Where Did THAT Come From – Star Snowsuit Maggie

Christmas is over, the Wookiee’s getting fat… time to put a penny in the fuzzball’s hat… (a penny for my thoughts I guess).

In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where Did THAT Come From?

So the holiday event is over but my enthusiasm for certain items we got certainly isn’t. My favorite by far is Maggie’s snowsuit skin. This was the seventh personal prize that was available during Act Two of the 2016 “Holiday” Event and I love it. I realize not every tapper is an avid fan and may not be familiar with everything in the Best. Show. Ever. so I figured I should do my due diligence and write about the prize. It seems like a silly thing to be looking for in the show since Maggie’s star-shaped snowsuit is just one of those iconic things that is part of the snow-filled holidays but I figured I needed to at least write a little something about it. The long and short of this skin is that when it gets cold, Maggie gets even more awesome (if that’s possible). Since EA gave us Maggie during Christmas 2015… it was only a matter of time before she bundled up properly in the game. I’m happy it didn’t take terribly long. It really should be no surprise that this skin showed up. It was teased during the 2015 Holiday Event when Maggie first showed up as the icon that appeared on everyone’s tapping devices.

This skin is just one of those natural progressions for beautiful Maggie Simpson. Sure we’ve seen her shoot Mr. Burns, decapitate Gnomes in the Homes, say a few words (my favorite is “Daddily Doodily” lol), and more. This snowsuit though is how we first met her right at the beginning of “Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire” (S1:E1). From there… you basically just watch a Simpsons episode with snow in it to find the ever present joy that is Maggie’s star-shaped snowsuit. I’m personally petitioning for one for our very own Baby Maggie (aka Riley). In fairness, the snowsuit is not in every snowy episode (I’m looking at you “Mr. Plow”) but it’s in a lot.

Now Maggie is in the game wearing her cute little outfit and I don’t know that I’ll be having her look any other way. Since I don’t have the time to watch every Christmas or snow-filled episode for this round of origins… I figured I could just show a bunch of different images from the following episodes to prove my point. While not a comprehensive list of all the appearances, seven seemed like a good number as time is a precious commodity. Exhibit A) “Marge Be Not Proud” (S7:E11). I chose this mainly because I wanted to re-watch its amazingness and remembered the suit from a previous WDTCF. The point on the top of the head is unmistakable and shows the suit when it’s not all spread out. There’s actually plenty of appearances where Maggie isn’t all spread out but the suit’s hood looks like the same suit. This is the only one I chose to point out.

Exhibit B) “Mountain of Madness” (S8:E12) and we head to Mt. Useful and Homer’s work retreat that he naively brought his family to. While Homer gets buried alive in the snow with his boss, the family heads to the ranger station. A bunch of hilarity ensues and this episode is completely worth a watch. Maggie looks cute as ever as “a self-luminous gaseous spheroidal celestial body of great mass which produces energy by means of nuclear fusion reactions.” Thank you Merriam-Webster!

Exhibit C) You know, nothing says Christmas like Homer messing up the lights on the house and Maggie rocking the suit I love. We need look no further than “Miracle on Evergreen Terrace” (S9:E10) for this. Also Bart burning down the tree and examples of holiday charity and then the opposite too.

Exhibit D) “She of Little Faith” (S13:E6) – I said it previously that I don’t really think of this episode as a Christmas episode but it really is a good one, especially for anyone curious about the beginnings of Lisa’s Buddhist faith. The end of the episode has a supremely sweet moment between Lisa and her sister. It should come as no surprise that Lisa leaving the Christianity train wasn’t greeted with the excitement of say, children on Platform 9 ¾, but sometimes just getting a hug from a sibling and celebrating holidays whether you believe in them or not can make things better. I also like this since it is one of the few times we see Maggie rocking the suit indoors.

Exhibit D) I chose “Dude, Where’s My Ranch” (S14:E18) mainly because the beginning with our favorite family Chirstmas caroling makes me smile especially when they visit Krusty and his dad. I find this appearance so appropriate considering it connects two new items this winter-time. We also learn from this sequence that Disney owns A Flat and G Natural.

Exhibit F) You know something is reaching iconic status when it persists throughout a show and basically is how you think of a character during the winter. In a much more recent episode, namely “I Won’t Be Home for Christmas” (S26:E9), Maggie is rocking a white version of her snowsuit. It probably made its first appearance in Alissa’s favorite Gil episode but wasn’t spread out. This is it in its full glory.

And lastly, Exhibit G, “The Nightmare After Krustmas” (S28:E10). Yup… in the most recent snow-filled episode of the show, Maggie is right there at the Pagan Winter Festival rocking her gorgeous orange snowsuit. I actually hooted with joy when I saw it. It’s a paler orange than I’m used to but this was a paler Christmas episode so it makes sense. Me thinks this appearance probably brought about the arrival of this skin in the game more than an appreciation of the history behind it but however it happened, I’m stoked. Also gave me an excuse to show an image of the Strandbeest so it’s a double win for this fuzzball.

So there you go… Maggie’s new snowsuit in seven (actually eight if you were truly counting) episodes. Got an appearance I didn’t mention that you particularly like? Did you earn the skin?
