throwback):

“Barts Dog Gets an F”
Santa’s Little Helper needs help so Bart takes him to a training school. This is going to be RUFF!

March 7th (not the K-9th) 1991, Season 2 Episode 16, the 29th episode of The Simpsons

FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING: Bernice Hibbert

There are also characters and items that appeared for the first time that Could come into TSTO in the future maybe. OH THE POSSIBILITIES:

Some previously requested Characters: Emily Winthrop (but since voiced by Tracey Ullman it’s unlikely she’ll be voiced in the game) and the Training School. Hibbert’s kids (for a little diversity, but they don’t offer much more than that).

Possible Skins: Casual Sweater Hibbert, Mr. Universe exercise Ned (which looks similar to his 4hr task so maybe this one is a pass), and Santa’s Little Helper with chain leash.

Possible NPCs: green bug, ducks, Martin’s dog with book balanced on it’s head,  (I know EA can make NPCs out of anything and so maybe, maybe) Bouvier Family quilt patterns -like Tobacco King etc. and yellow pages ad characters.

Possible Events: dog/pet training event

Characters and Things I didn’t mention because I personally have no interest in them joining the game Don’t Mention It: magazine salesman, talk show Joe, other dogs and dog owners (that I haven’t mentioned before), soap opera couple and priest, sneaker salesman (that looks familiar), other sneaker store people, Cookie Colossvs Hawaiian sample girl, farmer, since the stores were inside a mall I’m not listing them (but I might like the Cookie Colossvs statue as a decoration).

some Highlights:

Some other things to think about:

Lisa had the Mumps, which she got over fairly quickly (which is plausible) but it is highly contagious and no one else got it. Marge can thread a needle just by tossing it in the air, she should go on a talent show because she would win 🙂  Lisa is an insanely talented quilter considering she just picked up the skill.

Troy McClure had a different voice (in a quick channel change moment).

The cost for the Assassin sneaker is $125. One of the shoe sections (in the store) was “street crime”.  I also noticed that Ned’s right sneaker didn’t say “assassin” but “nissassa” yet his vanity-(Ned)-plate was read correctly.

Why was the Cookie Colossvs (Greek spelling and theme) shop have a sample girl dressed in Hawaiian garb?

My Pointless Opinion:  A cute episode and seeing Santa’s Little Helper’s point of view makes me wonder how other animals and pets might understand us (Human species). It is amazing the amount of time and energy that was put into the names of yellow-page businesses and numbers that appear so very briefly that you’ll need to freeze frame to read them all, which not even I did (I read a few). As per usual there are more images that I wished to use (like the black and white SLH point of view stuff) and other things but you should check out the episode yourself because there are other good moments.

So in the end when SLH obeys, was that through all Bart’s hard work or the opposite? perhaps it was all the fun and play that got SLH to want to follow direction. I like to think animals understand us more than they let on and they are just furry jerks :p teaching takes time and love and some people can do it better than others. 🙂

*the following pointless opinions do not reflect those of the admin of the site, nor any dog or pet.

Do you remember this episode? What was your favorite moment? Any of the Possibilities that you Really do/don’t like? Did you catch some of the mini-movie spoofs (mostly musical)? Do you own a pet (is it trained? What’s the worst damage it has done?)? Ever own a dog or wish to have one? Ever have the mumps? What do you think the best training methods are? Can you imagine a world without Pets? Sound off in the comments and have a wild journey back to your current space/time :p

  1. Can I use ‘the dog ate my tablet’ as my reason for not getting round to visiting my neighbours…?
(even though I play on my phone…😊😊😊)

  2. My little sister got stuck head and shoulders first into the dog vet carrier cage trying to show our dog how to get in and it’s safe. ..

…Needless to say my mother and I were in fits for an hour laughing before we had to unscrew the darn thing to get her out….

    …and yep…The dog never ever got in the cage 😀 😀 😀

I will be buying Santa’s little helper on sale ♡

  3. Marge can thread a needle just by throwing it up in the air?
    I can’t thread a needle. … period!
    Enjoyed reading this Tot. 🙂

  4. SLH “skin” with the leech could be a quest. And this game needs more cooperation tasks between characters. It’s strange that most of them are on their own in this game, and almost never interacting with each other.

  5. I was tempted to do a Gif of the frisbee bouncing of SLH’s face but was afraid PETA would come after me 😛

  6. Thank you Alissa for fixing the mistake, but as per usual I see something that I haven’t seen before. In the Don’t Mention It section I should have said dog owners* (plural form)

And it a Pavlovian response you’ll fix it (thanks in advance) -I’d give you a treat if you didn’t just rollover (with laughter) 🐶

  7. Is this a subliminal message telling me to get Santa’s Little Helper? Or is it super-liminal? I’ve been on the fence…

Anyway, to answer a few of your questions, I’ve had several pets. A cat, two dogs, two birds, three gerbils, and fish, both tropical and gold. They weren’t the best trained, nor were they the worst. One of the dogs ate half of a chocolate cheese cake. He would have eaten more, if only he could have reached it. I suppose that was as much our fault as his, though. Who can resist cheesecake?

I do remember this episode fairly well. My favorite moment/quote is at the end when SLH finally passes obedience school. “You son of a bitch. Good show!” (Can I say that here?)

    • I don’t know how someone can pass up buying SLH. But if you got this far you have more self control than he does.

Thank you for sharing your pet history. To prevent depressing people I’m not up to sharing all the details but I had fish, a couple dogs, and fancy rats. My dog Chewy (named after Chewbaca) once got his head stuck in a peanut butter jar and I was afraid we couldn’t get it off without hurting him — it was very scary because I don’t think air was getting in nor out… anyway someone took charge and rescued him. He was fine.

I’m not a fan of cheese cake. I almost included that quote from Emily Winthrop but in the end figured to leave it out. But that is one of my favorites too. 🙂

      • Do I have more self restraint than a dog? Hmm, I might have only eaten a quarter of the cheesecake, haha. Sounds like we’ve each had our share of pets. Unfortunately, I’ve developed allergies to both cats and dogs. At least the virtual kind shouldn’t cause me any problems, if I decide to get him. 😀

    • You might want to hold off getting SLH for a couple of days…(unless that’s what you were referring to).

I know I should have him, for classic Simpsons’ sake, but he just doesn’t interest me that much (unless maybe Bart has a task with him?). I did pick up Snowball a while back though, but I’m more of a cat person than a dog person.

      • SLH tasks are all by himself and indoors, so no visuals at all.

      • SLH is not currently available, so I can guess what that means. The thing I don’t like is that all his jobs take place in the Simpson house. I don’t really want to spend donuts on a character, only to have them disappear inside at all times. But, it is Santa’s Little Helper…

  8. This is one of those episodes that my husband and I still quote from, from time to time… “But I don’t want to strangle my dog!” My husband generally likes animals better than people, and he had a dog as a child, so he could definitely relate. And there’s just something so sweet about the way Bart says it…it’s one of those Simpsons moments that reminds us that, for all of his “bad child” ways, there’s really a good person inside.

    • It is a good quote.

My favourite The Simpsons quote comes from my favourite The Simpsons character, Milhouse; and is related to Santa’s Little Helper too:

“Remember when he ate my goldfish, and then you lied to me and said I never had any goldfish. But why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?”

      • I wouldn’t say that the other one was our/my favorite….there are several that we tend to quote (most recently it was either, “Well, I, for one, welcome our new ant overlords” or “Can’t sleep – clown will eat me”), but I’d have to give some thought to what my favorite one is. But, yeah…your goldfish one is a classic!

    • you see Bart’s rebellious side but also his love for SLH shine through making this a great episode. I also really liked Maggie hugging SLH when Homer was threatening to kick him out (Maggie seems aware of what was going on there) – cutest moment I thought.
