Should I Spend Donuts On Fr. Sean, the Sponsored Church, First Church of Lard Lad or Satan’s Anvil?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

It’s Sunday Morning in Springfield! Gather up those religions because Homer wants to sample them all! Like a religious smorgasbord…as long as Homer can still have the bacon!  Of course it wouldn’t be an event in Springfield without premium items in our stores, just tempting us to spend sprinkles on them!

Of course with that limited-time label it can be tempting to buy everything that looks as awesome as this because it’ll be gone soon.  But don’t sweat it!  That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth those donuts and what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add the Fr. Sean, the Sponsored Church, First Church of Lard Lad or Satan’s Anvil your Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding these throwbacks to your Springfield…

Father Sean churchflipped_decorated_transimage first church of lard lad Satan's Anvil

Father sean rap

Character: Fr. Sean
Donut Cost:
135 Donuts, Rebate 35 Donuts…Net 100 Donuts
Previous Post(s): Should I Buy Fr. Sean
My Opinion On It Now: Seriously one of my favorite characters.  I own him, I love him.  100 donuts is a great price for Fr. Sean, since he’s usually a much higher stand alone (and was a royal PITA to get during Easter 2016).  If you’re looking for a new character and you can afford to get him, buy him.  Final Thought: Buy

churchflipped_decorated_transimage

Item: Sponsored Church (Facade for First Church of Springfield)
Donut Cost:
10 Donuts
Previous Post(s): Sponsored Church
Earns:
It’s a Facade for the Church, so it doesn’t earn additional income
My Opinion On It Now: Meh.  Even though it’s only 10 donuts, it’s a pass in my mind.  Final Thought: Pass

first church of lard lad

Item: First Church of Lard Lad
Donut Cost:
80 Donuts
Previous Post(s): First Church of Lard Lad; Design Ideas
Earns:
$135,15xp/4hrs
My Opinion On It Now:
Stand alone building (not a facade), originally from Halloween 2013 (free Community Prize).  Earns an ok income, but it’s not a unique building.  So if you’ve really wanted this one, grab it.  Otherwise pass, it’s just not worth the 80 Donuts.  Final Thought: Toss Up.

Satan's Anvil

Item: Satan’s Anvil
Donut Cost:
225 Donuts, 100 Donut Rebate, Net 125 donuts.
Previous Post(s): Should I Buy Satan’s Anvil
Earns:
5% on all cash and XP
My Opinion On It Now:
Once again, Meh.  125 Donuts is a much better price for it than the original 225 donuts, and it’s nice that they added the bonus % (which is good incentive for those who earned it for free during the original Stonecutters to take it out of inventory)…but it’s still massive.  And the 5% bonus doesn’t really cover the cost…you can buy 3 Police Cars for 120 Donuts and earn a 6% bonus from them. If it were me, I’d pass.  Final Thought: Let this one go.

And there you have it my friends, the breakdown on the returning premium items to hit our stores. What are your thoughts on the Fr. Sean, Sponsored Church, First Church of Lard Lad or Satan’s Anvil?  Do you own any of them already?  Will you be purchasing them this year?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. My church of lard lad has changed to a normal lard lad. Is this a glitch?

  2. Awww. I love the sponsored church facade. It reminds me of the Buddy Christ from “Dogma” when animated, so it makes me chuckle. Once the snow disappears, my Christmas decorations will disappear, and my sponsored church will be back on display full time. I did snatch up Fr. Sean. I’ve wanted him and his bike for a long time. Bless me, Father, for I have sinned. I have coveted my neighbor’s digital characters, decor, and buildings.

  3. I disagree. I have father Sean from the event but I wouldn’t have paid 100 donuts for him, I love the sponsored church however, makes it fit right in my casino/Vegas heights area. I would’ve gladly given up 10 sprinkles for it.
The church of Lard Lad looks cool but I already don’t have all regular Lard Lad donut buildings in my town, I’ve got 3 from mysterie boxes and that new one from the episode tie in. Too many donut shops to be spending this much donuts on. Everything is a pass IMO. Except Brother Faith, I have the powah!

  4. I’m strangely drawn to the First Church of Lard Lad. I have the other three Lard Lad buildings (the original, the new and the retro), and I think I would like to add the fourth to complete the set. It makes me wonder what the four would look like together, in a sort of Lard Lad World amusement park.

  5. I’ve always loved the Sponsored Church facade. I try to always have someone in their so that the big JC is waving. I’m guessing that Kearney’s relationship with his ex is much improved in my SF!

  6. I brought out Satan’s Anvil after I read about the xp jump…it works well behind the Hellementery in my THOH area…

  7. First Church of Lard Lad is such a weird building. I won it during Halloween 2013 and have never really been happy placing it next to the church as they look so disparate. Eventually I stuck it next to Lard Lad but didn’t feel it fit well there either! It’s one of those that I can never quite figure out the right place for.

  8. I don’t know if I’ll splurge and get Rabbi K. The 24 hour task looks very cool and I would definitely put into my central park 🙂

    (I probably will get him)

I’ve had the anvil since it first entered the game, but it has been in storage all this time. It’s huge! I only brought it out after they added the bonus %. If you don’t love it, & it wouldn’t improve the look of your town, I’d say pass if you ask me. Mine is hidden, I don’t care for it😊

    • I have to say, like my anvil, and I always have. I had it out for years, and only stored it in October (2016) because I needed the space for paying buildings. As soon as we got new land and I was able to expand my desert area, it was right back out again. So maybe a month in storage? The multiplier is like gravy. Bear in mind, a lot of things are languishing in my storage. The large aspirational buildings and the Homer Kong tower have been particularly difficult for me to place in any permanent way. So I do understand having trouble with something large like this, but I’ll argue that it can fit easily in a natural sort of area like a forest or desert where you’re not obstructing buildings you might prefer to showcase.
All that said, I don’t think I’d spend 125 donuts for it. I mean, I still haven’t bought Mt Carlmore even if it would probably go nicely in my desert. I’ll get it one day, though, once my freemium donuts start to pile up a little. I guess that’s the key; if you have a donut surplus, why not?

  10. Covered lard lad for years. Started game a few months after that event. My analysis. Probably not worth it but I want it.

    Bought it.

And … get the anvil out of storage. Thank you!!!

  11. What happenned?? It said the event quests were available until 18th January and today everyting disapeared… I still neededthe ladt building… Is it a glitch or what? Anyone knows?

  12. I had everything except Father Sean, so I bought him. Now I finally have all the playable characters from that Easter fiasco.

  13. This is why I love this site, how else in the world could I find out they added a bonus % to an item I stored waaaaay long ago… 5% added to my total! Thanks Alissa, keep up the awesome job!!!

  14. I need a donut spending strategy. I have a stockpile of donuts, but they only build up so fast as freemium. Not fast enough to buy everything that looks good, it’s hard to weigh which to get and which to pass on even with the SIB.

    • Here’s what I suggest as a strategy…

First, only buy things that bring you joy, or that offer a bonus multiplier as good, or better, than the jet engine bike (2% for 30 donuts), or that serves a useful purpose (like the Witch Marge skin, which allows her to speed up crops).

If you are able to play an event regularly (visiting your town every four hours at least three times a day), don’t ever buy something just because it helps with event currency. If you play that often (and you’re not at a very low level in the game), you should have no problem completing the even without it.

Also, when you’re thinking about buying something, don’t forget to factor in its size. Land is finite in this game, so you want to use it judiciously. So, for example, I was on the fence about getting the First Church of Lard Lad, and I had enough donuts to not worry to much about the expense, but I ended up deciding to pass because I didn’t like it enough to be willing to spend that much space on it?

Finally, characters are generally the best purchase, in terms of income, vs. buildings or, even worse, most decorations (unless it has a good bonus multiplier). Some people like to especially make sure they get all the children they can, because, in some past Halloween events, having a lot of children has been quite helpful. Most people also prefer voiced characters and characters with great animations and “classic” characters over others.

I hope this has at least given you some food for thought. A good rule of thumb is to ask yourself, ” Will I still like having this three months from now?”

      • It’s generally along the lines of how I’ve been going about things. It’s hard to weigh the opportunity costs. There are plenty of characters available at regular price in the store I’d like, but should I get one that’s a really good limited time deal instead. Usually it doesn’t matter as many characters and buildings get used for short time and forgotten, while others get used time and time again and are so worthwhile. Those are the ones I’d especially like to focus on, but that seems to need a crystal ball.

  15. Pulled my anvil out since it has a % bonus now.

  16. I already have all of those but If I hadn’t I definitely would get the Sponsored Church! I love it! Especially how the arm of Jesus moves when people are inside!
Still hoping to get Heck House sometime soon too…

  17. I’m really tempted to buy donuts just for First Church Of Lard Lad! I’ve always wanted this and felt jealous of others with it.

At least I have some time to decide…

    • FWIW, I always find that my First Church of Lard Lad always seems to be in the way. I have the regular Lard Lad out and have won others in mystery boxes that I just keep in storage. Even before the retro Lard Lad and the more futuristic one with the lightening and whatever came out, I disliked the First Church of Lard Lad because it just looks like a rundown Lard Lad and serves no particularly interesting purpose. Now with alll of the other Lard Lad iterations that you might have in your SF, I would suggest saving your donuts for something more interesting. That said, if you have a special place in your heart for all things Lard Lad or rundown looking or church-related, you should obviously do whatever works for you. For me, though, I always find this building unnecessary and irritating to work into stuff when I redesign things. I go back and forth between storing it and having it in my town.

  18. And I agree…I’ve had a hard time placing church of lard lad…never really use sponsored church, and Satan’s anvil I used in western area…it’s huge but works nicely with mt carlmore behind Springfield gorge

  19. Father Sean is a must….and the reason why is 1 word:

    MOTORCYCLE

    That is all.

  20. I have all of these from their previous events. I think I got them all for free during those. I love Father Sean and I enjoy the church facade living in an area full of churches this applies to.
The Anvil is too big and the Lard Lad is cute but why take up more space.

  21. First Church of Lard Lad was free for Halloween 2013? I never got one…:( Been playing since June 2012.

  22. I purchased Father Sean. He comes with a great quest line. I think he is the Best Buy of the premium items.

  23. I already own all of them from previous updates at 0 donuts minus Satans Anvil which I agree is meh (especially for that count of donuts) so I’ll be passing on that one.
