From the World of Groening: Homer at Bat and Futurama?!

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Taking a break from the Around the World Event to bring you some news from the World of Matt Groening.  In this case news from two of his most iconic shows…The Simpsons and Futurama…groening-news

First up, let’s start with some Simpsons news…

This past Monday (February 20th), was the 25th anniversary of the debut of “Homer at Bat” (S3 E17)….the epic episode where Homer makes the “Wonder Bat”,  featuring baseball legends: Ozzie Smith, Wade Boggs, Darryl Strawberry, Don Mattingly, Steve Sax, Mike Scioscia, Roger Clemens, Jose Canseco & Ken Griffey Jr.  Seriously who can forget Ozzie Smith forever falling into Springfield’s Mystery Spot (snapping pictures all along the way) or Ken Griffey Jr hopped up on nerve tonic? (Gigantism anyone?)

Such a classic episode…

Anyone that has followed this blog knows two things for sure about me.  I LOVE baseball.  And “Homer at Bat” is my absolute favorite episode of The Simpsons ever.

Well, this May the Simpsons and baseball are coming together once again…as Homer J Simpson will be “inducted” into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown New York, as the Hall honors “Homer at Bat”!

Saturday, May 27th (from 9:30-11 am) the Hall of Fame will feature a Roundtable discussion with baseball legends (and Hall of Famers) Ozzie Smith and Wade Boggs…AND Al Jean, Mike Reiss and others who worked on the classic episode. How crazy awesome is that?!

The Baseball Hall of Fame is only about 3 and a half hrs from here and it’s an important place for my husband and I, it’s where we got engaged. So I’m hoping we’ll be able to make the trip up to attend the Round Table!  Of course if we do I’ll be sharing photos/details with you guys.

Next up…some very exciting news from the world of Futurama!

Finally, a Futurama “city builder” mobile game is coming!

fut_promo-1

Just announced yesterday, TinyCo (yes, the makers of the Family Guy mobile game) have teamed up with FOX and Matt Groening, to create a mobile game (in the style of TSTO and Family Guy) all about Futurama!

Straight from the mouth of TinyCo, the Worlds of Tomorrow game will feature writing from the show’s original writers and TinyCo has been working with the original animators on Futurama (Rough Draft Studios).  AND both Matt Groening and David X .Cohen have been busy creating content for the new game!

This should be epic!

Both Groening and Cohen have weighed in on the new game:

“I love this game because it feels just like Futurama,” said Matt Groening, creator and Executive Producer of Futurama and The Simpsons. “Except now you get to jab the characters in the face.”

“Futurama is back, bigger and better than ever!  Or possibly smaller and equally good. But either way, it’s back!” said David X. Cohen, co-developer with Matt Groening and Executive Producer of Futurama. “We’ve got completely new stories from the original writers, cast, and animators. This is the real Futurama deal.”

Rumor has it, they’re looking to release the game this summer….but no official date has been set yet.

For more info check out: www.youwillplayfuturama.com or the Facebook/Twitter page for Worlds of Tomorrow @playfuturama

And you can sign up via the Play Store (on Android) to get the game as soon as it’s available.  Just search Futurama Worlds of Tomorrow in the Play Store…

  1. Man, TinyCo is the worst. I was excited about a Futurama game, but seeing that TinyCo will be behind it, that’s a non-starter. I wasted enough hours, money, frustration, and aggravation on the Family Guy game.

  2. Yyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeesssssssssssssss!!!!!

  3. I was excited until I saw the comments about TinyCo. Makes you appreciate what we have with EA and tsto.

  4. Futurama ELATED. Tiny Co DEFLATED. I’ll wait for feedback from this community before I decide to d/l. If Addicts set up a blog for the game I’ll 100% follow it, even if I don’t bother with the game. FGQFS is more than enough Tiny Co for me. Their money grabbing antics have ensured that I will never, ever in a million years spend a dime on that game. TSTO & DMK will always come first….💜X

  5. Homer at the bat was shown in the UK this morning (Sat 25 Feb @ 11.00am😎….💜X

  6. If the futurama game is like TSTO than I’m excited!! But I deleted the family guy game. I didn’t like it very much. So I hope it’s not like that one…

  7. Will definitely try the Futurama game. Like many, wish it was EA.

The HoF connection is really cool! I love baseball. Loved that episode. And FYI- I actually designed the “Homer at Bat” figure set you have pictured in the post. I worked on many Simpsons toys for Playmates Toys and that set was one of them 🙂

By the way – Great site and very helpful!

  8. I’m excited about the concept of a Futurama game, but disappointed in the choice of TinyCo making it. They ruined the Family Guy game for me, which I played initially from Day 1, by adding ridiculous character “levels” (which were meaningless) and ranked up based on tasks. Completing their events was also ridiculous to do without spending money. The first event with King Butt I spent an inordinate amount of time (hours a day) in the game tapping zombies and maximizing playtime, halfway through the event bought an item that gave currency with $$, and STILL didn’t get him. Then the next event I spent ungodly time playing and got it so super fast I was taken aback. Then during the Super Hero event I struggled as much as with King Butt’s event. Their events are incredibly unbalanced. I just quit.

Hopefully they learned from their mistakes and Futurama takes a token from EA…

  9. Can’t comment… must go… search futurama…

  10. So cool! I may have to take the trip up to the HoF this year!

  11. I’m excited about playing Futurama soon it’ll be fun and be like the TV show with characters, tie-ins, buildings, game-humour etc. I bet Addicts will do a ‘Futurama Addicts website’. I remember Homer at the Bat it’s a funny episode like when Bart’s picking his friends and Ralph is choosing the All-stars.

  12. I’ll try the Futurama game, but I wish it wasn’t TinyCo. I don’t play the Family Guy game any more as it is over complicated poorly designed and they want a lot of my money. They also had a game (a couple of years ago) called Tiny Chef which they stopped supporting without warning.

  13. I concur with a lot of others. it is sad that TinyCo got Futurama. I played Family guy for a long time before breaking the habit of complaining about not being able to complete the standard quests. oh well. I will give in for at least the beginning.

  14. Oh Yessss Nooooo?? I feel conflicted the people that created family guy the quest for stuff is making Futurama game? IMHO Family Guy game was awful. Hopefully they can pull it off to bad it wan’t EA that got it.

  15. Terrible news that TinyCo are in charge of it. I do play Family Guy but it is very much “pay to win” and the randomness of everything is a huge pain in the bum – even after 24 hour tasks you still only have a “chance” to get something, which often means you have to do the task over and over for days on end until you either fail, somehow win, or spend clams (their premium currency).

But besides the general gameplay, TinyCo are worlds apart from EA in terms of technical skill – the land in Family Guy is pathetically small compared to Tapped Out, so eventually half of your stuff either ends up cluttering the town or stuck in inventory.

  16. Tinyco does have good games, but family guy game keeps crashing I and is very laggy. Besides as I play avengers academy aswell I see similar functions in multiple of their games. So I’m really hoping we get something a little different.

Since the futurama tea! Is working with tinyco I hope they make the game really better than family guy. Less laggy, less money grab and more fun to play. Like small breaks between content etc…

  17. Futurama game app?
    (I better exercise my tapping finger(s) 👍😀😅

    • There is a Candy Crush like Futurama already.
      I HATE Candy Crush!

      • Josephine Kick@$$

I had a bunch of friends IRL that kept sending me invites to play CC a few years ago… I tried it, but if recall correctly once you achieved a certain level, you had to dole out $ to continue.

  18. I’ll give it a shot but probably won’t stick with it. I played Family Guy for a very, very brief time. I never got far enough to spend more than a buck or two on it. I didn’t stop because of Tinyco, I just always Tapped Out first and by the time I was done I was no longer in the mood to play games. In my 20’s my playstation controller was glued almost every waking moment. No that I’m twice that old my interest in gaming is still there but two hours max before I need a break.
I even tried to play Super Mario Bros recently. I used to win that thing in a couple of hours losing only a life or two. I got as far as the hammer bros and after dying about 30 times I just gave up

    • I recently played Mario Color Splash, my first Mario Bros. game. So much fun, and the paper aesthetic is very cool! It took several weeks to finish, but I enjoyed it.

  19. Futurama!! Futurama!! FUTURAMA!!

  20. Too bad EA isn’t in charge of the Futurama game. I used to play The Family Guy game and it would constantly crash. The worst was sending a character on a 12hr quest and getting nothing in return. Tiny Co is really bad at mobile gaming.

  21. Horrible news today hear TinyCo got the Futurama city building contract.
I did start to play FamilyGuy (and even left the Simpsons for a while & was only a family Guy person)
Then I got upset & frustrated with QuestForStuff because that’s all that game became, is a junk collecting game.

  22. I work for MLB Advanced Media, so the Homer at Bat news was totally my worlds colliding. I may see if I can get assigned to work on that story during HoF weekend.

  23. I’m excited about the futurama game, love the show almost as much as the simpsons. hope it lands on kindle soon after release

  24. I travelled to Cooperstown (from CA) back in 2007 to see the induction of my hero, Tony Gwynn (Cal Ripken, Jr. was also inducted that year). It was a very good time, though insanely crowded that year (record-breaking attendance). If another hero of mine, Trevor Hoffman gets inducted in a second attempt next year, maybe I’ll get to see the Simpson exhibit, then.

I pre-registered for the Futurama game. I liked the show, so will give the game a try.

    • A fellow San Diegan, I have to assume! Trevor being denied this time around was quite disappointing but fingers crossed he gets in this year! And what more can be said about Mr. Padre that hasn’t already been said? Legend of the game and a true class act. He is truly missed.

  25. Yes get in there we finally got futerama and I’m really miss the episodes since thy stopped at season 10

  26. As much as i love Futurama, tsto is enough for me and free time i have

  27. I haven’t been to the Hall of Fame in a few years. It’s one of my favorite places on earth…I’ve seriously considered retiring to the Cooperstown area (I too am in New Jersey). I’m thinking I may need to head up there this year….

  28. A Homer at the Bat event would be the greatest thing ever. Or have they already included a bunch of stuff from the episode?
