2016 Winter Event 101: Crafting

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Ah the long awaited, Crafting post….where I give you the how tos and break down each and every item available to craft, so you don’t miss a thing!

Love it or hate it, EA has proven over the last couple of years that crafting is here to stay.  While the prizes themselves are pretty self explanatory, collect this to earn these prizes, crafting is a whole other “animal”.  Crafting requires some self direction.  You decide what you want and collect the items to craft accordingly.  Sometimes this is successful and sometimes it’s not. And, as with all things, for some events crafting is easier than others.

Now I know some of you still have questions about what to craft, if you should craft or Level Up, what happens in future Acts…so, as we’ve done in the past, we’re here to break it all down for you.  So let’s take a look at the basics of Crafting for the entire event.

2016-12-06-20-03-32

As always we’ll start with the basics…

When Does Crafting Start?

Crafting unlocks after you’ve completed A Pagan Paradise Pt. 2 (where you tap Pagans in a friend’s town).  At this point you’ll get a quest called Logging in. (Check out the Turbo Tappin’ walkthrough if you’re stuck) This will unlock the…

lumber_millLumber Mill- Free, 8×8 in size.

Once you’ve built the Lumber Mill you’ll be able to start crafting, provided you have enough crafting currency to craft the desired item.

How Do I Access the Crafting Menu?

Just like every other event the Crafting Menu is accessible via the Event Hub.

ico_mhud_xmas2016_eventhub

The Trophy with the antlers for sides is your event hub.  Click on it and you’ll access your event hub for this event.

From there you want to find the crafting Icon, fourth one down on the left, that looks like this:

ico_mhub_xmas2016_crafting

Tap on it and that’ll bring up your Crafting Menu (Also known as the Lumber Mill):

2016-12-12-15-53-37

You can also access your Crafting Menu (the quick way) by tapping on your Lumber Mill in Springfield…

When Does Crafting End?

Crafting is available for the ENTIRE event.  You read that right…the ENTIRE event.  So you have until December 30th to craft everything!

Plenty of time…so take your time.

What Is the Crafting Currency?

So it’s 1 crafting currency for the ENTIRE Event.

The crafting currency for the event is Runestones:

ico_cur_xmas2016_runestones_lg

How Do I Earn Crafting Currency?

So as many of you have pointed out…Runestones are not exactly plentiful in this event.  But keep in mind Crafting is for the ENTIRE event…so there’s no rush to craft or level up.  Build up as many Runestones as you can and then craft/level up at your pace.

Here are are the ways you can earn Runestones in this event:

ico_xmas2016_runestones_pack3 ico_xmas2016_runestones_pack2

-Tapping Pagans in Springfield (Act 1).  Each Pagan you Tap will yield 2 Runestones
-Prize Track, for Act 1 there are two Runestone Prizes.  One yielding 100 stones and the other 250 stones.
-Daily Offerings at Springhenge.  Just about every day, except for every 4th day, Springhenge will award you 100 Runestones for completing 4 offering trade ins.

It’ll be a grind for this event…but keep at it they’ll continually build up.

What’s the Deal With the Crafting Levels?  What do They Do?  And Should I Level Up or Craft?!

2016-12-12-15-53-37

So with this update, similar to past updates, there are Levels for crafting.  Unlocking each level will unlock a new item to Craft.

Leveling up will cost you Runestones ico_cur_xmas2016_runestones_lg.  And once again they’ve decided to stick with what’s worked in the two most recent events, you do NOT have to choose between Leveling up and Crafting.  The Runestones you spend to Craft items will count towards the Runestones needed to Level up!

What does this mean?  Well basically if it costs 300 ico_cur_xmas2016_runestones_lg to move up to the next level, and you want to craft Carnival Banners (which cost 120ico_cur_xmas2016_runestones_lg each)..you don’t have to decide between Leveling up and Crafting.  Simply craft the Carnival Banners and 120ico_cur_xmas2016_runestones_lg will be deducted from the 300 ico_cur_xmas2016_runestones_lg required to Level Up.

So you DO NOT have to decide between Leveling Up and Crafting, because you’ll Level Up WHILE you Craft!

So How Many Levels Are There?  How Many ico_cur_xmas2016_runestones_lg Does It Cost to Level Up?

Currently there are 10 Levels.  Here’s a cost chart:

You start at Level 1, so that’s not included here

Some of you are confused with this chart.  This chart shows the cost to LEVEL UP, not the cost to purchase the items.  The item cost is in the breakdown below…NOT in this chart

To Reach Level Cost Unlocks
2 300ico_cur_xmas2016_runestones_lg Large Mushrooms
Chicken Coop
3 400ico_cur_xmas2016_runestones_lg Goat Head Statue

10 1,650ico_cur_xmas2016_runestones_lg Dunk the Monk

And no, unfortunately it’s not a running total.  You’ll need 8,220 ico_cur_xmas2016_runestones_lg to level up completely.  So craft wisely my friends.

So now that we know HOW to craft let’s talk about what you can craft and the items details for each…starting with Level 1..

You’ll be able to earn event currency when placing these craftable items.  For Act 1 that currency is Antlers.  Quantities of Antlers earned for Act 1 are indicated in the breakdowns.

My Personal Opinion on Craftables…
Don’t kill yourself.  Most of this stuff is just decorations and really unimpressive.  Craft what you like/think you can use in your town…but really nothing is worth kill yourself over.

Best item?  It’ll vary depending on your opinion of things.  Dunk the Monk is funny to me, and I like Phone Henge as a kiosk for Springfield Heights.  Beyond that Fir is Murder Christmas Tree is probably the only other thing I’ll want to craft.  Everything else is just random filler/decorations.  So grab what you like and pass on when you don’t.

So again…don’t kill yourself trying to get all this stuff.  Sometimes less is more. Craft what you have use for in Springfield….

Hope that helps some of you who have been stressing out over crafting!

And there you have it my friends…the details behind Winter 2016 Crafting!

What are your thoughts on crafting for the Winter Crafting List?  Which items are you digging?  Which would you pass on?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. Man…I’ve been earning donuts for days but never hit crafting rank 10 for some reason, even after tapping everything in site/daily missions/gnome/etc. What did I miss?!? I always hit max crafting rank when events like this roll around…

  2. I thought they added a bonus percentage to windmills in the game a few months ago, but no bonus is showing up now with new ones I have crafted. I guess they took that away?

    • As Alissa has mentioned several times, the two versions of the windmills are coded differently…there’s a version that earn a bonus and a version that doesn’t.

      • Okay, I missed that comment. Thanks.

        • No problem! 🙂

Upon rereading my comment, it seems like I may have unintentionally sounded like I was scolding you or something…that wasn’t my intent. I just mentioned the Alissa thing so she’d get the credit for having already addressed it a few times, not because I thought you should feel bad for not having seen it! Sorry if it seemed more like the latter.

          • No, it is all good. I honestly didn’t see Alissa’s remark about it. With my work schedule this past year and half, I’m not able to digest this website (and it’s a great resource for the game and its community) as easily as I used to beforehand. I didn’t take offense. Thanks for making it clear that none was intended. Cheers!

  3. I must say this has been a fairly easy crafting game. With tasks along the way to guide things. There isn’t much weighing of options as they are all basically the same. I’ve already completed the leveling up and gotten at least one of every craftable. The downside being, there isn’t much of interest or use to craft this time around.

    • Did you hit every town every day and buy the pass? I am 1k out from level 10 plus what is needed for dunk the monk.

  4. Okay, for those who might be wondering, I thought I’d provide info as to which craftables earn the best return in terms of brooches (or, previously, antlers) awarded to stones spent. First, let me preface this by saying that they all have fairly close to the same return rate, so, don’t let the return rate stop you from getting stuff you actually want, even if they’re at the bottom of the list. This list is more for using after you’ve gotten everything you really want and want to maximize your brooch income from crafting. Second, this list doesn’t include the unique items, which I’m assuming everyone will want to craft, anyway. And, third, I’ve truncated the return rate to the third decimal place (no rounding).

So, here’s the list, from “best” to “worst”…

Carnival banners (all types), large (not giant) mushrooms, and pagan cauldrons – .833
    Small pagan tent – .815
    Chicken coop – .809
    Goat head statue – .805
    Everything else – .800

    Hope this helps! 🙂

  5. I just placed phone henge and didn’t get any brooches. I went to Kristy land and back, closed the game and came back…nothing. has this happened to anyone? Seems like a too much effort to contact EA over this

    • I placed the Fir is Murder tree (2, actually) & didn’t get my Brooches (or XP, which everything else has given me). I *did* contact EA (I certainly wouldnt have crafted them yet if I didnt expect Brooches – I wouldve waited until the end & got them with anything I had left after unlocking StarSuit Maggie!), & the person who called me back had to go ‘talk to a specialist’, came back & said the specialist would email me back. He also mentioned it was a known issue & they’re working on fixing it (which sounds like a line to me.. ). Hrm.

I’ll try contacting them again, since I haven’t heard back yet.

  6. By any chance is there a post telling you what is the best thing to craft in return for event currency

    • Everything is pretty much at a similar rate…

      • I just did the calculation myself to compare the monk dunker and the braziers. Exactly the same return on both. So more braziers it is…. unless we get a special prize for getting the monk dunker.

    • I did the stats for all of the non-unique items and was planning to post that info later today. But, the short answer is that the banners, large (not giant) mushrooms, and the pagan cauldron offer the best return (at least so far…. I’m only up to the part where I’ve unlocked the third (red) banner).

  7. It’s Crafting
    It’s still Fun
(except this time you can’t craft multiple Buildings, like before)

I’m about to craft the Pagan Hall , then will be at Level 8 (no real effort getting to that Level, or earning runestones)

I wish Springfield Characters had permanent tasks with more than 1 crafted Building (but I’m still having fun, hope you all are, too) 🙂

  8. How exactly is day 13 unlocked at springhedge? The event is like 12 days but it only unlocks at day 13…when its supposed to end that act? So confused
