Where Did THAT Come From – Señor Ding Dong & his Doorbell Fiesta & Van

In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where Did THAT Come From?

Don’t call it a comeback… I’ve been here for years. Hey howdy hey friends. Wookiee popping by from a little bit of a layover in life to get back to one of my favorite parts of being a writer here at this amazing site. That’s right… new stuff for me to talk about just WHERE it all comes from in the Best. Show. Ever. I’m always a fan of new things even though a lot of the coolest things cost precious sprinklies. Recently, we got a return of Superheroes schtuff but I was overjoyed that at least a few new items found their way into the game. Señor Ding Dong’s Doorbell Fiesta, the Ding Dong Señor himself, and the Doorbell Fiesta van. Yes, I know a combined 180 donuts is pricey (140 for SDD & the building + 40 donuts for the van) but I love these items. Let’s dive into the TV series to find them.

“Maximum Homerdrive” (S10:E17)

This episode is a two-part plot like many of the installments of The Simpsons. Bart and Homer are off truck driving for Red Barclay after Homer eats a 16 pound steak in one plot but it’s the B plot which interests us here. You see… Marge wants adventures like her hubby too so her and Lisa are off to get a new doorbell. There’s only one place to get a new one apparently. Señor Ding Dong’s Doorbell Fiesta.

I think I just love that Gil works here and is tricked by Nelson with the classic flaming poop bag. Lots of ding-dang-dongs, do-re-mes, and ha-cha-chas to choose from. Marge picks a musical doorbell that plays “Close to You” by The Carpenters. Good thing for Gil too since he was due for a performance evaluation from Señor Ding Dong. I know I wasn’t alone in hearing this reference and wondering what he looked like way back in 1999.

With the doorbell installed, all Marge needs is for someone to ring it. Really funny that no one comes since Homer is gone. Not even Milhouse or the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Marge has to resort to calling Luigi’s for delivery breadsticks. Rafael shows up with the order, knocks instead and refuses to press the button.

Lisa finally gives in and presses the bell which goes off and then doesn’t stop to hilarious effect. I guess you can imagine what listening to the opening chime of that song might do to your nerves. You might really wonder why birds suddenly appear while going mad. Especially when pulling wires doesn’t stop the music.

Have no fear dear friends. All ends well as Señor Ding Dong appears to rescue Marge and Lisa before the entire neighborhood goes mad. There’s really nothing quite like a mystery corporate logo man with a whip on a van to save the day.

There was a time when he was just a marketing gimmick but now he is so much more. He’s one cool whip-cracking super guy. If only his jalopy of a Chevy van was as cool as him.

Bonus WDTCF: The Heimlich Machine from 2014’s Thanksgiving Mini-Event also comes from this episode and is located in The Slaughterhouse restaurant.

So there you go. The origin of the new “superhero” offered for premium currency during this Superheroes return dealio. What do you think of him? Did you splurge for his doorbell antics and/or van? Think he’s not really a “superhero” like me? Don’t get me wrong, I’m stoked for the offering but surprised they connected him to a yard sale of sorts. Happy I’m back and writing a timely origin post? Sound off in the comments and adios for now you classy tappers you.

TTFN… Wookiee out!
