From the Mouths of Addicts: Gil Deals: Deal or No Deal?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Welcome to another edition of From the Mouths of Addicts, where YOU get to sound off on anything and everything in the world of Tapped Out!  This week’s post comes to us from one of our more colorful commentors, DaPimp! (in case you didn’t know Pimp also runs our Kingdoms Addicts Forum, for the Disney Magic Kingdoms game)

DaPimp thought it would be fun to take a look back at all of the Gil deals in TSTO history and ask the readers of Addicts “Deal, or No Deal?”

So enjoy Pimp’s breakdown of the deals and be sure to vote on each option, and as always don’t forget to give us your take in the comments below 🙂 -Alissa

Hey, TSTO Addicts! Your friendly neighborino DaPimp here. I thought it would be fun to take a look back at all the great “deals” that Gil Gunderson has presented to us in Tapped Out over the years. I compiled a list of deals in order of which they came into the game starting with the 1st Gil deal during the Christmas 2012 event. You might notice that you didn’t start playing until a certain point down the list, so you may not have got some of these deals from early in the game’s history.

Gil likes to show up periodically with an enticing offer, and attempt to get you to spend either real money on donuts, or those pink sprinkled donuts themselves on special items or item bundles. Some of these “deals” offer rebates where you get donuts back, and are a great time to buy certain items for a lower price. Some of these “deals” are high priced limited time items, but Gil works on commission so he is there to milk you for as much as he possibly can… and if he does, ol’ Gil is eating tonight!

Did YOU purchase any of these Gil Deals?

TSTOGil 1

Chrismas Special:  December 19th-22nd, 2012

TSTO Gil 2

Day-Old Donut Offer: December 23rd-28th, 2012

TSTOGil 3

A Sign and Doom: January 11th-14th, 2013
Ol’ Gil was back in January of 2013 with, perhaps his best, offer…The Volcano Lair (and Hank Scorpio) with the Springfield Sign for only 250 Donuts!  Normal price on those two combined would have set you back 370 donuts!

TSTO Gil 4

Nerd Farm (Called The Science Fund for some Tappers): February 22nd-25th, 2013
Gil was back in February peddling a new deal….Frink’s Lab and a Homer Buddha for 250 donuts and if you acted immediately he threw in an extra $50,000!

TSTOGil 5

Day Old Donuts: May 24th-27th, 2013
Gil was back again after Whacking Day with a new donut offer!  This time Gil was offering 25% off all donuts purchased, because “They don’t taste good, but they purchase premium content just fine.”

WOW! That is a whole lot of Gil Gunderson, and his amazing “deals” over the years! I certainly passed on, and purchased my fair share of them. I expect to see a lot of “No” answers on some of those, but it should be interesting to see which deals most Addicts just couldn’t pass up. I know everybody loves Black Friday! What deal would you buy right now if it was in the game? Are there any of these that you passed up before but would get now that you have a bigger stash of Donuts saved up? What was the best Gil deal you ever purchased? Did you ever make a purchase because the dialog made you feel guilty about ol’ Gil always being down on his luck? How many Donuts are you willing to spend to have Gil himself as a character? Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

Thanks again Pimp for a fun look back at all the times Gil’s come to bug visit us!  As always we love hearing from you guys…so if you have an opinion or take on something going on in the game (or something that should be going on in the game), please send it along to us TSTOAddictsblog@gmail.com…

  1. Too bad I did not get the pagan one, it was in my birthday before I started playing

  2. Lenroy Jenkins

I just discovered this post and am glad to see many of these deals have returned at heavily discounted rates. I can’t remember if I was playing back in 2012 or just after the first Gil Deal and only in late 2016 did I switch my play style to Farmium, so I’m glad to pick some of these up discounted although I still can’t KEM farm enough to buy everything! Give me another year or so lol…

  3. Also you forgot:
    1.Nicson and hotel.
    2.Dark knight.
    3.Teodore Roosevelt and National park.
    4.Giant snowball
    5.Central office of Kweeke- Mart

  4. He is so poor man.
I think that Gil as a character would cost 100- 150 donuts.
You should update this page: after Jay G was Mother sugar on Valentyne and Hell Fish durun the Rommelwood.

  5. Blinky. I wish I would have gotten Blinky.

  6. Interesting (and kinda heartening) to see that, at least at this point in the tally, the Pride deal has the highest “Deal!” percentage. 🙂

  7. Are you going to post the results at some point? I’m interested in knowing which were the most and least popular. I usually say no to Gil but was surprised by the number I did buy.

    • You can just click results and you should see them. If I have time, eventually I’ll break them down. But with this event it’ll be awhile.

  8. I started playing this game around Christmas 2015, so I missed out on a lot of good deals. I am very grateful, however, to have accepted the Duff Gardens deal as soon as he offered it because I simply could not resist having it in my town. I had no idea until later on that the deal disappeared for many people who said no.

What’s funny though is that I don’t remember getting a couple of these deals post-2015. For example, Donut Day… I’m fairly certain I bought the donut shop and the tray of donuts individually from the store. I definitely remember mourning over not being able to afford the donut boat, but I certainly wouldn’t have accepted the Golden Scratch-R’s so it coukdnt have been a Gil deal.

I also have no memory of the Kickback deals. If I received that offer I would have definitely bought that interesting-looking building. After I heard about the Duff Gardens glitch I made sure to say yes to all of Gil’s deals (well… except the Yard Work Simulator. That one seemed lame.)

  9. I never had an issue with “Gil Deals”. If you want it, pony up. If not don’t buy it. It’s optional.

  10. I think they should get rid of Gil Deals and just make Gil a regular character. He never really offers “deals” anymore, just new premium items. They could just put “deals” as regular limited time items in the store and rebates on permanent items like they have in the past with Barney or other characters. It’s time for Gil to appear all the time. They could always program dialogue and a 6s task to the Gil character if they wanted to emphasize something in the store.

    • Great idea! I love the Gil character, he’s been part of quite a few fun story lines over the years on the show and he makes more sense as a permanent character than some of the other characters that were offered so far. And using him to get your attention occasionally would certainly be possible… EA: if you’re listening/reading: give this guy’s idea serious consideration! 😎

  11. Off-topic…..New Event is on the servers, not yet in stores.

  12. I think the Otto deal was the first time I’d ever spent donuts, even though I’d been playing for over a year at that point.

    • Yeah, I think it was Otto that convinced me that I should keep a reserve amount of donuts I try not to go below…so I can pick up things as they come along.
WOW, I have been at this waaaay to long.

  13. Ah the early days when Gil actually offered a deal instead of just of being a cynical ploy on limited time items. When Gil showed up it was exciting! Now I rarely care cause he will be flogging something that you can buy a few months later for the same price or cheaper in some cases!

Now you tend to get good deals with Gil rarely attached!

  14. Sorry, off topic…wanted to let my neighbors know that I haven’t forgotten them…just waiting on the update to visit everybody…sooooon, please…

  15. I have very rarely spent donuts on Gil’s deals — I think about two or three times. But one slightly more interesting nugget to me is that the survey responses thus far seem to suggest that a high percentage of the TSTOAddicts readership have been playing since about early to mid-2014; not quite so many people have been addicts from the very beginning. (I’ve only been playing since late 2014, myself.)

  16. I would have bought all. It is no deal for me when I don’t have the donuts. I did buy the snow globe deal, which is one of my most expensive items.
