Road to Riches…

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Well it’s finally come time for me to sit down and write the long awaited Road the Riches post.  Many of you have been asking for more details for a while & have been patiently waiting for me to finish this post.   My apologies for not getting this done sooner.  It started as being too busy from the Time Travel Event to get down to the full details of it, but then turned into I was REALLY enjoying the downtime & really needed the battery recharge….and it was getting increasingly hard to have a desire to sit down and write a post like this.  But I’m here..and I’ve got it knocked out for you now…

(Truth be told…after nearly 4 years of doing this site (and writing over 2,700 of the over 4,500 posts on this site) I’m just tired.  Some days it’s a struggle to find the desire to write about or even play TSTO.  Of course I know that’ll change when the next event hits, but for now I’m enjoying the downtime..)

So, I’m sure most of you have already finished the Road to Riches waiting for me to get you the details…but for those that haven’t (or for those who are just getting there) here’s the 411 on Cecil’s expensive improvements….

Ok so let’s first start off with the basics…how do you trigger the Road to Riches?

Well, once you have $2,000,000 in your TSTO bank AND you’ve built at least one Aspirational item i.e. Escalator to Nowhere, Popsicle Stick Skyscraper, Cubic Zirconia, The Sunsphere, Sit-N-Rotate, Krusty Burger Oil Rig  or Fortress of Choclitude…you’ll unlock the Road to Riches tasks.

So bottom line?  If you’re looking for it..save your cash and build one of those items (I recommend The Sunsphere…it’s one of my favorites and comes with fun tasks for Bart, Milhouse, Martin & Nelson..plus it’s a reasonable price)

Now onto the finer details…what’s involved, how do you get it & what does it do…

It’s started with this dialogue:

Cecil: Fair Springfield, I’ve done you wrong in the past; but I hope you’ll forgive a young Terwilliger his foolishness.  Allow me another shot at adding to the beauty of your humble burg.
Bart: Get lost Sideshow, Jr. Last time you left the place in shambles.
Cecil: Thus driving down home prices! A positive boon for any young couple searching for their starter home.

As a reminder you can access the Road to Riches tasks (once you’ve unlocked them) at any time via the Daily Challenges tab (just click on the green icon (that looks like money))…

So what is Road to Riches? It’s similar to Money Mountain (in that you throw money at these items) and a prize track (in that you follow along and unlock different prizes for completing each task).

Cecil Terwillger is the key to all of the tasks.

So BE CAREFUL sending Cecil on tasks without checking first…otherwise you may find yourself out 10 million bucks.

And send Cecil on tasks that make sense for you.  Obviously 10 million over 8hrs is better than doing 1 million/hr…but otherwise do what makes sense for you.

Now onto the items!

The first item you’ll unlock is the Springfield Dam…because every town needs a Dam.  Mostly so you can have Dam tours…and make other fun Dam jokes.

Cecil: Citizens of Springfield, I have decided to right my previous wrong by completing the promised hydroelectric dam. I will make Springfield the greenest city in all of the lower forty-eight!
Mr. Burns: We tried this “green” madness once before. And were nearly destroyed by that visionary super-genius Elon Musk!  You sound just like him! Minus the near-indecipherable accent, of course.

Item: Springfield Dam
Unlocked At: 20 Million Invested
Size: 16×16
Conform-O-Meter: Vanity +100
What Does It Do?: It’s a Dam, it Dams. Animated when tapped, but also always animated.  (water runs) (when tapped the dam gets a crack)
Cool Thing About It?:
It lines up REALLY nicely with 1 row of the river…won’t work 2 rows thick.

From there it’s onto…

Cecil: A responsible society must from time to time embrace the redistribution of wealth.  Come on ninety-nine percent. Time to give, give, give to your betters!

Item: Mansion Gardens
Unlocked At: 40 Million Invested
Size: Multiple items, so multiple sizes…
Conform-O-Meter: Vanity +100 EACH component
What Does It Do?: This one is multiple parts.  It comes with a bunch of little accessories to make up the Mansion Gardens.  Included are: Mansion Gardens Statue, Mansion Gardens Gazebo (2), Mansion Gardens Square, Mansion Gardens Pillar (8), Mansion Gardens Planter (8), Mansion Gardens Pond, Mansion Gardens Tree Line (4) and Mansion Gardens Platform

This prize is all decorations, not as glamorous or “classic” as the other 2 items, but still LOADS of design possibilities with these.  Nice addition.

And this leads to our final Road to Riches prize….

Cecil: The outcry was negative on my last project, now I build for ALL the people.  And I’ll leave it up to the populace to decide the direction of my next project.
Bart: Blow up Springfield Elementary!
Otto: An arena! Where Deep Purple is forced to perform day and night for the rest of their natural lives!
Barney: So long as it has a bar, with free liquor and a strict no-AA Sponsors allowed policy, we’re good!
Cletus: And make Shelbyville pay for it!

Item: Rock and A Hard Place
Unlocked At: 80 Million Invested
Size: 9×14
Conform-O-Meter: Vanity +100
What Does It Do?: Nothing on it’s own, BUT Homer will have a 8hr task here (Experience Irony) and yes, it’s animated.
Fun Fact:
Mythbusters did an entire episode all about The Simpsons & Homer on the wrecking ball was one of the Myths they explored..

And that’s it my friends!  Once you’ve unlocked those 3 items (which will cost you 140 million in game cash…) there’s nothing else in the Road to Riches..for now.  Looks like they may add some more items in the future, but for now that’s it.  Just those 3 and call it a day…

What are your thoughts on the Road to Riches?  Have you finished it? Working on it? Just started it? What have you done with the items you’ve unlocked?  What do you plan to do? Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. Cecil stole 100 million from me..he was ok with 300…but the 100 million I just did doesn’t register

  2. EA need to explain why they still haven’t updated this after years of waiting. Chris is right, a lot of people have invested a lot of time/money into this quest and in return EA have clearly given up on it with absolutely no intention of doing any more!

  3. I felt like they should’ve at least finished the quest.. Only due to the generous people that put all that money and all the time it had consumed. But overall it was good 👍

  4. I recently completed the dam and placed in my Springfield, and connected it to a river that ran down to the shore. It looked cool. However, not long after, the water from the dam and the whole length of the river is dark green-blue and there’s clouds of steam/toxic gas around the dam. Is that normal?

  5. I’m only 10 mil away from a rock and a hard place. Can’t wait to see what’s next.

  6. Davemion Richardson

Its gonna take alot of time to get to 140 million

  7. I finally got around to doing this, reached 20 million and nothing happened. No dam in my inventory, no message or text box to tell me that I’d completed it, nothing. The quest line indicates that I’ve unlocked it though. Any ideas?

  8. I came back to remind myself how much the final item cost me. I earned it back in late April and am very happy with all three. Now my focus is on building up my xp, but I still hold out hope for a new prize on which to spend cash.

  9. I was getting fed up with searching the right tasks for Cecil, si I had him stored for a while. Now that I want to continue, the “Road to Riches” has disappeared from my daily tasks. I can however send Cecil on the 1 million task (haven’t got the 5 mil or 10 mil tasks).

I still have at least one Aspirational item in my Springfield, and have currently $9,000,000 in my TSTO bank. Is there anything I can do?
I tried storing all aspirational items and then replacing one, but that did not help… I have not contacted EA yet…

    • Seems like you can only send him on jobs that won’t go over the cost of the next item. Say, you’re at 31m and need 40m, you can’t send him on 10m, but only on 5m and 1m tasks.

  10. When i go to the road to riches page it says invest to unlock but when I actually click on Cecil none of his jobs to invest come up. Ive got several of the aspirational buildings and over €100 million, so any ideas why its not working?

  11. Any updates on Road to Riches? Expensive but very cool items! I’ve been waiting forever

  12. I’m still ticking this over very slowly. It’ll be April, I reckon, before I get the Rock and A Hard Place. I am interested in uptake. I have a small (but cherished) group of neighbours and only one has the Springfield Dam. What about the rest of the community? Have many collected all three?

    • I have collected all 3. Only the Dam really thrilled me.

    • I’ve collected all three. I like the dam, and I used the mansion gardens to spruce up my Sungazer Studio grounds. Rock and a hard place was only used once. Homer is always too busy.

  13. I didn’t receive all the thing I was supposed to for the millionaire gardens. I also can’t find my millionaire statue after tucking into my inventory. Anybody else experience this?

  14. I still love having this in the background. I’m (very) slowly working away on it, adding money when I can. The dam is one of the best things I’ve acquired in this game. I am a KEM Farmer so don’t generate a lot of surplus cash on a weekly basis – but what I do goes onto this. I’m $10 million into Mansion Gardens. As predicted, it will be months before I get the third prize, but I’m ok with that. It keeps me interested. I don’t play the junkyard – I prefer characters earn cash and XP and let my little farm do the donut work.

  15. Ugh… when will the new prize arrive?

  16. Okay, feeling stupid asking this, because I must be missing something obvious… How can I check my progress on this? I still have the tasks in Cecil’s task list and I’m working towards Rock and a Hard Place (or at least I think I am, since I got the mansion gardens stuff), but I can’t find an icon to take me to the progress screen. Is this side activity still active? If not, they really should get rid of those tasks on his task list! If it is, then I should be able to track my progress, no?

    • You just have to click on the Daily Challenges icon in the top right (calendar with green check mark icon). Once the hub opens, you’ll see icons on the left of the hub, like the purple box with gold question mark for Daily Challenges, the blue icon with a monorail piece for the Rail Yard Project Board, and a green icon with dollar signs for Road to Riches.

  17. How do I get my 1m back 🙁 I accidentally tapped the stupid Cecil task and lost my money 🙁

    • Sorry, like they say in cards, “what’s been laid, has been played”. Can’t get that 1mil back. It wail stay towards your goal until you put the rest in.

      • Should be a warning, confirm spend or something, I just lost 10M

        • There is. It’s in your settings. Go to the Work Icon (Hammer and Saw) Click on the the little Cog at the top right of the screen that opens…and make sure “Confirm Donut Spend” is checked. Do this regularly…as it sometimes gets unchecked with an update.

  18. I can’t get the river to align like that. Mine insists on a space between the dam and a river. I ended up surrounding it by water, but can’t get river to touch it.

  19. Unlocked the Springfield Dam …. 1/2 way to the Mansion Gardens …. honestly, taking my time (because these Items take up a lot of space) as I continue KEM Farming before the Halloween Event (is EA going to poke fun of “back to school”? or deliver a surprise tied into the new Season? – only time will tell!)🍩

  20. An information that is missing is how many xp does it give when you place the dam and the other items and the building time. Some of the aspirational items give enough xp to get some donuts

  21. Thanks Alissa for this post. It really is appreciated and useful.

I really, really like the prizes. It is a lot of in-game cash, but it’s nice to have something going on in the background. I put a million on here and there (and like others have done so a couple of times accidentally) so I’ve only spent $7m on the dam. It will take me months to get these prizes but I’m ok with that.

And as my contribution to the ‘what triggers it’ conversation: I have the redwood, money pile, sunsphere and oil rig. I wouldn’t mind getting Sit n rotate one day – after I’ve spent this $133 million…

  22. Hello everybody ! This dam project has me really confused. I have been slowly putting money into the task and I finally got a yellow check mark on the first part of the task. I even got a message saying that I had completed that part of the construction and to continue giving more money for the gardens. But I don’t have the dam. What happened ? Did I do something wrong? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    P. S. I love this blog. Not only because of the hard work and time that Alissa puts into it, but also because I enjoy reading the comments you guys write. I have actually LOL many times. A couple of times my husband has caught me he just shakes his head leaves the room mumbling “I don’t even want to know” he has even threatened to take my Kindle away.. Can you imagine? He’s just kidding , he knows I’d go nnuts…….

  23. Not related, but reading comments made me realize something….I don’t have sideshow Bob!! I’m lvl 66, and his quest line never popped up! I searched the store and my inventory for a rake, and it’s nowhere to be found!!
    Any thoughts??

    Signed,
    Super-sad in Springfield!

  24. I gotta say I stored Cecil after a couple days after the Road to Riches triggered. I accidentally sent him in a 1hr task spending $1M several times and wont restore him until I have ~$50 or more.

  25. I believe the money mountain also counts as an aspirational item for the purposes of starting this questline. May be wrong, but it’s the only thing that makes sense to me.

    • If there is an aspirational component at all, then the redwood would also have to count, since I don’t have any of the ones listed in the post, nor money mountain, but I did compete the redwood.

  26. Unlocked the damn dam so I could have it at the top of the Nile. Not so impressed with the rest. I’d rather have the donuts for now

  27. I think having either mr. Burnes money mountain or the great red wood tree(at least i hope that there called that lol) completed works as well as i also do not have any of the aspirational items

  28. I never bought one of the Aspirational items but I got the Road To Riches tasks unlocked.

  29. Wow…4 donuts for neighbor visits today…thats a record😃.

  30. There is a “prize” in waiting. Is it safe to say it will cost 160 million?
