Should I Spend Donuts on the Hangman Cage or Pile of Gold?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Time to grab toast as we travel back…wayyyy back…in time with Homer in the all new TTT (Time Travel Toaster) event!  We’ve flashed forward from the land of Egypt to the era of rum, jolly rogers, pirate ships and scurvy…and of course we’ve got loads of Pirate Era items in our Springfield just temping us with those sprinkles!

Of course with that limited-time label it can be tempting to buy everything that looks awesome because it’ll be gone soon.  But don’t sweat it!  That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth those donuts and what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add the Hangman Cage or Pile of Gold to your Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding these Pirate decos to your town…

Pros
-Ok (but not great) bonus %

Cons
-No benefit for the event
-No questline or tasks associated with it (not even dialogue)
-Not animated, not even when tapped.

Final Thought
Premium or Freemium:
It’s a reasonably priced decoration, that offers an OK bonus percent. It offers no benefit for the event, and really doesn’t do much.  So,this one is going to come down to, if you like it get it…otherwise pass.

Building/Decoration:Pile of Gold
Donut Cost: 10 donuts
Earns: .25% Bonus % on all cash and XP, also earns 95  when placed

Conform-O-Meter:
Vanity +200
Other Info:
Can be placed grass|pavement|boardwalk|pier|dirt|beach

Leaves stores July 5th

Pros
-Comes with a bonus %

Cons
-No benefit for the event
-No questline or tasks associated with it (not even dialogue)
-Not animated, not even when tapped.
-Bonus % is meh

Premium or Freemium:
It’s an inexpensive decoration, that offers no benefit for the event, and really doesn’t do much.  So,this one is going to come down to, if you like it get it…otherwise pass.

Of course in the end it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would or wouldn’t do…and as I premium player I can you I’ll likely be passsing on both.   But whatever you decide, just make sure you make your final decision before it leaves our games for good (or for now).

What are your thoughts on the Hangman Cage or the Pile of Gold?  Will you be spending the donuts to bring either to your Springfield?  Why or why not? Where have you placed them? Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. That cage is super creepy…wouldn’t want to have to look at it in my town, so it was an easy pass for me. And we already got a pile of gold for something (crafting?), and, added with other free treasure chests and stuff, I have enough bling for my cave/pirate area.

So, I’m passing on both these.

  2. This’d be called a gibbet, wouldn’t it?

  3. I’m on the fence on this one, the gallows. I could place it next to the other gallows, which would fit quite well, I think.

On another note, it would truly be awesome if the inventory came with a tab of decorations that had bonus xp. I’ve just been through my inventory and several items had a bonus (that maybe hadn’t before, or that had ended up in storage) and so I could boost my bonuspercentage again. It would be so helpful if they were put in a seperate tab. Just had to get that off my chest…

    • I’d settle for a tab of all my Premium items! *sigh* Since most of the things that have % added become Premium items, it would help in locating them.

Plus, sometimes I end up storing lots of things, and would at least like to know which items I paid for when I go to add items back to my SF! 😄

Ideally, I’d like tabs for each event, or year (perhaps even something like “Summer 2016”, “Autumn 2014”, etc.). Alas, this likely won’t happen. 😕

  4. Bought the hangman cage to add to my pirate ride set up (even though we can only place the rowboat in the ocean…just pretend the rowboat is in the moat/river along my ride setup) along with the pirate prison. Just wish there were more pirate themed items to construct, as well as palm trees you could place anywhere instead of along the beach.

Would’ve loved to have the ghost pirate ship, but I don’t have the donuts to buy. Which brings me to a peeve I have with this game. Instead of offering a rebate on a big ticket item, just offer it for the amount if donuts after the rebate, and get rid of said rebate. I know it is in place to make it a limited edition item, but honestly, 175 donuts is a lot to freemium players who grind for donuts without KM farming. Makes me want to take up KM farming just to have a bunch of donuts at my disposal…which, really, items like this encourage.

    • AzulPantalones

There are palm trees for Springfield Heights that you can place anywhere, I believe.

    • I definitely agree with you there- it would be a huge help to have items just offered at the lower value. It really could be useful to start KEM farming – I’ve tried it for the past two months or so and even with a low bonus percentage (just got it to 160), it’s helped me get items I really wanted. I definitely say to give it a shot and see what you think!

    • You can craft palm trees with Springfield heights currency (furniture I think) that can be placed anywhere. Hope this helps your design! 😊

    • My wife clued me into the palm trees in the SH section of the store. Thanks all who mentioned that. Of course, there are palm trees now around my pirate moat AFTER I’ve already submitted the screencap for the showoff of my area for this event. Ah well. Onward & upward

  5. Already added 2 to my Halloween area…perfect fit, may have to get 2 more…

  6. I bought one after hearing how people were planning on putting in their Halloween area, my favorite along with nature areas, also saw history of the awful things (shudders) which for me added some depth to it. Pleased with it as it looks nicely designed.
PS: I have also switched over to being a farming player. I was sinking too much cash in the game, but can not stand the idea of missing out on items I desire. It has really made the game much more stress free, and enjoable (no longer have nagging senation about my bank account).
Yes, requires more time, but unfortunately/fortunately, I now live with having the time to fill my day.

  7. Hangman Cage / Pile of Gold
Both look like Decor you’d Craft
(if this was last year? I’m convinced these would’ve been Craftables!)

Sorry EA, not getting my Bonuts / Donuts today

  8. I got the cage because it rounded out my pirate area nicely and the cost was reasonable for the bonus.

  9. I appreciate this is the wrong place…. But does anyone know what to do when the fast forwarding tasks take your donuts? I list around 80 of them yesterday using this feature. I spoke with EA support and they say it’s something to do with the servers and the donuts should reappear. Suffice to say that they haven’t!

  10. I bought so many hang man cages, like 24 of them and I’m still wondering if I should buy more. Somebody stop me from tapping that button!

  11. I might do the cage just because I love Halloween! This will be my first year for Treehouse of Horror…. I might need about 1000 donuts!!

  12. I buy items if there are lots of Pros, or if it’s a steal. The cage is practically useless. No dice!

  13. Gabe "glue man" degrossi

I find all these premium decorations offered add nicely to a pirate area of Springfield so I bought pretty much all of them and I gotta say, I’m quite pleased with the look of em’.

  14. Hell no

  15. I bought the hangman cage because it reminded me of Willow, I used to love that movie. Can’t find the right place to put it though.

  16. Nice and piratey.
