Where Did THAT Come From – Baby New Year Grampa

Christmas is over, the Wookiee’s getting fat… time to put a penny in the fuzzball’s hat… (a penny for my thoughts I guess).

In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where Did THAT Come From?

So the holiday event is over but there’s still a few outliers I didn’t get around to covering. While I celebrated the New Year and Perihelion on January 3rd, I figured I could use a bit of free time to dish on the origin for the new task EA gave us in honor of 2017. I realize not every tapper is an avid fan and may not be familiar with everything in the Best. Show. Ever. so I figured I should do my due diligence and write about the task. Let’s head into the Best. Show. Ever. to find out why Grampa Simpson is dressed like Baby New Year, shall we?

“The Strong Arms of the Ma” (S14:E9)

Rainier Wolfcastle has a giant sale to earn money, Maggie fudges her huggies, and Marge becomes agoraphobic courtesy of a mugging. There’s much more about the episode you could read here since I did a WDTCF all about Marge in the episode but I there’s also the origin of Grampa’s new 4 hr task to “Celebrate New Year’s.” Homer attempts to help Marge’s fear of the outdoors by doing a play at home simulating the Kwik-E-Mart. Problem is he cast Milhouse as a robber which only upsets Marge further. Homer cancels the play and a diapered Grampa walks in. Too funny that Abe wasn’t a part of the play.

Who knows why Grampa dressed up as baby new year but who cares really when it’s so funny. The writers of the show must agree at its humor since it has shown up three more times. All you have to do is watch the very beginnings of “Politically Inept, With Homer Simpson” (S23:E10), “Married to the Blob” (S25:E10), and “Teenage Mutant Milk-Caused Hurdles” (S27:E11).

It’s a great way to ring in a new year for the show and now it is in the game in all its glory. What do you think of the new task? Did you remember these appearances? I think it is a hilarious addition and while I prefer baby Maggie, I’ll admit Grampa has been parading around in his costume a lot since the 1st. Sound off with your thoughts and Happy New Year friends.

TTFN… Wookiee out!

  1. Why is this task visible but locked in my Grandpa Simpson’s menu? I have collected nearly all there is to collect in game, have been level 939 for years. My New Years ball is in my town. Does it work only on New Year’s Eve?

  2. Wookiee, do you still think it’s the Best. Show. Ever.?
I still eagerly anticipate every episode but these days it’s more in hope than expectation.
I honestly don’t remember the last time I laughed at a Simpsons episode, it doesn’t even elicit too many wry grins any more.

It’s gone stale. There, I’ve said it! Am I alone in these thoughts?

    • I still find so much joy watching episodes. Seeing how I’ve included it in my life for so long, I’d say yes. Season 28 has been really good so I can’t join in on saying it’s stale. The latest episode had me hooting quite literally. As for the Best. Show. Ever. remark… I’m sure you know why I say that considering who my favorite Simpsons character is. Now there’s someone I’d like to see review every episode. Of course entertainment is subjective so your feelings are valid.

      • I’m glad you still love it, and I will look forward to the episode you laughed at and hope I do too. Being in the UK we haven’t seen it yet but now you’ve whetted my appetite 😀
I love CBG too, in fact I love most of the side characters but CBG is right up near the top.
The one character I’m falling out of love with is Homer. Sacrilege, I know. I just feel that so much is centred around him that I find myself starting to resent him a little. I find myself yearning for the days when Bart was the star…
I dearly hope my spark is reignited soon.

Thanks so much for all the work you do, I really appreciate the time and effort you all put in. This game gives me plenty of laughs which more than makes up for any slight disappointment with the show, and this blog plays such an enormous role in my enjoyment that I feel I owe you a great deal.

  3. Amusing outfit. I think I can remember that episode.
