Bracket Battle Pick’em Contest: Week 8 Leaderboard

Bonjour Brilliant Beautiful Building Bracket Battle Best Buddies,

(Today’s post is sponsored by the letter “B”)

As many of you know, the third edition of the Bracket Battle is back this summer. This time it’s to determine the most desired building in our Springfield’s. However, this time, we have an added pick’em contest to go along with the Bracket Battle and the Addicts have been kind enough to provide a prize of $10 USD gift card (or equivalent) to one winner from the United States and one International winner.

While it’s too late to enter the contest now, the original contest post with rules can be found here.

A quick recap of the contest:

  • Basically everyone who entered made their 63 picks for who will win the 63 head-to-head matchups.
  • Every correct Round 1 (weeks 1-4) matchup is worth 1 point.
  • Every correct Round 2 (weeks 5-6) matchup is worth 2 points.
  • Every correct Round 3 (week 7) matchup is worth 4 points.
  • Every correct Round 4 (week 8) matchup is worth 10 points.
  • Every correct Round 5 (week 9) matchup is worth 20 points.
  • And correctly predicting the winner in Round 6 (week 10) is worth 40 points.
  • The two people (1 from US, 1 international) with the most points at the end of the Bracket Battle each win a prize.

So who entered?

278 people entered the contest, plus we have four picks that are not eligible for prizes: Namely from our three Addicts and I also made my picks.

We received 179 contest entries from USA; 28 from Canada; 21 from UK (I included those who entered England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as UK); 9 from Australia; 5 from Germany and the Netherlands; 4 from Spain; 3 from Ireland; 2 from Austria, Belgium, Hungary, New Zealand, Slovakia, South Africa, and Sweden; and 1 entry apiece from Brazil, Czech Republic, Hong Kong, Macedonia, Mexico, Pakistan, the Philippines, Poland, Singapore, and Thailand.

But we’re all Addicts and the picks we made must all be the same, right?

WRONG!!!

All 282 entries had a unique combination of 63 picks winning their matchups (i.e. not even including the tiebreaker). Granted there are 1,329,227,995,784,920,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 unique entries that could have been made, but I thought there might be some consensus amongst Addicts. 40 of the 64 buildings were picked as winner of the title of the most desired building.

So how am I doing so far?

Here is the Leaderboard after Week 8 and with the end of Round 4 Quarter-Finals, sorted by points then alphabetically by name:

Congrats to Amy B (UK) who maintains a one point lead over Nida (Pakistan) for sole possession of first place. After the end of Round 4, Amy B has 116 of a maximum 136 points.

Another special shout out to Amy B (UK) and Nida (Pakistan) who were the only two people to correctly predict all 4 Semi-Finalists and to earn the maximum 40 points in Round 4!

So who picked who in Week 8?

Houses/Mansions #3 seed Troy McClure’s House (73% – 911 votes) defeated Apartments/Hotels #1 Moe’s Apartment (27% – 344 votes) in the Bracket Battle. 72 of the 282 entries (25.5%) predicted Troy McClure’s House to win this Quarter-Final. Quarter-Final runner-up Moe’s Apartment had the next most entries and was predicted by 42 people. 36 people predicted Round 2 loser Bouvier House. 25 people predicted Round 2 loser Murder House. And 23 people predicted Round 1 losers Homer and Mindy’s Dream Mansion and Birthplace of Matt Groening. Not one person thought Round 1 loser Aphrodite Inn would win this Quarter-Final.

Academic/Museums #1 Springfield University (64% – 799 votes) defeated Attractions/Landmarks #6 Mt. Splashmore (36% – 451 votes) in the Bracket Battle. 100 of the 282 entries (35.5%) predicted Springfield University to win this Quarter-Final. Quarter-Final runner-up Mt. Splashmore had the fourth most entries and was predicted by just 21 people. 50 people predicted Round 3 loser Praiseland. 37 people predicted Round 2 loser Krusty’s Clown College. And 16 people predicted Round 2 loser City Zoo. Only one person thought Round 1 losers Museum of Flight and Marine World would win this Quarter-Final.

Restaurants #2 The Pretzel Wagon (59% – 733 votes) defeated Bars/Clubs #3 CBGB (41% – 509 votes) in the Bracket Battle. Only 33 of the 282 entries (11.7%) predicted Pretzel Wagon to win this Quarter-Final [so pat yourself on the back if you’re one of them]. Quarter-Final runner-up CBGB had the tenth most entries and was predicted by a mere 8 people. The most popular pick, predicted by 52 people was The Slaughterhouse. Next, 50 people predicted Round 2 winner/Round 3 disqualified The Jazz Hole. 30 people predicted Round 2 loser Krusty Fried Chicken and Round 1 disqualified League of Extra-Horny Gentlemen. 21 people predicted Round 2 loser Kentucky Fried Panda. Not one person thought Round 1 loser One Night Stan would win this Quarter-Final, because we all knew EA would give it to us as part of Pride Event 🙂 .

Springfield Mall’s #1 I Can’t Believe It’s A Law Firm (51% – 636 votes) barely beat Businesses/Factories #3 Box Factory (49% – 613 votes) by just 23 votes in the Bracket Battle. However, the Pick’em was not nearly as close, as 80 of the 282 entries (28.4%) predicted I Can’t Believe It’s a Law Firm to win this Quarter-Final. Quarter-Final runner-up Box Factory had the third most entries and was predicted by just 28 people. 32 people predicted Round 3 loser Happy Sailor Tattoo Parlor. 23 people predicted Round 3 loser KrustyCo SweatShop. And 22 people predicted Round 2 loser The Creamatorium. Only three people thought Round 1 losers Springfield Laundromat would win this Quarter-Final.

60 of the 64 buildings were predicted by at least two people to win their respective Quarter-Finals. Only Museum of Flight and Marine World were predicted by one person, and Aphrodite Inn and One Night Stan’s were predicted by no one.

Well that’s it for this weeks pick’em contest leaderboard recap. With Round 5 correct predictions being worth 20 points each, don’t forget to vote on the Week 9 Bracket Battle matchups here. Voting is open until noon eastern this Thursday. And be sure to come back this Friday evening for Round 6 when the final Week 10 Championship matchup goes live.

How is your Bracket going? What did you do right and what did you do wrong? Are you doing better than the Addicts? Did points going up to 10 help or hinder you? You know we love hearing from you!

  1. WHOOOOHOOOOO!!! I’m solidly into the “Upper-Mid-100s!!!” I started this in the low 200s…and by simply choosing my heart, instead of trying to figure out what the “masses” would pick, I have stayed true…and garnered the results I deserve! My goal?

Oh. Wait. My goal to get Bleeding Gums and the Jazz Hole was already accomplished. So…my work here is done!

  2. Well, I got a nice little bump up this time….if the Jazz Hole hadn’t gotten released, I’ll bet I would have gotten all four of them right.

No chance of winning this thing, I’m sure, but, unless something goes horribly wrong in the next round, I’ll at least have made a respectable showing. 🙂

  3. Tucked in the peloton at joint 66th ready to pounce at last minute………. *realises last minute passed a while ago 😕*

    😀😃😄

  4. Wow, last week I said my next goal would be to beat Alissa, but more like “Yeah, right, that’s never gonna happen.” And this week, I actually did! Woot, woot!

  5. I feel like I’m on a roller coaster, one week I’m doing good and the next I’m dropping like a stone. Looks like I’m back on a upswing, can’t wait to see where I end up.

  6. I was never a contender, but oof, I’ve been dropping the past few weeks.

Oh well. Good luck to the top spots!
