Addicts Open Thread

sorry this is up a little late today,  im travelling and forgot to schedule….

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

It’s that time of the week again, time for the Addicts Weekly Open Thread!  So, let’s get the conversation going!  Oh and remember…just because this is posted here today doesn’t mean you can’t comment on it all week long.  This open thread will still be open for comments long after today is over!

Here’s where you can talk about anything you want to talk about…TSTO Related, Simpson’s Related or ANYTHING.  Just no Add me requests…those should go here.  We’ll give you a few suggestions (like most Sunday’s you can talk about the current episode of the Simpsons) but for the most part you’re free to talk about ANYTHING your little Tapping Fingers desire…just keep it PG.

So, here is your Open Thread…..

The Time Travelling Toaster flashed us back to Egypt this morning.  What are your thoughts on the Egyptian Era so far?   Prizes you like?  Prizes you’re not a fan of?

How did you fare with the Prehistoric Era?

How was the rest of your weekend?  Do anything fun and exciting?

So chat about the Simpsons, TSTO, Update fun, or anything else you can think of! (Just no politics, it never ends well)  Can’t wait to chat with you all, you know we love hearing from you!

Have Fun!  And happy Sunday!

  1. Logged on today and saw that I am missing over 500 donuts. I contacted EA and they are looking into it. Anyone else have this problem today? It took a long time to accumulate that many donuts. Most likely will stop playing if EA doesn’t reimburse them.

  2. Was the hieroglyph wall removed from the store? I’m sure I saw it a couple days ago but I can’t find it today.

    • I noticed this today, too, which surprised me, because I don’t remember it having a timer/end date on it, so I figured it would be there for the remainder of the event (or, at very least, the remainder of this act!).

  3. Got my Pyramid this morning to my surprise. I had 10K to go last night and did two rounds of digging and a couple of panini presses and bam.. there it was.

  4. I got the pyramid with Willie’s costume today. Throughout the act I was a little skeptical, with it not being a full character. But after tapping on him the first time I’m completely in love with him. His quotes and tasks are both amusing to me. I guess never judge a book by its cover.

  5. So far, so good. Should be within a day or two of getting the Pyramid. Already have the temple and at 6 sec in 3 games, have the Mermaid Petting Zoo is 2 games, should get it in the other one soon.

  6. Some of my neighbours (Adamzki, Blazy, Ebron & others) have such fab prehistoric & egyptian areas it really encouraged me to set up my own now rather than wait until the event is over (my usual m.o). However, I can’t do my prehistoric one until the land becomes available where I’d like to set it up. I’ve seen some neighbours incorporating the tar pits. Such a cool idea, I will be shamelessly copying😂….💜X

  7. Hope at the end the excavation game stays. We could be offered 4 digs daily & get GENUINE GREAT REWARDS. So, SH currency that would allow us to go over the totals, straight monorail track pieces, small premium items offering XP/bonus, such as the apple & orange trees, planter, tree swing, police car etc. The booby prize could be XP min 1000 or cash min 5,000. Now that would be treasure worth digging for😊…..💜X

    • I love the idea of apple and orange trees…wish they were an option for the Mystery Box as well😁.

  8. So late last night I went into my town and I got pop ups for all the mini events saying that the event is over but I can still continue to collect stuff (I’m now getting coins, ribbons and NARA stars again), my money mountain and IRS building are at the lowest levels, tapping on people icons in the upper left doesn’t go to them, my Panini press is at 24 hours, and Gil showed up offering me Duff Gardens (which I didn’t buy before). Has this happened to anyone else? I’m assuming this isn’t part of the event like an error that Homer caused with his time travel since there wasn’t a post.
Then I’m also wondering if I should buy the Duff Gardens even though it is offered in error. I’m sure a patch will come out fixing this glitch for me at some point, but could buying Duff Gardens possibly create a fatal error and I should leave it alone?

  9. Happy Wednesday!

  10. Hi trying to log into TSTO and it is telling me my email is invalid anyone else with this problem?

  11. Thanks. That’s awesome!!

  12. What is KEM farm?
Maybe it’s obvious and I should know. But I have no idea. Lol
    Thanks

    • Buying and selling Kwik e marts with the XP collider on, there are many, many more informative posts you can find with a simple search.

    • KEM = Kwik-E-Mart. So a “KEM farm” is just a bunch of KEM’s, say 20-30 at a time, that are “farmed” for doughnuts through levelling up. You have to wait 4 hours and works best with the XP-Collider running at the time. Once you’ve built the KEM’s (after 4 hrs), you collect the XP they produce and hopefully level up a few times. Sell the KEM’s when you’re done and repeat every 4 hours. I’m at max level but still get 9-12 doughnuts every 4 hours. Realistically I earn 36-46 doughnuts per day.
If you have a lot of in-game cash you can just buy Rat Trap Delivery Trucks or Blood Mobiles. The idea with KEM’s though is that your in-game cash stays approximately the same throughout the day.

    • Basically, buying and selling KEMs to earn XP to level up to earn donuts.

  13. The Mystery Box is officially rigged. I have a technique (that I won’t discuss) where I can unlock the mystery box but go back if I don’t like the item given. 3 times in a row I got Sneed’s Feed & Seed. I will take ANY other choices (Hootenanny, Carlmore, Wild West, Spider, Mine), but not that lame building. It shouldn’t be possible to get the same item 3 times in a row!

    • I would really like to know your technique, because there’s only one thing I want from the current mystery box…if I get any of the other three, I’ll be sorely disappointed (and the one thing I want isn’t worth the 240 donuts I could potentially spend if the thing I want doesn’t come up until last).

      • I use an Android emulator, so when the prize is revealed I quit the application before the game has a chance to save. It’s essentially like the application crashed at the right moment. When I load the game again the prize isn’t unlocked and I keep my doughnuts, so it’s like it never happened. It *might* be possible to hard-close the application on a normal IOS/Android device but I’ve noticed it doesn’t always work – so don’t blame me if it doesn’t work :P. I really don’t like Mystery Boxes – just let me buy the item that I want!

        • I agree about the mystery boxes, but I’m guessing that it’s EA’s way of getting people to part with more donuts, since they may keep trying to get what they want. I didn’t mind the first one they did (not the first one from this event…wasn’t anything I wanted I that one, so it was easy to skip it…I mean the first one event that was done like this outside of the “normal” mystery boxes), because there was several things I wanted, so the odds were decent I’d get something I wanted. But, when I only want one thing out of four (and I actively don’t want the others), it gives me great pause to give it a go, even though I have a fair number of donuts saved up right now.

          Decisions, decisions…. #Virtualworldproblems

          • SANDRA- I share your dilemma (B Game). Really tempted to try once but I know if I’m unlucky, I’ll be too tempted to try again. I also want to keep some Donuts for the pirate act goodies. There are two items I def want. Oh what to do…🤔💜X

        • I have not gotten any thing from the mystery boxes during this event because there is more that I do not and do not want to risk spending donuts for basically nothing.
Agree I would just like to be able to spend donuts on what I want.

  14. Just got Abu Simbel last night and it reminded me – it’s the most amazing place ever. To stop them being lost underwater when the Aswan Dam was built, they carved the monuments right out of the mountain and put them on the top of the hill, then built a fake mountain over the top. When you visit you walk into a door in the back of the fake mountain and through what is like a set from James Bond then pop out other side right next to the monuments. Amazing! And twice a year the sun shines down the tunnel and lights up the faces of the four statues in the end chamber! If you get the chance to visits – do it! 🙂

    • We studied the whole process in one of my middle school classes. They used state of the art saws that cut only a mm slice thin, how they had to organize, label and move these multi ton blocks and reassemble them perfectly on higher ground is truly modern marvel of engineering. I would love to visit it one day.

  15. Good thing about the current event imo being lackluster regarding premium content is, I can spend my farmium donuts on the characters from vault without having to choose. So far Laura Powers, Rich Texan and, since today, Stacy Lovell have joined my town, all characters I wanted for a long time.

  16. As a freemium player, is the best way to build up my XP percentage to KEM farm and buy tons of items that increase XP percentage? Such as the jet bike. That way, in the process, increasing my cash as well.

    • The least expensive way is to buy mystery boxes for lots of billboard and vans. Your average cost per 1% is less than 10 donuts. They also can be hidden behind other buildings.

    • Buy mystery boxes. It will get your % up faster.

    • The best donut to percentage ratio is buying sets of 25 mystery boxes, which should yield 9%, via threes billboards and three news vans. (There’s one smaller set…if you only get two billboards before a news van shows up, then that cycle will end after you’ve gotten a second news van and then ten donuts).

  17. Isn’t there normally a crafting post by this point in the event (especially when crafting really helps to level up/benefit the regular event play)?
Not criticizing or anything, but just was wondering if it was forgotten.

    *waves hi to everyone*
Finding out I’m not superwoman (yet)

  19. i was behind the act 1 calendar 2 days and caught up 14hrs before act one finished getting all the prizes. with my job i’m easily able to login 5 times a day during events. now not everyone has the same opportunity to login in that many times but in this event the only thing needed when logging in and you don’t have much time is finish the shovels collecting task & restart it as well as clearing out the visitors with the panini press. never mind crafting, excavating or levelling up until you’re not busy & you’ll finish the act always

Reading concerns regarding the difficulty in completing these Acts led me to conclude 3 things help.
    1) Have played the game long enough to have sufficient characters.
All the Simpsons, Skinner, Willie and such. Say Level ~40+

    2) Be a fool / Addict – committed to the Game (i.e. Ready to be ‘Committed’)

    3) Be retired, so that you can ‘easily’ log in 4 or 5 or 6 times a day and be “Johnny on the spot” to finish 4 hour tasks.

My simple minded reasoning for “How to” succeed.

For now, back to sleep for me as I was up in the middle of the night and it is just past 6 here.

    • I splurged on Booberella, so yeah, that helped.
At the same time, I think how efficient you are at digging has a lot to do with it. For me, the best post on suggestions was TEO47’s post at
      https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kN66glGHgcVXxe3dVakxwTKJQI88EWkvWiTuGT9lXE8/edit?usp=sharing .
If you follow this, you can find the rocks at a maximum of 10 guesses – I kept track for a bit. Following this, I averaged finding the rocks (or gems) within 4.32 taps over 52 recorded tappings.

Yeah, that and #2, like you said 🙂

      • Yes – the statisticians saved us from the engineers! I rotate my table as well to make it more random.

        • I started keeping track to see if there was a pattern. I found that repeat on the same spot or place 3 or 4 in the 5 spot pattern in a row, so rotating really doesn’t help.

    • Levels can be confusing. I started a new game on 6/5/17 and already at level 41.

  21. This event is so ham fisted. I won’t be spending another dime on this game. I was FTP but spent $50- $100 in the last 6 months. I’m more than casual. Minimum 3 times a day. I was a couple of days late starting tops and missed out on Cavern Moe and baby T-Rex by miles and because of the people used for shovels I’m not going to get the 5 bonuts for railyard. I did figure out the excavation strategy late to be fair but it seems I’m not alone missing out on the prizes. I no my money lost 2 EA is inconsequential but surely there’s others that feel the same way?

    • I normally do the railyard in a day so I’m confused about why you cant manage it in a week but one thing I do do is make sure that all my recycling bins are filled once ive got my bonuts which might take up the next day😋

      • I’m often over capacity for recyclables and trash going in to Tuesday, but it also takes me several days to get donuts. Do you have a lot of premium characters that help with those tasks? I can still finish in a week during this event, but it takes through Sunday. Any tips on speeding that up. Are appreciated.

        • Stick mostly to the smallest box, as it tends to let you stored around what you have to spend among the three types of recyclables, allowing you to get further before you have to stop to restock. Assisi, when you fill up at the end in preparation for the following week, be sure to “overstock,” by earning up to just short of whatever the item is (so, for example, 65 glass), and then send all of your earners to do one last round (meaning you’ll end up with more than the 70 maximum).

But, yeah – the premium characters do help a lot. That’s why I bought those when I could.

          • Still think doing it in a day is not the norm even with premium characters. Takes me 3 to 4 days when an event is on but without 2 1/2 days.

            • It usually takes me about a day and a half, not including restocking. This week, with the event, two days. I do have all of the premium characters associated with the rail yard, though. (I made getting them a priority a while back.)

  22. Not digging this event tbh. (See what I did there? Digging? ;’D ) I wasn’t around for the dinosaurs and such, and I am SO MAD bc I didn’t have Internet when I heard there was a bowling event a while ago, and so I’ll never get those prizes. 🙁 Anyway… thinking of putting the Egyptian stuff my museum to make it look like they’re having a big exhibit or something. That’s the only ideal I have for my springfield though.

  23. How in the world do some players have over 100 thousand of act 2 currency when it’s only been 1 day??? Are they spending thousands of donuts on shovels and just digging all day? WTF

    • You had to finish act 1 early (or give up on it) and start saving shovels and tasks. You can hoard up to 199 shovels (actually mine went to 200 for some reason). The other thing was to save daily tasks that gave out act specific currency. When the act changes over, they give you the new act currency.

On the daily tasks, you had to decide at the end to use your daily tasks for bonuts or save them for the next act.

Wish I could say I was smart enough to have thought of this stuff, but hey, that is what this site is for.

      • … wait, over 100,000?
NVM. you got me. Maybe they are “really lucky” at digging.

      • I did all the “saving and stockpiling” at the end of Act 1 and am now at around 39,000 papyri in Act 2. The only way to be over 100,000 in one day is by spending donuts for all the main prizes(and maybe buying a couple camels😉). Nothing shady there… if you have the donuts and don’t want to play thru the grind, go for it.😁 (Makes me wonder tho Dave…are you sure you weren’t looking at Act 1 totals…I have several neighbors that went well over 100,000 at the end of the last Act)

    • When you spend donuts on the complete prize track to get everything as early as possible, the event currency gets rewarded as well and shows up in the counter. So they may have spent donuts to get all the prizes and end up with almost 90K already. After that they may have been using shovels for the excavation site to get all the “gem” prizes (like the Baby T-Rex), which increased their event currency count even higher.

There are people, who’d rather spend a lot of donuts (and money) instead of grinding. And there are people with hacked games and therefore unlimited donuts. Usually it’s not possible to tell which kind of these two options your neighbor is, unless they have tell-tale signs like content from the next act or multiples of unique items (though there have been bugs that award multiples to legit players, so not even that is 100%).

    • Some people cheat… if you visit their town and they have absolutely every premium item, sometimes with duplicates of unique items, then you’ll know you’ve found one. I definitely have a few neighbours like that – I don’t report them as I like to see all the premium items for myself.

    • People who finished Act 1 early were able to stockpile up to 199 shovels, giving them a quick start when Act 2 opened up.

  24. I didn’t do too badly in Act 1 – got the last prize with 3 days to spare. Act 2 might be a little too challenging, but I have over 10,000 Papryi. So on pace so far. I think Pirates may be the most interesting part of the event, which has just been ok considering the interesting subject matter.
