Should I Spend Donuts on Sconewall Bakery and Rollerskate Smithers?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Apparently the recent Time Travel Event has caused EA to lose their calendars because a Pride Update has hit our games..a month late. Naturally with all event, mini or not, our stores are stacked with premium items tempting us to spend those sprinkles!

Of course with that limited-time label it can be tempting to grab everything in sight because it’ll be gone soon.  But don’t sweat it!  That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth those donuts and what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add Sconewall Bakery and Rollerskate Smithers to your Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding this combo…

Character/Skin: Rollerskate Smithers
Building/Decoration: Sconewall Bakery
Donut Cost: 125 Donuts

4×6
Conform-O-Meter:
Consumerism +20

Pros
-Premium skin for Smithers, so will make Smithers a premium character
-Comes with a questline (short, 3 parts)

Cons
-Smithers won’t use Sconewall bakery
-His visual tasks are different, but very similar
-Sconewall Bakery won’t be used by any characters
-Smithers already has a premium Stonecutters skin, that many long time players got for free.

Final Thought
Premium:
Meh. It’s a toss up.  I’m not a huge fan of spending donuts for premium skins, but if you like it go for it.  Price isn’t too out of line with what some other premium skins were going for (Cavegirl Booberella was 100 donuts).  Just wish his outdoor tasks were a little more creative.  Sure he Rollerskates around town, once with a bag of groceries and once doing Yoga, but that’s really it.  Same basic animation concept.

Freemium:
Pass.  If you’re going for a premium character combo with this event go with Julio and pass on this one.

Of course in the end it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would or wouldn’t do…and as I premium player I can tell you I’ll very likely be passing.   But whatever you decide, just make sure you make your final decision before he leaves our games for good (or for now).

Here’s a look at his tasks…

Rollerskate Smithers’ Permanent Tasks:

Task Length Earns Location
Grab a Latte 1hr $105, 26xp Java Server
Shop for Groceries 4hrs $260, 70xp Outside/Visual
Watch a Musical 8hrs $420, 105xp Springfield Googolplex
Get a Haircut 12hrs $600, 150xp Hairy Shearers/ Jake’s Unisex Hair Salon
Do Rollerskate Yoga 24hrs $1,000, 225xp Outside/Visual

What are your thoughts on Rollerskate Smithers and the Sconewall?  Will you be spending the donuts to bring them to your Springfield?  Why or why not?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. Heya! I’m at work browsing your blog from my new iphone 3gs!

Just wanted to say I love reading through your blog and look forward to all your
posts! Keep up the excellent work!

  2. Love this combo…my Squidport is complete!

  3. Rollerskate Smithers and the Sconewall

This should be an amusing combo, except EA is offering another half ass Character Skin / Building (is it too much to ask for Character Tasks with a Building?) – and I guess if you don’t have a Premium Skin for Smithers? Well, here you go (even though it’s a shame Noobs aren’t obtaining Premiums via Event Prizes like we used to get)! 😐

    • Not sure why he doesn’t use the building he comes with though there are several characters like that in the game (like Sanjay or Gina). I guess if Wise Guy is near the building he might so his food task there but if not it will just be another empty building.

  4. It is a good purchase but I have only 60 donuts 😪

  5. I like having Smithers dancing outside the steel mill all the time, but if he didn’t have that task I would probably be more inclined to get this. Yeah, his stonecutters skin also pays premium, but it has zero visuals. (Doesn’t stop me using a lot of the other stonecutters, but that’s generally if they don’t have any other premium tasks.)
I also don’t know where I would put the building. It’s an odd shape and size compared to many other buildings.
Nothing makes me really want this. It would have made a very nice prize, but I hesitate to pull the trigger on if for donuts.

  6. I’ll probably get it if donuts allow after I get Harry Shearers. I like the look of it and the rollerskating animation. Also, I like the name, and I love scones. 🙂

I’ve been looking forward to Julio. Been out of town until recently and I’m desperately trying to make up for lost time, and build up my donut cache to get him. So, sadly. I’ll probably end up passing on everything else…including this.

  8. Very pleased with my purchase. As someone that almost exclusively uses animated tasks, love having more options for Smithers.

Plus the building goes very well in the pride area I just put together. It sits behind Grady’s apartment with some tables and trees.

  9. I don’t know what I want to do. I’m debating holding on to my doughnuts until the next event comes by. The Steel Mill Factory is a good deal. Any guesses what will be next? Should be something to take through the rest of the summer.

  10. I’ve been waiting for this skin since playing! Now I need Smithers’ townhouse to go next to Sideshow Bob’s townhouse…

  11. Only spend donuts on things that give you bonus xp and bonus $. You can turn one day of playing into three days of playing quick. The best value is the jet engine bike. 30 donuts for 2% bonus xp / $. Or save your donuts for when they have deals that you get donuts back. Example- they had the T trees for 15 donuts and you get 10 back. You get .50% per tree. If you do the math you get 2% bonus xp / $ for only spending 20 donuts. I am at 200% bonus xp and can level up in about 3-4 days!

    • Best bet is Mystery boxes, averages less than 9 donuts per percentage.

    • 4kidsandacatdog

Don’t you KEM farm? My bonus is a little less that 300% and I level up twice every four hours on average.

    • As someone who has definitely worked hard to get to a pretty high bonus multiplier and who has used that to farm many donuts, I still gotta disagree with “only” sending donuts on things with a bonus multiplier. First and foremost, this is a game, and one that’s played for fun…there’s no contest among players, with winners or losers. So, I’d say that, if there’s something that would bring you joy, or pleasure, or amusement, then it’s worth spending donuts on, regardless of whether it has a multiplier.

Now that doesn’t mean that I don’t also send donuts on things for the purpose of upping my multiplier…surely the scores of billboards and news vans that I’ve gotten from buying mystery boxes aren’t there to add to my “fun” factor, except in that they raise my multiplier and, therefore, make my farming much more effective. But to discourage someone from buying something just because it didn’t have a multiplier kinda defeats the whole point in playing this game, IMO.

      • I disagree. Bonus xp / $ is key to the game. Not player skins or buildings that pay $200 every 16 hours. In my opinion it’s not worth it. If there was a world leader board would you not agree? The point of a game is to be the best and win. I have been playing since week one. Gone through at least 5 Christmas, Halloweens, 4th of Julys exactra. Have done my fair share of tapping. True OG here. I can tell if someone has jail broke the game or spent $100’s of dollars on donuts by visiting there land. I have done neither. When your land starts costing 1.5 million a piece you well agree with me.

        • I agree about the importance of the multiplier and cash…my multiplier is well over 1300% and I’m nearing $50M in cash reserves, despite planting 76 KEMs four times a day. Having buildings and premium skins do help build up the cash and XP (and, therefore, donuts), especially when you have a high multiplier and run the collider 24×7, like I do. Where do you think most of your base cash and XP comes from, if not from collecting tasks and buildings?

And, no…I couldn’t care less how I’m doing compared to others (except, occasionally for fun during an event). A world leaderboard would absolutely not make me forgo things that are fun just for the sake of a high ranking.

As for judging how advanced someone is in the game by the cost of their next land purchase….that’s not a particularly good metric to use, because it has a lot more to do with how expansively one likes to design. I tend to prefer a more “compact” look in my town, and I buy land somewhat sparingly. I’ve seen far more “junior” players than I who have large parks or wilderness areas and/or dedicate an entire land square to each building and, therefore, have paid much more for new land than what I’m up to.

I may not be a full OG in this game – I’ve “only” been playing for about 3 years (since a bit before the Clash of Clones event), but I’m hardly a newbie. I’ve spent some money on the game, maybe around $100, give or take, but have mostly worked to earn what I have, by playing frequently and, in recent times, by farming. I’ve never hacked or modded my game, either.

So, bottom line, no, I don’t think I’m ever going to agree with your philosophy of the game. But that’s okay – if you enjoy playing in a way that would put you at the top of some imaginary leaderboard, more power to you. Personally, I like to enjoy what I’m seeing and doing in my game and am, happily, now in a position that my farming allows me to buy everything I’d like in the game. To each his/her own.

          • How do you have over 1300 % ?? That’s impressive!! Do you spend money on donuts?

            • spend money on donuts? a true og would know the answer to this….

            • Not anymore…I can farm all the donuts I need. (Well, I take that back…I did buy some donuts to get the two least expensive Shelbyville deals.)

I got there by a variety of ways. Early on, it was by crafting or purchasing a few things that gave a good bonus, sometimes perhaps inadvertently on EA’s part, like the tennis courts and spooky walls and the beach hideaways. I bought my share of jet engine bikes, too.

But I started making some really serious progress when I started KEM farming and using the donuts to buy mystery boxes, which offers the best donut to bonus deal. My original goal was 1000%, but, as you go on, it gets easier…it kind of starts to snowball. Of course, I’ve also picked up more percentage points as I’ve been able to buy more premium stuff with my farmed donuts. (Although I’ve passed on stuff that earns a bonus if I didn’t want it in my town, for whatever reason…for example, those T trees offered a decent return, but I couldn’t see myself decorating with them, and, if I’m buying something solely for bonus, then, again, I’m better off with the mystery boxes.)

So, short answer, through some strategy (with help from some of the folks on this site) and a fair amount of work! 🙂

              • Wow I’m learning a lot. Maybe I’m not a true OG lol. I kind of understand KEM farming but how do you farm donuts???

              • sandrashill

When said I “farm donuts” it was a shorthand for doing Kwik-E-Mart farming to earn donuts. In case you’re not really clear on KEM farming, it’s buying a bunch of Kwik-E-Marts, waiting until they’re done building to collect them pretty large amount of XP you get for that (which helps you fill your XP meter, and, thereby, earning donuts), then selling them back to recoup 25% of your expenses for building them. Then you repeat the process. If you have a high multiplier (don’t forget to have all of the Springfield Heights coffee buildings out for their hidden XP bonus percentages, too), you can earn a lot of donuts every four hours doing that, for a few extra minutes of work.

              • Ok I get that but how many levels do you increase at a time on average ? I only get one donut per level increase. I also only have about 220% bonus xp multiplyer.

              • sandrashill

Yes, you only get one donut per level up until you hit level 939 (which I did not that long after they ended regular levels with level 60….did some rat trap truck farming to accelerate that). Once you’re at level 939, you get the bonus boxes every time you fill your meter (the ones that only cost $50,000 for an extra pick). Before 939, it only takes 500,000 XP to fill it; once you’re at 939, that goes up to 1,000,000 XP. I can level up my meter once every 6-7 KEMs (IIRC), and twice just collecting my buildings and characters in the morning (after their 12-hour overnight tasks).

              • Also how many kwike marts do I buy? They cost $580 for me. From what I understand they go up in price the more you have? Thanks for all this info. Much appreciated!

              • sandrashill

Someone (Charles, I think) has a spreadsheet in Google Docs that’s supposed to help one figure that out, but I could never get it to work for me (it wouldn’t accept input). But you can figure it out by doing a bit of experimentation. The goal (generally…it doesn’t *have* to be) is to buy as many as you can afford to while keeping your cash stable, when offset by what you’re earning from your buildings and character task collections. Each KEM that you buy costs more than the one before it until you reach the $14,400 mark, at which point the price status constant there. Some people like to start out just buying as many as they can until they hit the $14,400 Mark, since you get the best return that way. But the more you can afford to farm, the more of a return you’ll get.

Personally, I didn’t start KEM farming until I had leveled myself up to 939 (I think) – rat trap trucks don’t offer as good a return as KEMs, but they’ll level you up much faster. So, I guess it depends on how patient you’re willing to be. Keep in mind that you’ll also need to spend some donuts to keep the collider running, too, which is another benefit to doing rat trap trucks….you can just pay for one day of collider use (which isn’t as good a deal as 10 days, but requires a smaller upfront investment).

But I can’t stress enough how important it is to get both your regular bonus multiplier and your hidden XP multiplier as high as you can. If you haven’t bought and placed all of the beach hideaway pieces and core Springfield Heights buildings (except the resort), then you’re leaving as much as 250% of XP multiplier on the table.

              • Thanks I’m going to give it a try. I just found out about the beach hide away the other day. I bought one and upgrade it all one shot. 20 bonus xp!!! I wish I knew that a long time ago. I’m going to get the other 4 then give the KEM farming a try.

              • Hey there, what is your opinion on friends? I have 99 friends and a bunch of people waiting to be friends. I have gone through my list and weeded out people who haven’t played in a few months but now I can’t decide who to be friends with. Any thoughts?

              • Well….I have a great bunch of neighbors/friends (maybe some of the best out there!), but most of them are very high-level players. Having high-level neighbors is great, because you can often see especially good designs and they often buy new things right away, giving me a chance to see how the new item actually looks in the game before I decide whether to buy it myself.

However….I do admit that I really miss having some low-level neighbors, for a few reasons. First, I like to pay forward the help that I got from my neighbors when I was just starting out. Second, during events, it’s a lot easier to find the tappables (rats, aliens, whatever) in a smaller town. Third, it’s kinda fun watching a young town grow.

So, I think if I were in your position, I’d try to go for a mix of levels. Also, it’s great fun having most of my neighbors be people who regularly post here…it makes them more “real” and it helps build “friendships.” So, if there are some folks here who you’ve become a “fan” of, or who post pictures of designs you think are cool, you might want to send them an invitation. However, keep in mind that they may or may not have the room to accept you, and, also, you should be sure to post here to let them know that you sent them an invite (or that you’re planning to send one, even better), so they can a) let you know whether they have room for you and b) keep an eye out for your invitation, since they may already have a long list of invitations they haven’t accepted yet.

Also, to find folks who are definitely looking for new neighbors (and especially to find newer players looking for new neighbors), be sure to go to the Add Friends option in the menu at the top of the page.

                Hope this helps!

              • sandrashill

P.S. I admire/respect you for being willing to admit that. 👍👍

            • Oh, and the collider….would have been a LOT harder without that!

      • I agree, Sandra. It took years of playing to get my multiplier as high as it is. If I didn’t enjoy the game, I never would have got here.

    • I read many of the comments, thanks to all for your thoughts and input. I play the game for myself and my town is what gives me the enjoyment. No not get me wrong I love the blog and each town is their owner’s own. If you like to farm doughnuts or buy them I say each to their own. I am not saying what I do, just that I enjoy the game. Thanks to all my neighbors I enjoy seeing your towns and designs.

  12. “Meh.” haha, i can hear the “but it’s smithers on roller skates!” replies. i get everything these days, but agree that using donuts on skins are usually my least desired way to spend them. this is gonna sound crazy, but i’d even rather spend donuts on npcs now…. 😱

from the perspective of someone who cares about the buildings as much as the characters, the sconewall bakery IS kinda meh. at least the foliage growing on it kinda goes with the foliage on armistead’s mopeds and grady’s village apartments, but it’s not even the same shade of green. maybe if the pink were brighter, like it is in the show… oh well, i think in general, the new buildings we got for free in this mini event were better than the ones offered for donuts. if one is strapped for premium currency, it might be best to just hold onto them to see what’s next.
