Should I Spend Donuts On Old Tree Spirit?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

The snow is falling in Springfield and that can only mean it’s Winter time in our pocket sized towns!  And of course it wouldn’t be an event in Springfield without premium items in our stores, just tempting us to spend sprinkles on them!

Of course with that limited-time label it can be tempting to buy everything that looks as awesome as this because it’ll be gone soon.  But don’t sweat it!  That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth those donuts and what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add the Old Tree Spirit to your Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding this talking tree to your Springfield…

Pros
-Animated when in use, eyes open and move around.  Birds fly around the tree
-Lisa has 4hr task there, Write in her Diary $260, 70xp
-Earns event currency/4hrs.  Which will change over to Act 2 currency when it starts.
-Decent, but not the best, bonus %
-Comes with a short (1 part) questline

Cons
-Not necessary to successfully complete the prize track
-Pretty large base (space it takes up) for a tree
-Expensive for what it is/does

Final Thought
Premium
I like this one.  It’s an amusing little decoration, which reminds me of the trees in Wizard of Oz. Decent bonus % and it also pays out event currency, plus there is a 4hr task for Lisa there.  Win, win, win.  The biggest downside is the price.    So if you like it…grab it.  But if you’re on the fence I’d hold off for now at least.

Freemium
So here’s the deal on this one.  There aren’t many new Premium items being offered in Act 1 for this event, so if you like this and it “speaks” to you..grab it.  Otherwise pass.  It’s not necessary to succeed in the event, but it’s a fun item.  So if you like it, grab it.  Otherwise pass and save your precious donuts for more down the line.  (and if you’ve got some items of Christmas past in mind, save them for that)

Of course in the end it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would or wouldn’t do.  And I can tell you as a premium player, I’m debating this one still.  I’ll likely make my final decision (leaning towards grabbing it) by Friday.  Remember this is one of those items that helps with the event, so the sooner you pick it up the more beneficial it will be to you.   So I would say make your final decision prior to the weekend so that you can get the most benefit from it.

Here’s a look at the dialogue that comes with it…

Old Tree Spirit
Lisa starts

Lisa: “Dear Diary…Many of the beliefs these Pagans have are silly, and, with the Eastern European ones, more than a teensy bit racist. But I find animism — the idea that spirits live everywhere, even inside rocks and trees –quite charming.”
Tree Spirit: Aww, thanks, Lisa.
Lisa: … Gonna choose to ignore that.
Tree Spirit: Sorry.  You’re writing in your diary.  I shouldn’t interrupt.
Lisa: Eep!
Make Lisa Write in Her Diary- 4hrs, Earns $260, 70xp
Lisa: I’m probably dreaming.  I MUST be dreaming.  No way there’s a spirit inside that tree.
Tree Spirit: Fine.  Maybe I’LL choose not to believe in YOU. Lisa isn’t re-al.
Lisa: Tree Spirit isn’t real.
Tree Spirit: So weird to be speaking to a little girl– WHEN EVERYBODY KNOWS LITTLE GIRLS AREN’T REAL.
Lisa: Touche.

  1. I think I just got this for free when act 2 started? It showed up next to santa’s workshop, and Lisa’s questline is now in my task bar …

  2. Heather Hardcore

I totally agree, I can’t check in at work so it’s nice to have the extra currency, plus I love the wizard of oz style talking tree.

  3. It’s helpful to have if –

You work long hours with no access to TSTO when on the job
Appreciate an Animated Tree (smaller then thee Arbor Day Tree) 🙂

  4. Josephine Kick@$$

    Thank you Alissa 😊

  5. Help!

I was trying to decide whether to buy this, so I selected it in the store and looked at the “shadow” version to get a better sense of size and where I would place it, then decided not to buy it right then, so I said no to the donut confirm. The tree went back to the store, but my doing what I did triggered the questline for the tree, so now I have a task in my task book to send Lisa to the tree.

So, here’s my question…. If I never buy the tree, will that task be stuck in my task book forever?

    • Likely. Best resolution would be contact EA, see if they can pull it.

      • Thanks for the reply! 🙂

If the tree were just a little bit cheaper (and smaller), I’d have gone ahead and just gotten it by now, but 110 donuts seems like a lot for any decoration. I may still cave in and get it, but, if I don’t, I guess I’ll have to contact EA, as you suggested.

        Thanks, again! 🙂

  6. Got it & basically happy w/another fairly unique, groovy nature item in my 3 year old town; definitely a bit overpriced by 20-30, but it is cool.

  7. (sarcasm) Yay! Yet another item that add a plus to Vanity (/sarcasm)
I’ve had everything maxed out except for tree-hugging forever. Really wish more new items gave a tree-hugging bonus 🙁

  8. Thanks much (as always!), Alissa.
I was probably going to get this anyway….it reminds me of a Game of Thrones weirwood, what with the face and all.

  9. I really liked it, but I rarely buy things that aren’t characters. However, I realized that I really wanted it, so I purchased it and I love it!

  10. Gino or the tree, Gino or the tree, Gino or the tree??? Ahhhh! I got Santa’s workshop right away, loved the skins. Now I am just shy of enough for Gino but should have the donuts by Monday or so, or could buy the tree now. I’m a tiny bit behind somehow on antlers, so either would help me get back on track, plus help me earn back some donuts in the end… Decisions, decisions. I don’t want to wait too long though, or I get less help from my purchase…

  11. I got it right away. I always love fantasy stories about fairies and talking trees and since it generates antlers it was a good buy for me. It’s so cute!

  12. I was on the fence about this one, but I definitely think I need to spend all my donuts on everything EA is offering this event that I don’t already have.

  13. Bought it immediately, Springfield can always use more tree diversity. Any idea if it will have leaves in the summer?

  14. After looking ahead at all the prizes and crafting goodies, I couldn’t find a single item that was as nice as this tree. Pulled the trigger immediately…I love it. I can definitely see it in my town after the event as the centerpiece of a park.

  15. I was thinking of getting it, but its 7×7 footprint is one thing that’s giving me pause for thought…

  16. This is all I’ve been thinking about since this event started:

  17. Short Hint.
If you have some Haywagons in your Storage! (Bought during Haloween but never used them)
place them on Ground to recieve bonus Antlers without crafting those wagons.
