Should I Spend Donuts on the Historical Society and Hollis Hurlbut ?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Time to grab toast as we travel back…wayyyy back…in time with Homer in the all new TTT (Time Travel Toaster) event!  Homer’s taken us back to the Prehistoric Era and we’ve got Dinosaurs, Cavemen & of course other Prehistoric items in our Springfield just tempting us with those sprinkles!

Of course with that limited-time label it can be tempting to buy everything that looks awesome because it’ll be gone soon.  But don’t sweat it!  That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth those donuts and what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add Hollis Hurlbut and the Springfield Historical Society  to your Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding this alternative facts historian to your town…

Character: Hollis Hurlbut
Building/Decoration: Springfield Historical Society
Donut Cost: 150 Donuts
Earns: 270, 15xp/4hrs, also 1,445  when placed
Size:
7×10
Conform-O-Meter:
Vanity +200
Other Info:
Can be placed on the Grass/Dirt/Pavement/Boardwalk/Pier or Beach.   You’ll earn the  when you place the Building.

Leaves stores July 5th

Pros
-Building earns more crafting currency every 4hrs, could come in handy if you feel you want a lot of the craftable items
-Unique character for Springfield and comes with his own questline
-Funny outdoor tasks

Cons
-Not voiced
-150 donuts for a one off character/building combo is a little pricey IMO (although I know many of you will point out to me that this seems to be the new price…still pricey IMO)
-Hollis Hurlbut does not do anything to help with the event, no Shovels, No Fossils nothing.  The building earns the currency but he does nothing..

Final Thought
Premium
While I feel 150 donuts is pricey for a Character/Building Combo that’s not a regular part of the show…I am a fan of this one.  I like that the building helps with crafting and I like that it’s a new character for Springfield.  So if you’re a fan of the combo pick it up…it’s still cheaper than Tatum…

Freemium
Freemium players, if you feel like you’ll fall behind on crafting currency..and you think you’ll be able to clear this every 4hrs 4-5 times/day…you may want to pick this up.  It’s nice that it helps with crafting (which many players struggle with) and comes with a character.
However, if you don’t usually have issues with crafting I’d pass on this combo and save your donuts for one of the vault character/building combos.  More beloved in Springfield and at a lower price…

Of course in the end it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would or wouldn’t do…and as I premium player I can tell you I picked him up (almost immediately).   But whatever you decide, just make sure you make your final decision before he leaves our games for good (or for now).  And this is one of those items that helps with the event, so the sooner you pick it up the better (if you’re planning to).

Here’s a look at his tasks…

Hollis Hurlbut’s Permanent Tasks:

Task Length  Earns Location
Commune with History 1hr $105, 26xp Outside/Visual
Study Ancient Dogs 4hrs $260, 70xp Kwik-E-Mart
Play the Fife 8hrs $420, 105xp Outside/Visual
Wait for Visitors 12hrs $600, 150xp Springfield Historical Society
Rewrite History 24hrs $1,000, 225xp Springfield Historical Society

What are your thoughts on Hollis and the Historical Society? Will you be spending the donuts to bring them to your Springfield?  Why or why not? Where have you placed the Historical Society in your Springfield? Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. thanks for the write up. i’m freemium and at 150 donuts exactly (as of this post) and was certainly contemplating him but i actually think i will pass and stick with my gut (mr. largo). i love the episode and donald sutherlands performance/character but i dunno…i probably should pick him up since he’s (at this point) an event exclusive but maybe he’ll return at some time.

  2. Hahaha! Classic character and Donald Sutherland appearance. “My microwave Johnny cakes are ready!” I picked it up and added it to a section with Maison Derrière, Springfield Orphanage, Spooky house, Nightmare House, Mideival Rich House & Wholesome and Son Publishing. Cobblestone streets and old lamp posts make it a neat little historic district with some dilapidated and some nice old buildings. Event currency help is a bonus. I’m really more drawn to golden era characters & buildings than a lot of this non-canon stuff that EA is pushing. I really wish we could get Bleddiing Gums Murphy, Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz.

    • Boy – your vault was better than mine! I really want Maison Derriere. I hope that everyone eventually all gets the same opportunities (minus the ones we already have, of course).

I liked the whole deal, extra character, building looks great, & earns event currency 😊

  4. I bought this as early as I could. I loved the episode, character and building. I have a section of Springfield with older houses – La Maison Derrière, Medieval
Rich House, Sideshow Bob’s house, Burns’ Summer House and the blue and white mansions, etc. – which I love. It’s next to some of the gothic ruins. The Historical Preservation Society fits in well. In real life I like neighbourhoods with long histories that feature buildings from different periods and that’s what I’m trying to go for.

  5. I need doughnuts

  6. I bought it. I’m not sure why. I think I just like the look of the building.

  7. Thanks for this info 😊 I would like to get him BUT am hoping I get Dr Nick in my vault at rebate 🤞I’m short on 🍩 anyway at the moment. Good to know I’ve got until 5th July to make a decision 😊 So appreciative of this site and all the hard work that goes into it, thank you, thank you, 😊🇬🇧

  8. Alwaysbesurfing

    Instant buy. Classic episode.

  9. I’ll have to wait for future items. Too pricey IMO and if I get one more thing, I think I will get the Jungle or Waterslide Tree.

  10. 1…where’s the fife? 2…gimme the fife.

  11. I have no earthly idea where I would put this building, pretty as it is. If I had a good spot, I might have already bought it. Finding out the character’s longest visual task is eight hours makes me less inclined to find a place for it, though, especially at that price.

  12. I’d love to put this next to Sideshow Bob’s prison, but I already have something in that space (plus, I’m not really sure it fits into that neighborhood).

I’ll likely pull the trigger on this one, since I’m trying to pick up any characters that come up, but I was curious to see what Alissa and everyone else

  13. Heeeeeere’s Johnnycakes!

  14. Got it right away, seems to fit well into my mini town for the dig site. Like the look of the building and the character. Nice also that helps with the event.
    Thanks for the info.

  15. You can leave this in moderation if you want, I just can’t help pointing it out (it looks so odd to me!): “Study Acneint Hot Dogs.” I’m just sayin’… :-*

    • Product of typing too quick I’ll fix

      • I completely understand. Sometimes the fingers move faster than the brain. I (& I’m sure I’m not alone feeling this way) really appreciate you working your fingers to the bone getting these posts out as quickly as possible so we have all the details when we’re playing.

I’m just a bit of a grammar drill sergeant. Typos are like nails on a chalkboard to me. I try to resist the urge to point them out, but, sometimes, things just stand out & I can’t bite my tongue (or stop my flying fingers). :-/

  16. You’re banned from this historical society. You and your children, and your children’s children… for three months.

    • But my children’s children were going to visit next month! They are going to be SO disappointed when I tell them we have to go to Universal Studios instead!

    Bought Boobarella and the Gravedigger.

Thinking about this one too. Got just enough so it’s left. So maybe.
