Real quick, I’m getting this question asked A LOT in the comments…once you unlock Baby T-Rex should you hold shovels for the next Era or Keep using them?
Honestly, there’s no right or wrong answer to this. If you unlocked Baby T-Rex this easily you likely won’t have an issue with the next Era (which is also 48 Gems) so it’s kind of a moot point for you. But you’re also going to need shovels to earn more Fossils, Specimens and Tachyons…you know to finish the Prehistoric Prize Track.
So if you’re really paranoid and worried about saving shovels then do a mix of saving shovels and using them until you’ve unlocked the final prize in the Prehistoric Era. If you’re not worried (and honestly, if you’ve unlocked Baby T-Rex at this point you shouldn’t be worried), keep using them. Earn all those Fossils and get as many bonuts as you can!
If you do decide to save, I’d do a mix of saving and using. Or even wait until the day before the Prehistoric Era ends to start saving…this way you’ll continue to earn Specimens (for Crafting) and Tachyons (for the Panini Press).

i never got enough gems to get baby TRex or Moe.
but now in the Egyptian era i have finish the Apu temple, yet i still need to collect papyrus for the Willie pyramid. do i continue excavating until i finish the 2nd prize track that still requires more papyrus OR will i still be able to complete this in time w/o the extra loot from the excavation site (so i can just save my shovels instead for the pirate era)? not sure which is the best thing to do right now.

Ok, I’m at a crossroads right now. I’ve had the lousiest personal 2 weeks I have had in a while…(2 fam members died within days of each other and other craptastic stuff) and I got the news the day and the moment I was starting the event of the first one. Now, every time I load the game it brings me back to that moment but I have pushed through. I managed somehow to get the fossils needed to get Moes cave, but I’m like 40 gems away from the T. rex. I only got boobrella as my premium collector and somehow doesn’t matter what strat I used, I always end up using ten shovel per gem. There’s 2 days left. I got like 40 donuts. Is it worth me spending on the T. rex or should I save them for the next part?
The T. Rex is just a NPC so it depends on how much you like those, I guess.
Has anyone realized that even if you’ve reached the 199 shovels threshold, you can still send characters to make more shovels by tapping each character individually and sending them on the shovel-making task? I’m at 212 shovels and I just now sent my 6 characters to earn even more shovels.

I had a business trip and couldn’t play for a couple of days. I probably won’t get the baby Rex before this phase ends. Does anyone know if I will still be able to earn this prize after it ends…or should I break down and buy some shovels?
I’m stockpiling shovels until my panini press levels up and I hit the next excavation bonus increase, so when I do use them I get more bang for my shovellin’
