[Cue the dramatic John Williams music]
In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where Did THAT Come From?
So EA decided it’s time for all of us to go around the world or at least to France, Japan, and Brazil in a there’s lots of new stuff for Springfield tourism sort of way that also included a legitimate airport. This walking carpet is super stoked so far. Of course, with new events and a preponderance of items comes my perpetual task of diving into the Best. Show. Ever. and pointing out just where everything comes from in the show. For this round of origins, we’ll be looking at Indiana Jones, errr, I mean Uncle Norbert “Zack” Van Houten.
“Little Orphan Millie” (S19:E6)
Milhouse’s parents are lost at sea on a honeymoon cruise after getting remarried (a “holy undivorcing”).
What initially was a source of excitement for Milhouse ends up being something which turns him into a brooding melancholy pre-teen. Milhouse resolves to stop acting like a baby (no more moo moo from babas)… now he’s a cool loner… from a comic figure to a tragic one.
As a result, Milhouse is cool all of a sudden. Bart isn’t terribly stoked with losing status so he resolves to make his best friend happy again by finding family for him. Bart calls Solvang, CA to find one of his family members and ends up getting his Uncle Norbert Van Houten to come and pay his nephew a visit. Surprisingly, Norbert, who everyone calls Zack, is one cool Indiana Jones-looking guy. It must be because he’s a Danish Van Houten… not a Dutch one.
He may be one cool mamma jamma who flies a biplane but he’s not above hugs. When Millie isn’t in to it and states he’s okay being alone… Uncle Norbert uses his trusty whip to get one from his nephew.
Not as cool as disarming an assailant but the hugging results in Milhouse becoming even cooler in the eyes of his peers. And what do you do when you hang out with your super cool Danish uncle who looks like an iconic “Professor of Archaeology, expert on the occult, and how does one say it… obtainer of rare antiquities?” Fly in his biplane, hope there’s not a giant snake in the front seat, and then blow it up so the next scene makes sense.
Now Milhouse is off to go live with his uncle in Solvang. You may remember another origin post I did showing the hot air balloon they were set to leave in which is also in the game. Bart doesn’t want to lose his best friend so he grabs onto the balloon’s anchor rope. They’re off for a trip around the world.
As a bonus… they find Kirk and LuAnn and we get to see Norbert fight Kirk. Oh the age old Dutch vs Dane rivalry as exhibited by Van Houten men. Good times.
And that’s that friends. The origin for Uncle Norbert Van Houten and an expression of my love for Doctor Henry “Indiana” Jones, Jr. You don’t call him Indy! What do you think of the new character? I’m happy EA didn’t choose poorly this event and brought us a cool way to do daily tasks. Did you remember the episode? Like Indiana Jones? Norbert is really starting to tick me off. On the 4 hour mission, he flies his Bi-plane around. Too many times I’m tapping something else, then he flies in, (even from the other side of the screen), some how I tap him (though I didn’t), and I am once again whisked back over to the airport. I didn’t tap him, I don’t want to go the airport, he (to blame a character) needs to knock it off!
My GF has Norberts plane and is typically a bit behind me as far as game progress. How do I unlock his plane? Couldn’t find a link. Thx!

He’ll become a playable character later. Just keep playing.
I had expected, he would leave Springfield with one of my balloons after this event.
I have a question on the flu. I have not been able to figure out what to do to open the next one. I’m showing 0 out of what ever? what do you do?

Thanks Wookiee 😊 I love having him in the game, & this event in general 😁 Indiana Jones has always been one of my fav characters, I named my dog (sadly gone), Indy after him 💕

Mods, why do you think EA skipped President’s Day this year? I was hoping that they would perhaps offer President JFK’S, or perhaps a rebate on Lincoln because I seem to have missed him….
They do the Presidents for 4th of July so don’t give up hope for the return of past offerings and new ones.
One of the best episodes post season 10
I just watched the episode a few weeks ago and I thought it was a pretty good episode that was made past season nine.
Does Norbert eventually become a permanent character? At the moment when you tap on him, you are just sent off to the airport. It would be cool if he was given a biplane to fly over Springfield occasionally
Seeing as he is under the Van Houtens collection I’m assuming that he will be sticking around after the event. I’m hoping he’s a gift vs. having to buy him.
