Should I Spend Donuts on the Jazz Hole & Bleeding Gums Murphy?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Hope you’ve got your dancing shoes on and your cell phones ready to light up the night because Homerpalooza has arrived in Springfield!  That’s right the rock fest has begun!  Our stores are now jam-packed with premium items just tempting us to drop our sprinkles on!

Of course with that limited-time label it can be tempting to grab everything in sight because it’ll be gone soon.  But don’t sweat it!  That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth those donuts and what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add the Jazz Hole and BGM to your Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding this heavenly Jazz duo to your town…

Character: Bleeding Gums Murphy
Building/Decoration: The Jazz Hole
Donut Cost: 165 Donuts
Earns: $135/15xp/4hrs
Size:
4×8
Conform-O-Meter:
Gluttony +10
Jam Session Star Rating:
Starts out with a rating of 2.5 stars (can be used for all 3 acts)

Leaves stores September 12th

Pros
-It’s Bleeding Gums Murphy, one of the BIGGEST requested characters in recent memory (this of course is after some other characters made the game), behind only Troy McClure (or any Phil Hartman Character)
-Big help with Jam Sessions, starts out earning at a higher rate than the others

Cons
-Not voiced
-Pricey for a character/building combo

Final Thought
Premium:
It doesn’t really matter what I say here, most of you that are premium players already picked BGM up, simply because it’s BGM.  I know many of you (Patric included) were prepared to spend over 200 donuts for him, so to see him at 165 donuts felt like a steal and you grabbed him immediately.  I get it. That’s why your a premium player.  To jump on the characters you want.  And truth be told, I got him too.

Freemium:
Here’s the deal on this one…while yes, it is Bleeding Gums Murphy he’s over priced. WAY over priced.  Yes I know 165 is way less than what many of you thought he would be, but from a practical sense it’s over priced.  And in recent months we’ve seen characters return at a discounted rate (or in Mystery Boxes).  So personally, if I was a Freemium player I’d wait on BGM.  The Sungazer combo comes with TWO characters to help with the event (Act 1) & it’s cheaper.  That’s a far better deal than this one, if you’re buy it for a practical purpose.
Of course being that it’s Bleeding Gums Murphy I’m sure most of you aren’t paying attention to practical purposes and you’ve already jumped on him. BUT if you haven’t…I’d pick up the Sungazer duo instead and wait until the end of the event to get BGM.  If you still have the donuts and want him, then get him at the end but pass for now.

Of course in the end it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would or wouldn’t do…and as I premium player I can tell you I’ll be picking him up.   But whatever you decide, just make sure you make your final decision before he leaves our games for good (or for now).

Here’s a look at his tasks…

Bleeding Gums Murphy’s Permanent Tasks:

Task Length Earns Location
Catch Up on Modern Music 1hr $105, 26xp Brown House
Play Jazz 4hrs $260, 70xp Outside/Visual
Hoard Faberge Eggs 8hrs $420, 105xp Outside/Visual
Listen to Sax on the Beach 12hrs $600, 150xp Jazz Hole
Hangout and Jam 24hrs $1,000, 225xp Jazz Hole

What are your thoughts on Bleeding Gums and the Jazz Hole?  Will you be spending the donuts to bring them to your Springfield? Did you already?  Why or why not?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. There isn’t a duo w Lisa task ?!?!??

  2. Me: You know Alissa is right about the cost
My Simpson’s brain: but it’s bleeding gums murphy!
Me: 165? And it’s not even voiced!
My Simpson’s brain: how well do u even know her? Who are you gonna listen to her? Or me?
Me: nope she makes sense. It will come back in the vault for much less, I hope u understand
My Simpson’s brain: what? I wasn’t listening I just confirmed the purchase.

    • Same here. I literally didn’t even scroll past him in the shop to see what all was available before hitting confirm. I regret nothing.

  3. Bleeding Gums and the Jazz Hole

There’s a reason to KEM Farm, it’s for heavily requested Springfield Characters like this (yes the Sungazer Duo may offer more for your Bonuts / Donuts – but a non voiced Murphy is better than a NPC)!😄

    • …but the Sungazer Duo comes with two PLAYABLE characters *and* the vehicle comes with a % bonus (albeit a small one); the characters are NOT NPCs, & they are NOT bound together a la Sherri&Terri, so you’re getting TWO premium earning characters, that both play the Rock Stage.

OTH…it’s freakin’ BLEEDING GUMS MURPHY! 😍

  4. Do we do his quest during the event to help earn event currency or wait until after the event?

  5. I love the episode when Bleeding Gums passed away and he and Lisa were friends and she sang Jazzman. I just had to get him.

  6. Hey Kids meet grandpa Murphaaaay. Aw but we have three grandpas already!

Also has anyone noticed that you can’t place roads on the new land to the south east?

I bought BGM cause the kids today don’t know what the jazz is all about! ( sorry this episode is in my top 10 fav)

  7. BGM a no brainer…….what i would like is his ghost cloud effect as a task?…mm havent actually had him jam with Lisa yet…..

  8. I first off nabbed the twofer of Freddy & Stevens as they were the closer and a darn good deal up for only 10 more days. They constituted a far greater ROI in the short game IMO. However, it’s bleedin’ Bleedin’ Gums Murphy! There’s no way I couldn’t get him!

    Just later on…

  9. Initially I decided I was going to buy BGM, but now you say he’s not voiced? And he spends three-fifths of his tasks in a building? No sale. I’m not playing this event so his currency-earning capabilities are irrelevant to me, so I will wait until he comes around again. And if he doesn’t I’m not bothered. Thanks for saving me 165 donuts.

  10. I’m a sucker for a sax so I bought BGM, plus it’s BGM! Lisa is my fav and she made me buy him now she has a mate to play sax with 😉.
I did buy bus & twins first better deal & extra for jam sessions. Farmed a few more donuts, now BGM in my town.

  11. Mostly fremium, I grabbed the 2 for 1. Best for me, and another vehicle!!

  12. My bottom line… BGM is a beloved classic character who’s appeared multiple times through the series. The Sungazer guys are a couple of one shot characters from an episode that isn’t one of my favorites is built around 80s arena rock, which I don’t like. BGM will make me smile every time I see him in my town. After the event, the other 2 will be just another couple of generic characters cluttering up my Springfield. This is a game. It’s about having fun, so I’m buying the character that will make me happy, not the ones that will help me tediously grind through an event.

    • perhaps Alissa should just tell you to buy whatever makes you happy for every SIB, and save herself the trouble of trying to be objective….

      • I kind of worried people would take this as a criticism of Alissa. I know she provides a practical breakdown in these SIBs, and I usually find them very helpful. I honestly rarely buy a premium character without reading the SIB. Heck, Alissa even acknowledges in the SIB that a lot of people are going to throw practicality out of the window for this one. My comment was more a response to the number of comments that basically say why would you even think about buying BGM over the Sungazer guys.

I’ll add that EA probably had this discussion themselves, and that’s why the characters were released the way they were, because it gives players more incentive to buy both. If the Sungazer guys weren’t a better deal and more limited time, a lot of players might not bother with them.

  13. You have to ask: “Should I buy”? LOL. OMG. This was an automatic buy if there ever was one.

  14. I picked him up: I like him and the building. I am delighted the faberge egg task is visual – that’s a bonus. However, I have decided to sit the rest of this Act – and possibly the Event – out as I’m just not feeling it! There are some good craftables so I’ll tap fans if I see them but that will probably be it: regular old TSTO for me.

  15. Bought him the second he became available. LOL

  16. Like most others I HAD to buy him immediately. TBH given how much everyone wanted him I think EA we’re pretty fair at 165 donuts, I was expecting him to be much more, Herb was 200.

  17. Good points there. Since I am struggling a bit so far earning in the event, maybe the pair was better. But BGM is more appealing, so if I could only get one or the other, I chose BGM.

  18. Apologies if this has already been answered. Am I better off using BGM for the jam sessions or finishing his quest line?
Thank you. I love this site.

  19. I bought the “twins” a couple of days ago. I bought BGM this morning. I should earn Weird Al in three hours. I should earn the first Character in the prize line by the end of today.

That should put me in a comfortable earning position.
And at that point, I can relax.

Got BGM this time around. Don’t mind paying the extra Donuts now, as he is beneficial for this event and I don’t want to chance that a future offer for him, although likely for less Donuts, might be in a Mystery Box. Really don’t like those things.

  21. The way I look at it is, is yes the other 2 guys are cool but BGM can be used through them all whereas they cannot so to me its kinda a better buy especially cause how much everyone wanted him.
