Where Did THAT Come From – Yard Work Simulator

Hey hey friends… Thanksgiving gave me a week from the tedium of college so I’m back for a moment with a couple origin posts from the Cyber Monday Deal. In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where did THAT Come From?

So Gil popped on by with another one of his “deals” and this one probably made a lot of people either nostalgic for or cringing about the SciFi Event from this year. I mean, jeesh, a boxy computer stand involving hedge trimming? I’m in the excitement camp on this deal for 175 donuts. I figured since I had a bit of time I didn’t have to dedicate to school work that I’d write a couple posts for the new items. Bunny Foo Foo has been holding down the fort for origin stories but I do truly love writing these for all of you. I know new stuff might make a few of you wonder just where the heck it all comes from. Well no fears friends, that’s where this walking carpet comes in handy. For this round, we’ll be looking at the Yard Work Simulator.

“Bart Carny” (S9:E12)

You may remember this episode as the one where Homer and Bart become carnys and make friends with Cooder and Spud. While not in my top episodes ever, it was written by the great John Swartzwelder and has plenty of laughs. I mean, where else would you find a plot including the voice talent of Jim Varney (I miss you Ernest), Hitler’s car, a glass-bottomed boat, and hula hooping a chimney? To find the Yard Work Simulator, we don’t have to go too far into the episode. It all starts with Marge finding the backyard all overgrown with weeds. The kiddos haven’t been doing their chores.

Chopping each other’s hands off isn’t a viable option to lessen the yard work to be done and hard work making them quit wasn’t too good an option either as Lisa and Bart won’t get an allowance if they don’t do their chores even if they figure their room and board is free and Santa will do the rest. The promise of a carnival almost gets them to do work but right as Marge is winning, Homer is just as excited by the carnival and gives the kiddos cash for it. Oh well. Off we go to Colonel Tex’s Traveling Carnival. There’s lots of games and rides to enjoy. You might recognize a few from Krustyland. I guess this means we can blame Krustyland on the Rich Texan.

One of the offerings Bart is excited about at the carnival is the Yard Work Simulator. I’m sure you get why this is funny. Makes sense to me since my own kids would rather live existence through video games rather than the real thing. If only my chores could be done digitally.

I think a carnival in Springfield could be lots of fun and a nice way to add some fun to Krustyland. There could be a more done with it involving the Rich Texan IMHO. What I really would like is the Screamatorium of Dr. Frightmarestein.
