Bracket Battle Pick’em Contest: Week 4 Leaderboard

Bonjour Brilliant Beautiful Building Bracket Battle Best Buddies,

(Today’s post is sponsored by the letter “B”)

As many of you know, the third edition of the Bracket Battle is back this summer. This time it’s to determine the most desired building in our Springfield’s. However, this time, we have an added pick’em contest to go along with the Bracket Battle and the Addicts have been kind enough to provide a prize of $10 USD gift card (or equivalent) to one winner from the United States and one International winner.

While it’s too late to enter the contest now, the original contest post with rules can be found here.

A quick recap of the contest:

  • Basically everyone who entered made their 63 picks for who will win the 63 head-to-head matchups.
  • Every correct Round 1 (weeks 1-4) matchup is worth 1 point.
  • Every correct Round 2 (weeks 5-6) matchup is worth 2 points.
  • Every correct Round 3 (week 7) matchup is worth 4 points.
  • Every correct Round 4 (week 8) matchup is worth 10 points.
  • Every correct Round 5 (week 9) matchup is worth 20 points.
  • And correctly predicting the winner in Round 6 (week 10) is worth 40 points.
  • The two people (1 from US, 1 international) with the most points at the end of the Bracket Battle each win a prize.

So who entered?

278 people entered the contest, plus we have four picks that are not eligible for prizes: Namely from our three Addicts and I also made my picks.

We received 179 contest entries from USA; 28 from Canada; 21 from UK (I included those who entered England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as UK); 9 from Australia; 5 from Germany and the Netherlands; 4 from Spain; 3 from Ireland; 2 from Austria, Belgium, Hungary, New Zealand, Slovakia, South Africa, and Sweden; and 1 entry apiece from Brazil, Czech Republic, Hong Kong, Macedonia, Mexico, Pakistan, the Philippines, Poland, Singapore, and Thailand.

But we’re all Addicts and the picks we made must all be the same, right?

WRONG!!!

All 282 entries had a unique combination of 63 picks winning their matchups (i.e. not even including the tiebreaker). Granted there are 1,329,227,995,784,920,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 unique entries that could have been made, but I thought there might be some consensus amongst Addicts. 40 of the 64 buildings were picked as winner of the title of the most desired building.

So how am I doing so far?

Here is the Leaderboard after Week 4 and with the completion of Round 1, sorted by points then alphabetically by name:

Congrats to Kevin W who is in sole position of first place after Rond 1 with 29 of a maximum 32 points.

So who picked who in Week 4?

#5 seed Lenny’s House (80% – 1,173 votes) upset destroyed #4 Homer & Mindy’s Dream Mansion (20% – 286 votes) in the Bracket Battle, causing the 111 people (39.4%) who didn’t see the upset coming to not get the point.

#5 Ye Olde Off-Ramp Inn (81% – 1,160 votes) upset destroyed #4 Second-Best Western (19% – 266 votes) in the Bracket Battle, causing the 194 people (68.8%) who picked the upset to steal the point.

#4 Krusty’s Clown College (55% – 784 votes) defeated #5 Springfield Planetarium (45% – 654 votes) in the Bracket Battle, causing just the 65 people (23.0%) who picked the upset to miss out on the point.

#5 Springfield Speedway (57% – 808 votes) upset #4 Springfield Mystery Spot (43% – 615 votes) in the Bracket Battle, causing the 155 people (55.0%) who picked the favourite to miss the point.

#5 Moe’s Express (68% – 959 votes) defeated the replacement #4 The Hate Box (32% – 451 votes) in the Bracket Battle. But even before this matchup began, EA was responsible for brEAking 179 people’s (63.5%) brackets when they introduced The League of Extra-Horny Gentlemen into our games.

#5 Kentucky Fried Panda (63% – 891 votes) upset #4 Greaser’s Café (37% – 528 votes) in the Bracket Battle, causing the 195 people (69.1%) who picked the upset to steal the point.

#5 The Creamatorium (50% – 700 votes) barely upset #4 Cockamamie’s  (50% – 697 votes) by just 3 votes in the Bracket Battle, preventing the 196 people (69.5%) who picked the upset from becoming upset.

#5 KrustyCo SweatShop (62% – 879 votes) upset #4 35 Industry Way (38% – 534 votes) in the Bracket Battle, resulting in 74 people (26.2%) who picked the favourite to not get the point.

Well that’s it for this weeks pick’em contest leaderboard recap. Don’t forget to vote on the Week 5 Bracket Battle matchups here. Voting is open until noon eastern this Thursday. And be sure to come back this Friday evening for the second half of Round 2 when the week 6 matchups go live.

I’m tied for first in Canada!

  2. One point behind Alissa can’t be all that bad. 🙂

    • …and I only just now noticed that I am actually tied for 2nd place in the International group! Getting cautiously optimistic again 😉

  3. This bracket battle is alote of fun

  4. So, here’s what I’m wondering… Has there been a case yet where most people assumed that A would win when making their contest guesses, even though most people actually voted for B to win on their personal choice votes? Assuming that people are really trying to guess the zeitgeist when they made their guesses for the contest, and not just pick what they actually was hoping would win, it seems possible that this could occur.

    • I can only speak for myself, but I chose my favourites in the contest. Seems as good a guess as any. Although I am not sure anymore what I picked in every case, since some of the choices were tough ones – when I liked either both or none.

  5. Truly, in the annals of job doing, no job has ever been done more greatly. Excellent work, Safi.

(I didn’t participate, but I’ve been following along. Mostly to root against the Yankee fan.)

  6. Truth be told, I paid zero attention to what this is…still don’t know. I Christmas treed whatever survey we needed to fill out in order to participate and I’m tied for 19th.
Proof that nothing matters or anything is possible.

  7. Whoa! Good job Safi! That’s a lot of work..

  8. Still keeping up with Safi and Wookiee! Good enough for me 🙃
