Two little “events” going on in Springfield right now. One is education…military education..inspired. And the other is seasonal, as today is St. Patrick’s Day. Of course any update (no matter how small) these days means premium content is back in our stores from events past, and often with a discounted price tag.
Of course with that limited-time label it can be tempting to buy everything that looks awesome because it’ll be gone soon. But don’t sweat it! That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth those donuts and what you might want to hold off on.
Wondering if you should add any of the Rommelwood or St. Patrick’s Day discounted or returning premium items to your Springfield? Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding this throwbacks to your Springfield…

Bonus %: .25 % Bonus on all cash and XP
My Current Opinion: It’s a flag. It’s 10 donuts. If you like it and really want it for your Springfield, buy it.
Decoration: Stack of Beer
Donut Cost: 35 Donuts
Bonus %: .75% on all cash and XP
My Opinion: Meh. Bonus % isn’t great for donuts spent. So unless you’ve got a desire for this in your Springfield (and donuts burning a hole in your pocket)..pass
Character/Decoration: Ulster Flag and Northern Irish Leprechaun
Donut Cost: 80 Donuts
Bonus %: .25% Bonus on all cash and XP
What Does the Leprechaun Do?: Like the other Leprechaun and Yupprechaun, when tapped he’ll give you money or XP and run away really fast.

I covered the Mystery Box in the rundown post this morning. It’s really up to you if you should take the chance. A lot is based on what you have in there…but 80 donuts is a good price for any one of the items in the box.

Only item that’s not returning content (well one component is). Duffman is always available in the store once unlocked, he’s just available for now with a discount.

Opinion on It Now: So, if you don’t have Duffman…BUY HIM! For 3 years in a row he’s been the Addicts reader favorite character combo…by a long shot! He’s hilarious, voiced and his thrusting dance moves are second to none! Buy him!
If you have Duffman and you’re offered Lady Duff, pass. Not a fan of Lady Duff, since it’s a skin for Duffman.

Opinion On It Now: Meh. Bonus % isn’t great for donuts spent. Unless you’re really gung ho for A-bombs…pass.

Bonus %: 2% bonus on all cash and XP
Bonus applies to original plastic prison (prize Superheroes 2).

My Opinion on it Now: Meh. Bonus % is better, but still a meh item. I’d pass.
Decoration: Obstacle Bundle
Donut Cost: 50 Donuts
My Opinion on it Now: Pass. Over priced. Offers no bonus % or cash payout. Unless you really need these to complete a design in your town, pass.
Decoration: Attack Helicopter
Donut Cost: 55 Donuts
Bonus %: 2.25% Bonus
Bonus applies to original attack helicopter (prize Superheroes 2).

My Opinion On It Now: If you like helicopters, go for it. Bonus % is decent for donuts spent. But it doesn’t do much, flies a little off the ground and comes back down. So if you’re not in the market for a new ‘copter, pass.
Building: Fort Sensible
Donut Cost: 65 Donuts
Earns: $175, 15xp/6hrs

My Opinion On It Now: Still not a big fan. I think there are better items to spend donuts on with this mini event, even with the rebate, so I’d pass.

Opinion on It Now: Meh. Greta isn’t as iconic as Duffman. While a 40 donut rebate is nice for her (since she’s way over priced to begin with), I still think she’s not the best pickup. Personally, although I own her, I’d pass.
And that my friends wraps up the details of all of the discounted/returning premium items for St. Paddy’s Day 2017 and Rommelwood Academy.

I already have the obstacles. I have made an obstacle bowling alles out of it, together with the Obstacle Truck.
Does the mystery box follow any logic? Like the item on the very left will be the one that you get? Or something the like?

Same here. Saw this morning that I still had plenty of time to buy him this evening (GMT+1), but when I browse the sore, he’s gone! 🙁
I think the St Patrick’s Mystery Box is decent (80 Donuts each time gets you something worthy) 👍
I think the Hanger 18 Building offers the best LOL out of what’s in the Store for a limited time (watch out for that Alien) 👾🚀
The rest truly is “meh” (even at discount) and still a bummer Fort Sensible has no Character Tasks
So….. Anyone know much about Sgt. Skinner with the tank? I am interested in it. Does the tank have % bonus (or shoot)? Is Sgt. Skinner a skin with a full set of quests?
Sgt. Skinner is a full character with tasks. He was originally available as a prize last Halloween.
Grabbed Greta for my A game. The discount was the tipping point. I try to grab female characters when I can because I feel like the game almost exclusively gives males as prizes during events, so I like to balance it out a little. I was never going to spend 180 on her, but 140? Considering I dropped 150 on Kumiko, didn’t seem so bad. Now just to build my donut stash back up before the next full event.
Does the obstacle bundle contain just one of each kind of obstacle? I’m pretty sure the answer is yes, but it would be great if someone who purchased it could confirm that for me.

I don’t know if it is mentioned in another post (I apologize if it is), but I never got Sgt. Skinner from the event he was a prize in (I think Sci-Fi) and he is being offered with the tank for 100 donuts.

Too bad Tom O’Flanagan’s Pub isn’t available this year. I want it for my B game. $1900 in-game cash for a nicely designed building and a character after doing the questline.

No mystery box for me. I kind of want some more obstacle course pieces but 50 is a lot with no bonus
Does Greta have a 1 hour job? Her original SIB does not list one, but it’s old and surely they added a 1 hour job when they added the Job Tasker to the Unemployment Center.
I’m impartial on Greta; but figure, if I’m ever gonna get her then now is the time because I for sure won’t ever spend 180 donuts on her. But her not having a 1 hour job would also be a big negative for me..
I’m pretty sure she does, because I think I would have noticed if she didn’t, but I can’t tell for sure because she’s on a task right now. I’ll try to ferment to check for you next time she’s free (if someone else doesn’t answer you conclusively first).

Thanks for the replies you two 🙂 Knowing she has a 1 hour, I decided to pick up her combo. 140 donuts for her is just so-so but 180 is a no-buy. I do like the design of the building though..
My A game had only 2 choices Notre Dame & Seamus or Duff arena. Luckily I got the building/character combo I wanted! (Still on the fence about the arena – I just don’t like the look of it!}
My B game had the 2 items above along with Blarney Castle & the Duff party boat. Least wanted was the party boat! I got the party boat! Was so hoping for Notre Dame!
I did the st Patricks update last night no problem but just now my game had another update and now it crashes every time I try to start it. Any one else having this happen?
Lady duff comes with the Duff party bus which has a good Multiplier (2.25) for 50 donuts. Seems like a good deal to me!

Just discovered that the Shamrock Topiaries and Leprechaun Statues are paying out huge XP upon placement. Didn’t really want a bunch of these, but free donuts are awesome.
The Green Beer Fountains pay the same XP:Cash ratio as the Topiaries (haven’t tried the Statues) BUT, you can sell the fountains back and CANNOT sell the Topiaries or Statues back, so they’re worthless to farm.
Just experimented…took 34 beer fountains to level up with xp.
$170,000 spent, so 17,000 xp at 1180% bonus(including SH hidden%) with 5 times increase from the collider …comes to 1,003,000 XP…which comes out right on the nose for a level up.
I think that this is about the same as the Rat Trap Trucks…$150,000 spent, so 15,000 xp at 1180% with 5 times increase from the collider = 885,000xp
(For every 10 trucks , I always get 8 or 9 tries for donuts..depending on my xp starting point)
Are green beer fountains a better earner than rat trap trucks? (I mean, being less expensive, they be slower, of course, but which has a better dollar-to-xp ratio?)
From my experiment the fountain, rat trap truck and blood mobile are all virtually the same so it makes the most sense to use the most expensive one since you will level up the fastest.
But you can’t sell them back.
I would like Duffman, but I have bought enough donuts this year already. I’m sure I’ll save up for him one day. 😛
I picked up Greta and Duff Man. Debating the Paddy day box and Waverly Hills. I don’t have any of the items in the mystery box, so might be worth at least one go at it.
Well i got two mystery boxes and nobe of what I wanted. Bummer! Might try again 2 more times to see if i can get the leprechaun and his wishing well. Been wanting it for two years now, i have the other two Irish short people! Hapy St Paddys Day. And im kinda Irish, my grandmother was half Irish!
Thanks to our recent small world event, I’m doing a huge remodel. I really wanted Blarney Castle and Notre Dame for my little Ireland. My first mystery box gave me Duff Arena (may try to work that into my newly expanded Duff Gardens mini golf course) and the 2nd got me Blarney Castle. I decided to stop there. I have a lot of churches as it is.
Apologies to my neighbors for my mess of a town right now, the small world project is a big undertaking.

Does anyone know any tricks to the mystery box? I know that there have been ones in the past (like one where you put the one you want on the very left?). I REALLY want the Well and Leprechaun and help would be much appreciated!

I too tried that “trick” in the past…doesn’t work. Only reason it seems like it does because most who post are happy while those that it didn’t post about it failing smashed their phone in rage and can’t. :p
Sadly, no… that’s doesn’t work. You might get what you want by doing that, but also you might not – it didn’t work for me.
Last time around it “seemed” to work twice in a row for me. The far left trick. Others say it doesn’t work so who knows. I’m going to try once for Shameus later today after I get a few more donuts.
Ok. I tried it again and this time it was a fail. I had shameus on the far left but I got the Shamrock cafe. I guess I was just really lucky those first two times.
