Addicts Open Thread

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

It’s that time of the week again, time for the Addicts Weekly Open Thread!  So, let’s get the conversation going!  Oh and remember…just because this is posted here today doesn’t mean you can’t comment on it all week long.  This open thread will still be open for comments long after today is over!

Here’s where you can talk about anything you want to talk about…TSTO Related, Simpson’s Related or ANYTHING.  Just no Add me requests…those should go here.  We’ll give you a few suggestions (like most Sunday’s you can talk about the current episode of the Simpsons) but for the most part you’re free to talk about ANYTHING your little Tapping Fingers desire…just keep it PG.

So, here is your Open Thread…..

No new episodes of The Simpsons this week, but be sure to vote in our Christmas Episode Ranking Poll

Winter Event Act 2 hit earlier this morning, what are your thoughts so far on the new prizes and game changes?

Only 1 week until Christmas (and less than that until the start of Hanukkah)!!!!  Have you finished your shopping yet?!

How was your weekend?  Do anything fun and exciting?  I’ve finished my shopping, and almost all the wrapping (still waiting on a handful of items to come in).  Today we’re planning on making Christmas cookies and watching the best Christmas Movie (or any movie really), It’s a Wonderful Life. (I should note that yesterday we also watched Christmas Vacation (classic) and the Veggie Tales version of It’s a Wonderful Life, Riley enjoy the dancing veggies 😉 )

So chat about the Simpsons, TSTO, Update fun, or anything else you can think of!  Can’t wait to chat with you all, you know we love hearing from you!

Have Fun!  And happy Sunday!

  1. Looking through my Character collections I have found Founders with 2 characters greyed out but have not had any quests to get them any ideas how I do.

    RIP George & Carrie 😔

  3. I’m loving the parsons little ditty. ‘I love to go to church. It’s where I like to be. I stay and pray all day and still tee off by 3’
Finally, a car that travels on the road.
Currently earning bonuts. I’m getting 3 a day so pretty happy with that. I’ve still got a few quest lines waiting to be done but I’ll wait till the event finishes to do them. Does anyone know what Marges do the laundry task is linked to? It’s part of a quest.
I’m so looking forward to New Years Eve. We will be partying on a boat on the Yarra river, viewing the city skyline and watching the fireworks. There will be a live band on board too. Haven’t had a decent NYE ever. Usually stay home and watch fireworks on TV.
We are going on a driving trip to Sydney for a few days then visiting some friends in NSW. It’s nice to have the family at home.

I’d like to start with thanking you for all your hard work guys, even a “seasoned pro like me”😂😂 needs your help😀

I’d also like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, or however you celebrate. (Or maybe not celebrate)😀

Now a question for our experts. I have no option to purchase anything with event currency 😳 The tab isn’t even there😕 I hope EA comes up with something for me to purchase. Now all my efforts to collect are a complete waste. I only had a few items, (in the box) to to purchase 😱 I’d like to think they’d at least give me some more options. I’m sure there are others in the same boat.

PLEASE EA, add SOMETHING & let me collect towards it 😃😃😃😃

  5. Hi Lambwaffle, how are you going? Wishing you a lovely Christmas and a special New Year😀🎄💕🌺💐🌸

  6. Happy Christmas to everyone🎄Hope you all have a relaxing and enjoyable break.
I’ve been slaving over a hot stove lately, channeling Julia Child. I’m so pleased with the result. I’ve never cooked this before and it will be a while before I make it again. I had to do it at least once in my life. It’s a Pate de Canard en Croute (boned stuffed duck in a pastry shell)
It took all day to make. Had to have a g&t, a good lie down and a day off afterwards😄

    • Wow – I’m super impressed! What time should I be there for dinner? 😉

      • It would be a very long and expensive trip for you to be here on Christmas Day! I’m afraid it will be devoured by the time you get here😉I’ll save you some.
By the way, me and my family will be visiting the US around October next year. We are taking my daughter to the Supernatural convention in New Orleans and travelling around for about 3 weeks. We haven’t worked out the details yet but I would love to meet up with some TSTO addicts If possible. Would you be interested in meeting up with us then?

        • If you end up in the Boston area, sure! 🙂

          • I would love to go to New York City which isn’t far from Boston, is it? Boston would be a lovely city to visit. I hope we can swing it. I’d like to do a train trip at some point. Maybe from New York to Boston.
I’ll have to exchange contact details with you. It’s still a long way off so plenty of time. It would be great to meet you xxxx

        • Hi Sue, if your travels bring you to Florida, I would love to meet up with you. Merry Christmas Eve.

          • I’m pretty sure we’ll be going to Orlando. I’d love to meet up with you Cindy😄 We’ll have to exchange contact details. I’m not sure how to do this without posting here. Do you have any ideas?
And a Merry Christmas to you too xxxx

            • Hi Sue, I’m so excited I’ll get to meet you in person. I’m only 1 1/2 hours from Orlando! I have gotten in touch with one person in here, Alissa got both our permission and forwarded email info. We can ask her after things calm down if she will hook us up. If that doesn’t work out we can exchange emails some other way not sure if both of us are willing to put email in open thread. We have time so we WILL figure it out. I can’t wait to see you.
What is Supernatural in New Orleans? Enjoy your family, Cheers!

          • There was no reply option to your latest comment so I’m putting it here. I’m so excited!! I’m sure we can hire a car for a day and come to see you. I’d love to meet Chewfred and Hank too.
Supernatural is a tv show that my daughter loves and there is a pop culture convention in New Orleans as well as other parts of the US. She likes collecting photos of movie and TV stars and meeting them. There are usually about 4 or 5 that come to Melbourne and Sydney throughout the year but not all of the higher profile stars come out to Australia so she has been harassing us for years to travel to the states. We finally gave in.
I travelled to the states many years ago, the 80’s, so it will be interesting to see it again after all that time. So looking forward to meeting you! 😘

            • Hi Sue, your daughter has good taste I love Supernatural as well.😊
Chewfred and I can also go to Orlando, only thing you wouldn’t meet all the dogs, (woof). You are all more than welcome to come here. Let me know while planning your trip if you need help or suggestions. Hope you had a great Christmas, how was dinner?

          • Some inside info would be great! Dinner was lovely. The duck terrine was very rich but good. My fave has to be my brothers roast pork with crackling. The choc mousse cake was pretty good too. We don’t do the traditional plum pudding any more. Weather too hot. Thanks for offering to drive to Orlando. I really appreciate it. what did you do on Christmas Day?

            • Hi Sue, sorry for delay had to make another trip to vet all day venture as Hank not feeling well, and I have pneumonia. Needless to say not a fun day. It’s hot here too well not for FL but too hot for a lay down in jeep so we drove, stopped, drove, etc…..Thank you for your kind words but alas my boy isn’t doing well. Vet said murmur is bad and not going to get better he has a tear in his heart valve. I love him and not giving up, but very sad. We put him on heart meds and will pray for the best. I’ve had miracle happen with other dogs so hoping for one for him, he is the sweetest boy. Enough I’m depressing myself lol.
Christmas was at Chewfred’s her Dad & wife came over. They all had prime rib (I don’t eat meat). The chocolate mousse cake sounds so good. This was my first ever Christmas no chocolate ☹️.
I am happy about your trip, excited to meet you & your daughter and anyone else traveling with you.
Are you near beaches where you live?
Hope all is well with you my friend.

          • All is well here but I’m so sorry you’re not well. I’m hoping Hank gets better too. Fingers and toes crossed. It will soon be the new year so maybe that will bring you some joy.
Yes we are near the beach, a 20 minute walk. We live near Port Philip Bay. If you go to Google Earth you can zoom in. Type Gardenvale, Melbourne, Australia. That should take you there.
Sending hugs and positive thoughts to you and Hank. Hang in there🌈☀️💫

            • So jealous Sue of the beach! kidding of course. I miss the beach since moving, it’s about hour & half drive now and not as nice as beaches down south.
Hank’s test didn’t come back too good so dealing with another issue on top of heart, but I’m going to love him & not give up. Thanks for the support.
Do you have big plans for New Years? Mine will probably be home trying to keep dogs calm from fire crackers! I’m not much on going out, it’s an expensive venture here in states, with not such great food, then you drive with pep drinking & driving, so I’ve always stayed at home with a party at house or lately it’s just been a quiet night. I am however happy to put this year to rest, So many losses personal and all the celebrities. Bring in the new year.🎉🎊🍾🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈

            • Don’t know what happened thought first message disappeared sorry didn’t mean to send two and long winded at that ARGHHHHH.

  7. I don’t know if ea is reading this but could the mods please show it to them? Next year I would LOVE to do a “Home Alone” event. It could be called Homer Alone. We could have snake, the babysitter bandit and other crooks break into the sims on house and homer and Bart have to set up traps to stop them.

  8. Kala ~ Willowluvluv

LOL I read an article/review by Andrew Cross on askmen.com about MeUndies. Having pretty much given up on shopping for the personal or meaningful gift portion my impossible to shop for boyfriend, based on the article, I got curious and went to the MeUndies.com site and got him a 3 pack of the dark colors, but maaaaaan, if he was a TSTO player/addict, I SO would’ve gotten him the pink pack as it showed ONE COVERED IN PINK DONUTS WITH SPRINKLES!!! Bwaaaahahah!! Hmmmm… They also have women’s wear…. Gonna have to go back and look at those now Heeheehee 😉

  9. Does anyone know anything about the bonus stuff that popped up today when you buy donuts?

  10. Hi Alissa,
First off loved, loved, loved Riley dancing with Homer! Chewfred just lost a long time friend to,horrific car accident this morn when she came home I said have the perfect thing to make you smile, we watched it 3 times and yes she was laughing! Those curls and eyes are beautiful. Delightful to see a happy baby at Christmas time.
I support the no open thread on Sunday, can’t you just keep this one open? All of you need to be with your families, as much as we as a community love being in touch with each other we can agree to wish everyone a happy whatever you celebrate early and take Sunday off.
Hope you are enjoying your new home this Christmas season.

  11. A thought for those without religion, without family, with only acquaintances to share their thoughts with.
This time of year can be a struggle for some, for those whom the concept of celebrating is abhorrent and foreign.
My best wishes and strength to uphold YOUR values, despite the onslaught of ever unrelenting greetings unfamiliar and insincere. Remember that your concepts though unfamiliar to the majority are still valid.

    • This is very well written. Thanks

      • Thank you Sean, it is unfortunate that even some of those whom profess to be atheist pander to accept inflicted beliefs and pass on a sentiment that should be to them a hypocrisy. In what should be an accepting society, the majority still choose to enforce their values without validating whether it may be relevant. I understand that opinions are freely expressed, however the expectancy of reciprocal greetings is still treated as mainstream, and a contrary opinion is looked upon as offense.

  12. my lisa and willy have not hooked up yet so no satre willy

    what gives

how do i get this next flow going?

  13. I hope we get something with a warm and fuzzy feel, or ANYTHING uplifting, from this event somewhere down the line. How cool would it be to see fireworks erupt from my Sit-N-Rotate on New Years Eve… Oh, sorry, Just woke up from a bad dream… Geeezzz…

  14. Just finished Fear the Walking Dead. This season reached a crawl in the middle. Luckily it was more interesting towards the end.

I got a question. How come most US dramas tends to take a hiatus during this period? Is it to program Xmas shows into the slots?

    • I think it’s so the actors and production crew don’t die of exhaustion.

    • I think it’s all about the ratings. Less viewers watching at this time of year means a lower rating which can bring in less ad revenue for the network

    • Hi Sean, as an American in answer to your question its about money of course. Yes they replace a lot of programming with Christmas movies, I love the old ones but a lot of newer are just filler rubbish. People are out and celebrating so Tv ratings go down, so advertisement money is harder to come by, so they save the new episodes for what now are called rating months. You can probably tell by now I’m not a fan of this format. I’m dating myself but when I was younger shows ran from Sept till end of May then reruns. Now we have winter finales and end of season finales kind of stinks if you are watching a continuing story.
I tend to be behind in the shows I watch so I just watch as I’m able than I don’t have the two months in between the so called seasons.

  15. Really happy with this event and it’s prizes. Making a secret pagan camp deep in the spooky selection of my forest. Already had all the booths and carts from previous events in a whacking day farmers market area so I added the new signs and made some adjustments so it’s now a paganish Renaisance festival. Pumped for
    Goth Lisa.

  16. Hello All – A day late, as usual, but better than I sometimes am. 🙂 Busy weekend. My 7 yr old daughter was in her first official tournament. Although they only won 1 of their 3 games, they only lost the other two by a single goal and did very well. The fun of a tournament is the team meals, and the swag gifts (Ottawa Senators ball caps in this case), and all the treats parents bring, etc. A great first experience – and given how busy I am and that the forecast was for freezing rain Sunday morning, I wasn’t too disappointed to not make playoffs. Instead, we made it to church on only slightly slippery roads, where lighting the 4th Advent candle and watching the children do the nativity play as the gospel, really helped put me in the proper Christmas frame of mind. Just lovely.

I took my son to his hockey Christmas party (laser tag), and hopped off to do some much overdue Christmas shopping, where I scored the exact same, very specific, items, my 13 yr old daughter wants. Once I retrieved the boy, we spent another 2 hrs shopping together, and we were so successful, I felt like one of those rich ladies, with the 20 bags hanging off me! My list is very small now. If only I had even one single thing wrapped….ugh. Gonna’ be a big job this week. My husband and I picked up the turkey and other items needed to host our meal on Christmas Eve with my mom and her boyfriend. This is a relatively new tradition (the old one was lasagne and caesar salad after the kids mass – which was awesome). But we just have too much family and I put my foot down that we are not running around like fools anymore to please everyone except ourselves. So for the second year running, we will have my mom for a full turkey dinner on Christmas Eve. We have decided to try midnight mass for the first time ever with the kids, so that will give us all evening and no rush. The mass may be tough, but my mom always took me to midnight mass and I was fine – although I did usually fall asleep briefly – but that feeling of walking out on Christmas morning is just amazing. Christmas morning, my dad and his wife will come to our house for brunch, after which we will pack up and go to my sister in law’s for a late lunch/turkey dinner with my husband’s side of the family. We’ll probably get home around 7-8 pm and then indulge my favourite part of Christmas – Boxing Day, where we wear our pj’s all day and do nothing but play with our new things, read our books, eat leftovers and treats, watch movies, and possibly hit the toboggan hill or outdoor rink (but only if we want to, LOL).

Although I will miss you all, I agree we should have no open thread. I wish we could have one the next day, but how can I insist on my carefree day and wish the obligating of moderating on Alissa, Patric, et al? So, if they freely wish to do so, then yay, but otherwise, Merry Christmas to all, until next time we chat. 🙂

    • I forgot to add – our cat also had surgery last Thursday to remove a suspicious lump on her tail. Poor thing is not enjoying wearing he “cone of shame”, but she’s doing well and we’re so grateful nothing bad happened before Christmas. Fingers crossed the lab will say the lump was benign, but even if it wasn’t, the doctor said it was just on top of the skin and we got it all, so it shouldn’t matter even if it was cancer as we took it off. She’s only 5 yrs old and I expect her around another 10 at least!

    • Wow JJLeigh73! You wrote a lovely, perfect summarization of this crazed holiday season. My oldest son’s birthday is Halloween, and I now consider that to be ‘day one’ of this long, crazed, wonderful holiday marathon that you illustrated so well. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy what you can because; when your cup runnith over it is hard to appreciate, but also it is so much more wonderful than when half empty! Best holiday wishes to you and all.

      • Thank you! You made my day with your lovely comment. Yes, life is crazy around here, but I embraced the crazy long ago. I find we’re much happer in life when we learn to “roll with things”. Best wishes to you as well for the holidays and the new year.

  17. Does anyone know why most (if not all) characters now have a 6 second task available to “learn about christmas”? Is this a mini easter egg type challenge??

  18. Anybody know the person/job that animates Wall E Weasel’s pizza place? (Probably Bart, but which job?) The animation in one area of my town came on by itself, and I had forgotten that the Weasel even moved…very cute, I want to be able to do it again on a job. I think the babysitter and odd jobs guy only go into houses.

  19. Anybody else want to remind EA about Friendship Prizes? They seem to have given up on those….

  20. I think most of you must be busy preparing for Xmas celebrations judging by the number of comments for the past weekends.

For me, I have embarked on reading the Walking Dead comics as I wait for the TV series coming in Feb next year. I am now at issue 91.

I watched a few movies, Batman Vs Superman Ultimate Cut, Falling Down and Lights Out. Falling Down despite being a movie from 90s is still very relevant today and thought provoking.

    • Marion (AnothrAddict

Falling Down, what a fantastic movie. And you are right, incredibly thought provoking. One of Michael Douglas’ most memorable performances. Robert Duvall is brilliant as well…and it is a Joel Schumacher film, hes done some of my favorites…Flatliners, Lost Boys, 8mm. Havent seen it in a while, i need to change that. Off to my apple tv to see if i can find it!! Thanks Sean!

    • Falling Down… one of my absolute favorite movies. When in school I began a Film Appreciation Society, it was the first film we showed, over 20 years ago. Another favourite, The Fisher King, one of Robin’s best movies…
