Bracket Battle Pick’em Contest: Week 9 Leaderboard

Bonjour Brilliant Beautiful Building Bracket Battle Best Buddies,

(Today’s post is sponsored by the letter “B”)

As many of you know, the third edition of the Bracket Battle is back this summer. This time it’s to determine the most desired building in our Springfield’s. However, this time, we have an added pick’em contest to go along with the Bracket Battle and the Addicts have been kind enough to provide a prize of $10 USD gift card (or equivalent) to one winner from the United States and one International winner.

While it’s too late to enter the contest now, the original contest post with rules can be found here.

A quick recap of the contest:

  • Basically everyone who entered made their 63 picks for who will win the 63 head-to-head matchups.
  • Every correct Round 1 (weeks 1-4) matchup is worth 1 point.
  • Every correct Round 2 (weeks 5-6) matchup is worth 2 points.
  • Every correct Round 3 (week 7) matchup is worth 4 points.
  • Every correct Round 4 (week 8) matchup is worth 10 points.
  • Every correct Round 5 (week 9) matchup is worth 20 points.
  • And correctly predicting the winner in Round 6 (week 10) is worth 40 points.
  • The two people (1 from US, 1 international) with the most points at the end of the Bracket Battle each win a prize.

So who entered?

278 people entered the contest, plus we have four picks that are not eligible for prizes: Namely from our three Addicts and I also made my picks.

We received 179 contest entries from USA; 28 from Canada; 21 from UK (I included those who entered England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as UK); 9 from Australia; 5 from Germany and the Netherlands; 4 from Spain; 3 from Ireland; 2 from Austria, Belgium, Hungary, New Zealand, Slovakia, South Africa, and Sweden; and 1 entry apiece from Brazil, Czech Republic, Hong Kong, Macedonia, Mexico, Pakistan, the Philippines, Poland, Singapore, and Thailand.

But we’re all Addicts and the picks we made must all be the same, right?

WRONG!!!

All 282 entries had a unique combination of 63 picks winning their matchups (i.e. not even including the tiebreaker). Granted there are 1,329,227,995,784,920,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 unique entries that could have been made, but I thought there might be some consensus amongst Addicts. 40 of the 64 buildings were picked as winner of the title of the most desired building.

So how am I doing so far?

Here is the Leaderboard after Week 9 and with the end of Round 5 Semi-Finals, sorted by points then alphabetically by name:

Congrats to Amy B (UK) who maintains a one point lead over Nida (Pakistan) for sole possession of first place. After the end of Round 5, Amy B has 136 of a maximum 176 points.

Another special shout out to Kim (USA), Joseph L (USA), Timjimcarson (USA), Mario (USA), Garret S (USA), Chris Bu (USA), Boyce (USA), HennessyH (UK), Rick P (Canada), Nate (USA) and Kristina B (USA) who were the only eleven people to correctly predict both Finalists and to earn the maximum 40 points in Round 5!

So who picked who in Week 9?

Houses/Mansions #3 seed Troy McClure’s House (54% – 674 votes) defeated Academic/Museums #1 Springfield University (46% – 570 votes) in the Bracket Battle. 42 of the 282 entries (14.9%) predicted Troy McClure’s House to win this Semi-Final, the second most common prediction. Semi-Final runner-up Springfield University had the most entries and was predicted by 60 people. 39 people predicted Round 3 loser Praiseland (but those 39 people are probably excited itès now available in our games). 25 people predicted Round 2 loser Bouvier House. And 22 people predicted Round 2 loser Murder House. Not one person thought Round 1 losers Museum of TV and Television, Smooches on the Beach, Quantity Inn, Marine World, Second-Best Western, or Fort Springfield would win this Semi-Final.

Springfield Mall’s #1 I Can’t Believe It’s A Law Firm (71% – 876 votes) defeated Restaurants #2 The Pretzel Wagon (29% – 354 votes) in the Bracket Battle. 49 of the 282 entries (17.4%) predicted the Law Firm to win this Semi-Final, making it the most popular prediction. Round 2 winner and Round 3 disqualified Jazz Hole was the next most popular prediction with 46 people tabbing it to win this Semi-Final. Round 3 loser The Slaughterhouse was predicted by 32 people. Round 2 loser Kentucky Fried Panda was predicted by 15 people. 14 people each predicted runner-up Pretzel Wagon, Round 4 loser Box Factory, and Round 1 disqualified League of Extra-Horny Gentlemen. Not one person thought Round 1 loser One Night Stan’s would win this Semi-Final (because we all knew EA would give it to us in the Pride mini-event and it would be disqualified from the Contest).

Well that’s it for this weeks pick’em contest leaderboard recap. With the final Round 6 correct Champion prediction being worth 40 points, don’t forget to vote on the Week 10 Bracket Battle matchup here. Voting is open until noon eastern this Thursday. And be sure to come back this Friday evening for the unveiling of the Champion and winner of the title of most desired building.

How is your Bracket going? What did you do right and what did you do wrong? Are you doing better than the Addicts? Did points going up to 20 help or hinder you? You know we love hearing from you!

  1. Awesome! T-17 with Safi on this round.. Nice to see a fellow Filipino tapping here.. 🇵🇭 🇬🇧

  2. This was so much fun to participate in. Thanks for doing this!

  3. A real roller coaster ride… up, down, up, down… But from here on out there is nowhere to go but down, if I remember correctly I predicted the Jazz Hole to win this thing. But it was nice to play, I enjoyed this format immensely; the bracket battle combined with the contest and the weekly leader boards. Because, let’s be honest, my frazzled brain forgot what I picked the minute I sent in the form, and every week I was surprised again by how accurate or inaccurate my picks were. 😉

  4. Whoo-Hoo….got my own spot…not sharing with anyone….whoo-hoo 😉
