Where Did THAT Come From – Goth Lisa (Ravencrow Neversmiles)

“Just hear those sleigh bells jingling, ring ting tingling along,
Let’s sing a jolly holiday non-denominational song.”

Oh hey there friends! Happy Life Day and Merry Chrismakwanzafestikkah to you! In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where did THAT Come From?

Dear diary… mood… apathetic…

It’s Act Two of the 2016 TSTO Holiday Event and we’re still stuck in this event all about paganism, returning Christmas items, and snow. EA sure took a strange turn for the event but regardless if you love it or hate it, there’s always more free stuff that comes with TSTO events. New stuff means this walking carpet has a job to do and it’s time for me to do just that. For this round of origins, we’ll be taking a look at Goth Lisa. This skin was available as the 4th prize for Act Two of the event for 38,850 brooches. But what the heck does this have to do with Christmas or Lisa? Let’s check out the Best. Show. Ever. to find out.

“Smart and Smarter” (S15:E13)

The long and short of this episode is that Maggie takes an IQ test at Miss Wickerbottom’s Nursery School administered by Simon Cowell and the result is that she actually could be smarter than her big sister. Like teach at Florida State smart. A 167 compared to Lisa’s 159. For obvious reasons, this causes all sorts of issues for one Lisa Simpson whose smarts are a big part of who she is.

Lisa isn’t quite sure who she is now that she’s not the smartest and courtesy of some advice from Marge, we find ourselves following Lisa as she searches for a new identity. Stand-up comedy is not so good for her but her second attempt is now officially in TSTO. I just love Milhouse asking if she’s an Oakland Raiders fan. Nope, she’s just Ravencrow Neversmiles and still not into Milhouse who is as eager to please as ever. Any nerd who’ll kiss a rock goddess for ya named Ironica is one loyal geek.

Lisa’s goth phase, while ever so brief, appears again in my second favorite Simpsons Christmas episode, “Holidays of Future Passed” (S23:E9). The beginning of the episode shows us a bunch of different Christmas pictures taken by the family over time and five pics in, the kids are older and Ravencrow makes a reappearance.

UPDATE: As NES Boy points out (courtesy of the wiki which I don’t like to use for these posts), Lisa also wore goth-ish clothes after dealing with the deaths of four of her fathers (Homer clones… watch the episode or better yet read a funny recap). I wouldn’t count this as Ravencrow but it’s certainly dark. I don’t blame her for the phase.

Lisa’s not the only character to have a goth makeover in an episode either. You may remember this costume from “Sky Police” (S26:E16) when the Holy Rollers used card counting to make money for the First Church of Springfield. There’s even some awkward romantical stuff between the Reverend and his wife (calling themselves Asphodel and Belladonna) later in the episode.

So there you go friends, the origin of Lisa’s momentary attempt at being a goth and why Milhouse fawns over her. Since it appeared in a Christmas episode, I guess it sort of makes sense appearing in a holiday event. I think this is a funny addition to the game. What do you think of it? Ever have a goth phase of your own? Sound off in the comments and happy tapping friends.

Wow. I really wish I had this one for Lisa. I started early 2017

  2. Goth Lisa / Ravencrow Neversmiles – I’ve been lol’ing with this character skin since obtaining it (FYI – I’m an old school punk / post punk deathrocker / UK Batcave since 1978 – so this character skin is right up my alley (lol) 😅😂

I only wish brooding teen angst Lisa (erm Ravencrow Neversmiles ) had other relevant tasks such as – reapply make up, dance at all ages club, listen to vinyl records, date androgenous goth boy, smoke clove cigarettes (lol – I doubt EA would offer up that last one) … there’s always Halloween 2017 to bring her back for further silliness 👍😂

    • I was a punker as a teenager and admittedly basically just a grown up one who looks normal now. Hung out with a lot of goth kids, back when they were much tougher. This skin makes me smile.

  3. There’s an appearance you missed in “Days of Future Future”. During the montage of Homer getting recklessly killed, there’s a bit where Homer #5 gets electrocuted by the toaster during breakfast. During this part, Lisa’s wearing her goth clothes. Here is a screencap of that scene.

  4. So Christmasy!
