Should I Spend Donuts On Anger Watkins and the ESBN Sports Desk?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Episode tie-ins are back!  EA wasted no time in bringing us some new content, and this time it’s an episode tie-in for this Sunday’s upcoming “22 for 30″ episode of The Simpsons.  And of course all new update (no matter how small) means premium content in our stores to spend those sprinkles on!

Of course with that limited-time label it can be tempting to buy everything that looks awesome because it’ll be gone soon.  But don’t sweat it!  That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth those donuts and what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add Anger Watkins and the ESBN Sports Desk to your Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding this bottle throwing broadcaster to your Springfield…

Decoration/Building: ESBN Sports Desk
Character: Anger Watkins
Donut Price: 110 Dounts
Earns: 3% bonus on all cash and XP (desk)
Size: 3×4
Conform-O-Meter: Vanity +200

Leaves Stores March 15th

Pros
-Low donut price for character/item combo
-Full character, earns 50% more on all cash and XP
-Comes with a questline
-Hilarious animated tasks, one of which will use the Sports desk

Cons
-Not voiced.
-One off character for The Simpsons (although he appears to be modeled after ESPN personality Stephen A Smith)

Final Thought
Premium:
Premium players, who likely already own everyone else, anytime there’s a character building/item (that offers a bonus %) combo for 100-110 donuts you know I always tell you to grab it.  That’s a fantastic price for a character combo, and in this case the desk comes with a sweet 3% bonus, that you shouldn’t have to think twice about it.  Grab him.

Freemium:
Yes, this is a great price for the combo.  HOWEVER, with this update EA has brought back many other characters and offered rebates on them.  So personally, if you don’t already have them, I’d spend donuts on Mrs. Bouvier and/or Coach K first.  As those combos will put you at 95 donuts and 100 donuts (after the rebates), which is an even better price to pay for combos…especially ones where the characters are recurring Simpsons characters.
If you already have those, than this is a good buy.

Of course in the end it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would or wouldn’t do.  And I can tell you as a premium player, I’ve picked this combo up.  No idea where I’m going to put the desk yet, but I’ve got the combo. Just remember this is limited time, and will be leaving our stores next week.  So be sure to make your final decision before it’s gone from our games for good. (or for now..)

Here’s a look at Anger Watkins’ tasks…

Anger Watkins’ Permanent Tasks:

Task Length Earns Location
Look for a Decent Meal 1hr $105, 26xp Java Server
Apologize for Taking Things too Far 4hrs $260, 70xp Channel 6 Studios
Slam a Water Bottle 8hrs $420, 105xp Outdoor/Visual
Relax and Watch a Game 12hrs $600, 150xp Gridiron
Rage About Sports 24hrs $1,000, 225xp Outdoor/Visual (at ESBN desk)

What are your thoughts on Anger Watkins?  Will you be picking it up or have you already?  Where have you placed the desk in your Springfield? What were some of your reasons for picking it up or passing? Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. The old premium item _I_ want is the TentaCorp building – just because it looks so cool! I kick myself that I missed it whenever I see it in someone else’s town….

  2. This Character deserved to be voiced (it’s the ONLY reason I am passing on buying) ….. I’m sure he will be back at Discount (right EA?) 😅

  3. Would love to get Mrs. Bouvier, but you have to get Anger W. first. Bought coach and now am too low on donuts to get a character I should pass on just to get one I want and leave myself donut-less. As a freemium player, it takes too long to build them up. Is there a freemium donut-building system out there ?

  4. I almost always buy every new character and in this case it’s a good price and value but I hate the real life personality it’s based on so I gotta pass.

  5. Is the Gridiron the sports bar that was available as a prize from the Tapball event? If it is then I might get Watkins + the desk because of it, but a St. Patricks event might come next week with something good.

  6. Mrs. Bouvier is not for sale, at least not in my Springfield, I do see Krustys daughter though

  7. So if I understand this correctly, in order to get access to the Mrs. Bouvier deal, or the restaurants Dead Lobster/Swanky Fish, you need to buy Anger Watkins and play his premium questline? I have Mrs. Bouvier already, but didn’t see offers for the two restaurants and this would explain why.

  8. I got him immediately. It’s a bonus that he uses an unused building.

  9. Thanks for doing these! I agree that it is a good buy, but EA keeps throwing so much stuff at us at the same prices that I am having trouble keeping up. That’s $10-$15+ per item. I do want him though since I watch a lot of sports.

  10. Hmmmmm, tempting. You make a good sales pitch. I originally elected to pick up some of the decorations, and the basketball arena I didn’t have. I’d have to spring for a small donut pack to get him. I may wait to the episode airs to see if the character is a must-grab. Kinda got hoodwinked on Laird Lad. Although his building is really cool.

  11. A Character with a bonus% was what had me pick this one up. I’m almost at 100% bonus for $ & XP. Does anybody know if there is a limit to how much bonus % you can have? I’ve read that some tappers have 200% and over on bonus $ & XP.

    • There is a limit, But it is VERY high 2,000,000,000 (it is a signed 32 bit value)
One of my neighborenos has about 2,000 percent bonus. I am at almost 900.
So buying items which gives you bonus percentage is smart. They increase the amount of cash of cash paying items.

    • No limit. I’m over 500%, and I know of at least one tapper who’s over 1,000%.

      • Where can I find out what bonus percentage I’m at?

        • Tap your conform O meter stars

        • Well, to see your *visible* multiplier, which affects both cash and XP, just tap on the Conform-o-Meter stars. However, all of the first phase of Springfield Heights buildings (condos, mansions, parking garages, andoffice buildings) and the resort from the second phase, have hidden XP multipliers. If you buy all of them, it’s 150% extra multiplier, but for XP only.

    • Congrats on getting to 100%! In older posts, some tappers reported being at 600% bonus. I’m sitting at 300% for money but around 450% for XP based on the Springfield Heights buildings. Easiest way to tell the XP bonus is to tap on a building with 10XP and see how much XP you really get.

    • When you get to a certain point in the game, the bonus % purchases are more valuable than the income (property) purchases. Few properties generate more than $500 per day (without bonus%), while 3% of all basic income and job revenue for a day can easily go well over that.
If you have 200 characters generating an average (regular and premium) of $800/day and 200 properties bringing in $400/day, just that 3% will bring in an extra $7200/day. Even if you only have 50 characters and 50 properties, that 3% is worth $900/day…a good haul and better than any rent you can collect.
Obviously, without the properties, there is no income to multiply…but you will accrue wealth (and donuts) faster in the game by gaining percent rather than piling up properties that you have nowhere to put.

  12. I also have been waiting for Mrs. Bouvier/Piggly’s Super Smorg, since all items disappeared from my store with an unresolved with EA glitch at Thanksgiving. I would love to pick her up now, but she is not in my store this time either. I have no restaurants in my store and already have the others. The items in my store this time are all kind of “meh”, nothing too exciting. I don’t know why some people get things in their stores that others don’t. Doesn’t seem fair, as I need Mrs. Bouvier to complete the set, and I can’t seem to ever get her.

  13. Not really feeling this one. Probably more appealing to sports fans.

  14. I got him once I could figure out a way around my pet peeve…inside decorations that I have to place outside! But I decided his anchor desk could go next to the Japanese tv station in Effcot Center, like an outdoor performance stage.

I’m glad I did, too, because the questline dialog is very entertaining! 🙂

  15. Does Coach K come with the YMCA. And I don’t see Mrs Bouvier for sale? Where should I look for these characters?
    Thanks!

Angry Watkins was a no-brainer for me. I’ve had a chance to engineer a couple of radio broadcasts for the real-life Stephen A. Smith, who the character is based on. Nice guy- off the air, he’s actually very quiet! As soon as I saw this one, the only question became, do I put the desk outside an arena or the tap ball stadium?

  17. I don’t know the person he’s based off of so I’ll have to wait until Sunday to see if it was worth it.

  18. Thank you, Alissa! I’ve read elsewhere completing the questline for Anger Watkins unlocks Dead Lobster and Swanky Fish (for purchase with donuts). Do you know if this is true?

  19. I recently watched a rage-a-thon about Phil Jackson, so naturally, I bought this right away! Set it up in the parking lot of my stadium, college football style.

  20. He is so cranky that he is hilarious 😂
(He makes me think of a certain person here 😉)

  21. I don’t have Mrs. Bouvier / Piggly’s Super Smorg, but also can’t find them in the Store.

  22. As a semi freemium whose played for ~30+ months, and now have ~180 characters, including the two with rebates that you mentioned…..this is a buy. Just want to build my donuts up again.
Got to maintain adequate supply, never know what comes up tomorrow.

My current wish list in basic order:
Jesse Grass – recycling and DONUTS!!!!
    Disco Stu – Springfield Heights!!
Springfield Coliseum and Tatum – have had a skin that’s itching to be used
Apu’s Wife – completes the set
Sherri and Terri – completes the ser
Volcano Lair – complete the set
Dr. Nick – complete the set
Only need a couple of hundred more donuts, and I have an $10 iTunes card and a $10 quick thoughts voucher itching to be used…..

  23. I am on android maybe that has something to do with it

  24. Is Mrs. Bouvier her name in the town hall? if so I don’t have her and I can’t see her in the store.

  25. Samuraigeezer

IMO it’s sad that these episode tie in characters to episodes that haven’t even aired yet cost donuts. I like the “free” items, but why isn’t he in store for 2,5 million dollars instead? They can always charge us for things we can’t refuse.
