Where Did THAT Come From – Covercraft Sungazer stuff

For those about to rock (cannon sound)… we salute you!

In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where Did THAT Come From?

It’s time to rock out with our socks out in all of our tiny tappable towns and this fuzzy hominid could not be more thrilled. Hey howdy hey friends. Wookiee popping with one of my favorite parts of being a writer here at this amazing site. That’s right… new stuff for me to talk about just WHERE it all comes from in the Best. Show. Ever. I’m always a fan of new things even though a lot of the coolest things cost precious sprinklies. The 2017 Homerpalooza Event started with a bang (literally with a free cannon) and then went full Rock. As usual, new additions mean it’s time for me to stop eating cheetos in my recliner while working on my weekly podcast and get to writing about the origins for it all. It’s always a pleasure to re-watch episodes of the Best. Show. Ever. For this round of origins,we’ll be taking a look at a whole bunch of items:

Sungazer Studios w/ Peter Dabruzzio – seventh Act One prize for 48,300 bracelets
Freddie Freeman & Shredder Stevens – came w/ Sungazer Tour Bus for 150 donuts
Nick Delacourt – fifth Act One prize for 27,500 bracelets
Rock Stage – freemium outdoor concert venue

“Covercraft” (S26:E8)

Homer becomes a bass man after King Toot’s is ruined in an epic fight between Moe and King Toot over dumpster usage. Fun stuff and yay for Moe sticking up for himself.

Of course, just a music store closure isn’t enough to put a four-stringed rock instrument in Homer’s hands. It’s Lisa’s saxomaphone needs aka reeds that lead the two Simpsons to search elsewhere. They find what they need at the big box music store… Guitar Central (an item already in game courtesy of an episode tie-in). It’s there that Homer is convinced he needs all sorts of stuff to be a rocker. Homer has the muscular stumps of a bassman according to Stig the salesman. I find this funny considering what Homer once did to Elvis Costello but oh well. Homer ends up leaving the store with tons or rock accoutrements.

Homer’s bass playing drives Marge a little batty so there’s only one thing to be done. Find comfort venting to her lady friends where they all decide the men should jam together in a band. The guys can enjoy their new mid-life crisis instruments in one garage at a time.

The only thing left for their get out of the house band is a singer… Apu. Turns out he can sing amazingly since he often sang “Open For a Dream” by Sungazer while working. His voice “sounds nothing like terrible terrible World music” and Covercraft was born. A band to rock out at all the cabbage festivals of Springfield.

Like any story though… happiness can’t roll on for everyone. A “pretty unforeseen development” happens and Apu’s sultry tones come to the attention of the band they’ve been covering… Sungazer. We first meet them in their studios right in my neck of the woods… Hollyweird, errrrr, Hollywood. Initially this looks just like a swanky mansion but once we see the shadowy form of the band, we know this is just one heck of a fancy recording studio.

The band is so interested that Freddie Freeman, Shredder Stevens, Nick Delacourt, and Peter Dabbruzio come to Homer’s house to recruit Apu. They need him to replace Peter LeDavid who passed away from autoerotic asphyxiation.

Much to Homer’s chagrin, Apu accepts the offer to go on Sungazer’s stadium tour and Mr. Nahasapeemapetilon is bound for a life of rock excess on the band’s tour bus complete with helicopter.

Before we feel too bad for the guys left behind let’s just be happy for Apu’s success.

You have to be happy for him since the truth of his rock star experience is revealed when it all comes to a conclusion when Sungazer’s World Tour comes to Springfield. The rock stage appears here. It was inside the Costington Center this whole time. Just turns out that TSTO ripped it out of a building so we could see it rather than imagine the tasks inside a building.

In fairness, this could be an amalgamation with the stage from Hullabalooza in “Homerpalooza” (S7:E24) but it makes me think of the more recent episode more, especially because of the screen in the back, the raised section in back, and the blue draping. The stacked speakers definitely look like Homerpalooza.

“Covercraft” is a decent episode that now brought rock n’ roll items to the game. I wrote a much more comprehensive recap once upon a time. Heck, the Wookiee who typed those words never thought we’d still be at it two and a half years later. I think it’s great fun that we can see four out of five of the Covercraft guys rocking on the stage. Even in TSTO Kirk gets no respect lol. What do you think of it all?
