Where Did THAT Come From – Screamapillar Pond

In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where Did THAT Come From?

Wowza… the 2017 Secret Agent Simpsons Event is in full effect and we’re all busy collecting intel, crafting subversive surveillance items, and tapa-tapa-tapping secret agents and spies in a covert palooza all about Globex, the EPA, GHOST, and the CIA. It’s enough to make me want to watch Roger Moore, Sean Connery, Don Adams, and Rowan Atkinson on repeat. Hooray for new ideas in TSTO. Just like the xxth Bond movie, life lessons as an adult, or an intelligence collection mission, I’m sure a lot of us never saw this coming. Of course, with any new event, there’s always an inevitable tapping on my attic floor from Alissa to get started on writing about the origins for it all. It’s always a pleasure to re-watch episodes of the Best. Show. Ever. to do just that. For this round of origins, we’ll be taking a look at a the first prize for completing E.P.A. dossiers, the Screamapillar Pond.

“The Frying Game” (S13:E21)

Homer orders Marge a koi pond for their anniversary. He’s “a marriage super genius.” Marge loves her new “peaceful place to sit and hear her own thoughts.” Homer is her “sweet, wonderful man child” even if she’s secretly wondering how much moolah he spent on it.

Marge and Lisa enjoy the meditative quiet of the pond which is quickly interrupted by a screaming caterpillar.

Homer is ready to put the little thing out of its misery with Dr. Foot but not before on EPA agent appears to inform him this agonized member of the order Lepidoptera is actually an endangered species called a Screamapillar. Due to the Reversal of Freedoms Act of 1994, Homer is now responsible for taking care of the insect. Uh oh. Can’t be good that it needs constant reassurance so it won’t die and is sexually attracted to fire.

Bring on the tedious task of caring for an anguished legger and Homer accidentally crushing the awful bug during story time. Of course the EPA is going to show up when Homer is trying to cover up his crime. Gotta love him just digging a hole next to the pond and the EPA showing up.

Homer gets punished for his “attempted insecticide and aggravated buggery” and is sentenced to 200 hours of community service which leads to Homer delivering meals on wheels and meeting an octogenarian, Mrs. Mryna Bellamy, which results in Homer helping her with household chores and him and Marge basically becoming her servants. It’s pretty funny and gets even more complicated as the episode goes on. Some might say the episode is killer. Wowza… EPA showing up in an episode as well a murder mystery and Homer being sentenced to the electric chair while the screamapillar laughs in the witness section next to President George H. W. Bush.

Seems like whenever the Environmental Protection Agency shows up in Springfield… it never goes well. Have no fears though… we all know Homer is alive and well in the next episode and I won’t ruin the ending which includes Carmen Electra. What do you think of the first dossier prize? Did you earn it? Remember the episode? If not, surprised that the EPA was in the show before being the big bad of the Simpsons movie? Sound off in the comments and happy spying and tapping friends.

TTFN… Wookiee out!

  1. One of my favorite episodes, mostly because of the Screamapillar – I also make him scream at my wife!

My favorite line is Homer’s “Dr. Foot” one. Many a spider in my household has gotten a referral to see him…

  6. Love this thing. This morning I told my wife, “I have only one thing I want to say to you.” I then turned the volume up to full blast and tapped the screamapillar. She cracked up (she plays too). Brownie points 🙂

  7. “Then why don’t I hear any sleep screams?”
    My favorite line.
