With the time Travel Event EA is letting us take not only a trip back in World History but also a trip back in TSTO history…with items from TSTO events past in the Time Capsule Mystery Box!
This is a premium box full of your change to get those limited-time premium character/building/decorations with a Western flair to them. By now we should all be familiar with how Mystery Boxes work, so let’s jump to the breakdown of what’s inside..
First, let me point out that this is just one of THREE Mystery Boxes that are slated to be released before this event is over. This theme is more Western Stuff, the next one will go Medieval and the last one is for 4th of July. They other two will hit later in the event (and yes, I’ll write posts just like this one for those two…so please don’t ask. They’re already on my to do list..)
And…if you already have everything in the box you’ll get the popup but you won’t see the box in your store.
So for 80 donuts you can have your shot at a variety of Western Themed premium characters and buildings from the past, most of them are from last year’s Wild West Event. 80 Donuts is less than the initial value for each item…
Time Capsule Mystery Box Leaves Games June 14th…
Here’s what you can win…
Wes Doobner’s Rib Hut- Originally a Prize during Wild West. So this is one we don’t have a previous donut cost on. But based on what we know about Skin/building combos 80 donuts is a decent priced. This is a SKIN for Sideshow Bob, not a new character. Details.
Hootenanny Barn- Should I Buy, comes with Luke Stetson (Full character) and was originally 100 donuts.
Mount Carlmore- Should I Buy, typically always in the game. Regularly 120 donuts and offers a 3.5% bonus
Sneed’s Feed and Seed- Should I Buy, Originally 90 donuts
Wild West Film Set- Should I Buy, Originally 150 donuts comes with Film Set (acts like a building, with visual animation) AND Buck McCoy, full character.
Frink’s Mechano Spider- Should I Buy, Originally 130 donuts, offers 3.5% bonus.
Old Mine- Should I Buy, Originally 180 donuts, offers a 4% bonus.
Now, while I know you can’t pick and choose which items you want from the box, I included the Should I Buy posts from the past so y’all can see how much they originally cost & what specifically each building/character does.
80 Donuts is a bargain for any of these items…as they originally all were more than 80 donuts (especially for a couple of those character combos and decorations). So it’s certainly worth giving it a try if you have the donuts and want the items!

Really liked this mystery box so I tried it once and got really lucky as I wanted the hootenanny barn w/ Luke Stetson and ended up getting it, which is great as I regretted passing this one up when it first became available. Very happy with my results.
I’ve take three (3) passes, wanting the Fil Set or Hootenanny Bar
First I got Sneeds – meh!
THEN Imgot the Mine Ride and increased my multiplier
THEN I got the Spider and AGAIN increased my multiplier
If I go again I’ll probably get More not Cal and AGAIN increase my multiplier
I tell ya’ it’s rigged, just ‘ain’t fair.
But then I’ll have to get one of my two preferences
Yeah! Got the Film Set. Perhaps Mount Carl would be better as it increases my multiplier, but the Film Set goes well with my other Film Set and next to my Film Studios and Old West Town.
Now I just need more land to bette display these..
I was super lucky. The only item I didn’t want was Sneed’s, and I already had Wes from last year. Managed to get everything else. Between that and the donut boat and truck, my % bonus increased tremendously.
I “won” Wes Doobner, waiting to build his rib shack. Did I read somewhere that this isn’t a character it’s a skin for sideshow bob?

I won Luke Stetson, but unfortunately hide questline didnt Start. Any idea, why?
Take the “town square” from the western event out of storage…it will trigger the quest. Once the quest has started, you can re-store it.

I am a freemium player and am saving up for some pirate content and a mystery box so I can be sure not to miss out on that. I am going to get Blackbeard if he is for sale and hopefully have enough donuts left over for a pirate mystery box too
Do you know if all of the items have the same percentage to be won? So if I have 5 items I can open, there is a 20% chance of getting each. Or do different items get weighted differently based on original donut cost? I seem to always get the cheapest least desirable item every time.
First pass, I got the cheapest
Second pass, I got one of the most expensive
Third pass, I got middle of the road – leaning towa d expensive.
My experience does not equal that which others might.
I just tried it, the Mechano Spider (which I really wanted) was on the far left and that is exactly what I got. Mount Carlmore is on the left and I’d gladly take that, should I go for it??? What say you?
If donuts aren’t too much of an issue, I believe Carlmore is one of the vault choices. If you don’t want to risk it, you could wait till then and get it for rebate.
i got buck, the old mine, and the spider. the western themed items are my fav, i’m stoked!
I have very little interest in this stuff if I didn’t already buy it, even at a more reasonable price than before.
Also, I keep thinking this thing looks like Rita Repulsa’s space dumpster.
So there’s 3 items I want 2 items I dont mind since it’ll be 80 donuts compared to the original price and extra characters and Sneeds Feed & Seed. I’m going to gamble and report my findings in a bit. Feel free to laugh at me if I get Sneeds Feed & Seed.
I wanted the old mine, so of course I got Sneeds. Figured at that point at least if I tried again the items left were better options. So I got the Mechano spider, the second least interesting item offered to me. So what the heck one more try and got the Film set. 3rd strike out. With Carlmore and the Mine the only 2 it’s left, I tossed caution and my donuts to the wind and now I’m donut poor, but I got the Old Mine…
Great article. I had no idea they’re giving us a chance at the 4th of July content. I missed a lot of that stuff. Also we have a new character in the 4th of July category.
waiting for medieval stuff, i like all items that will be on offer and i have none of them, so… 🙂
I am saving my donuts for the forth of July because anything I get from that mini update I will like because I love all that stuff.

I have no scientific basis for this, but I didn’t want Sneeds.
If the item I wanted wasn’t on the extreme left of the box, I came out and went back in until it was. I wanted the mechano-spider and got it first time, despite there being 3 other items in the box.
Possibly, or probably just luck, so don’t hold me to that, but might be worth a try? 😉
There’s been a fair amount of discussion on that. People tend to report it when it works, but in all the times I’ve used things like the mystery boxes and suchlike, I haven’t found any pattern.
It definitely didn’t work for me… in the last mystery box I got the useless Plastic Surgery Centre and it wasn’t anywhere on my left-most items. I vowed never to use a mystery box again after that (unless I would be happy with anything in there). I would be totally pissed if I got Sneed’s building, so of course I’m most likely to get it.
I believed in that method previously because it seemed to work two times in s row for me but the next Two times it didn’t so…..

There is too high of a chance of getting something I don’t want versus what I do want so I’ll be saving my donuts for the future : )

Debating if I’ll try again before this leg of the event ends or it I’ll wait for medieval thingies (I have enough castles!!!). the good news is I don’t have much room to easily expand my Western area, so no worries if I don’t play.
I didn’t get the Wild West mystery box, because I already have everything. What I did get this morning was some dialogue about penning up mammoths, and was asked to place a frontier gate. I placed the gate, the dialogue repeated itself…and then…nothing. I don’t think I was the only one who saw the dialogue because as I worked my way through my neighbor list, a great many people had also placed frontier gates as well.
I’m wondering if this was some kind of odd glitch, a glitch for something that is going to happen in the future, or was it just a weird bit of dialogue to ‘encourage’ people to buy frontier gates? (With in-game cash.)

After you did that, a “mammoth pen” should have appeared in your store.
No sign of a mammoth pen anywhere in my store. I also looked in my inventory. I also couldn’t see a mammoth pen in any of my neighbors towns, although many had placed a frontier gate.

Wanted the Old Mine but got it only after Mount Carlmore. Unfortunately I don’t even know where to put Mount Carlmore.
Put it in your town, not your inventory. Problem solved.
I noticed that these mystery boxes are getting more expensive. In Secret Agents, they were 70 donuts, and the Valentine’s one was only 60.
I got a couple until I got Luke Stetson. The only ones left for me are the Mechano Spider and Sneed’s, and I don’t really care for either of them.

Got lucky 1st time, I wanted the old mine & got it. Had spider & my carlmore left, didn’t really want carlmore, but figured I’d give it a shot since I wanted spider. Guess what I got? 😂 Now I’m farming my butt off since I bought all 3 of the donut options. The scratchers were disappointing, 9, 9, & 6 iirc. Oh well 😊
That’s why I don’t see the Time Capsule Mystery Box. I already have that stuff.
Is there any kind of a coded probability in the Capsule, with respect to which items are more likely to come out? (As in, similar to the regular Mystery Boxes.) Because I have this sneaking suspicion that the most likely item to pop out is going to be the Sneed’s Feed and Seed… lol.
Probably, BUT I only had 3 things in mine…Sneed’s, the Spider and the Old Mine and I got the Old Mine..which is the only one I wanted.
There were 5 items in the capsule for me including Sneed’s Feed and Sneed. I went for 4 items and the Feed & Sneed is still in the Capsule, so it is possible to avoid it.
Strange note – even though Wes Doobner is a now donut-purchase premium item… it’s not earning premium payout.
Do people who get the skin via the mystery box get different outcome?
No it should be the same…it happens from time to time (not getting adjusted for payout). Sometimes it gets corrected, sometimes it doesn’t..

Same here. I’m being offered everything except the costume for Sideshow Bob, and I don’t want a single one of them, not even the characters.

OTOH, my purchasing finger is getting itchy, so I’m looking forward to seeing what’s in the vault tomorrow. Hoping it will be my turn at getting Maison Derriere (or something else I’ve been wanting for a while).
You could burn those donuts as a science project. Homer will hate that.
