Should I Spend Donuts on the Cheddarbarrel Combine?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

It’s nearly Fall in Springfield and of course, that means it’s time for Fall Harvest!  Nothing says Fall Harvest quite like a good old County Fair! A nice relaxing way to slowly bring Springfield back to normal after the crazy music fest!  But of course a new event, no matter how small, means our stores are now jam-packed with premium items just tempting us to drop our sprinkles!

Of course with that limited-time label, it can be tempting to grab everything in sight because it’ll be gone soon.  But don’t sweat it!  That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth those donuts and what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add the Cheddarbarrel Combine to your Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding this farm utility vehicle to your town…

Building/Decoration: Cheddarbarrel Combine
Donut Cost: 45 Donuts
Earns: 2% Bonus on all cash and XP
Size:
 4×4
Conform-O-Meter:
Tree-Hugging +200
Unique?: No, buy as many as you’d like

Leaves stores September 26th

Pros
-Animated when tapped.  Lights turn on, engine revs and it bales 1 bale of disappearing hay.
-Decent bonus % for donuts spent

Cons
-No character interaction, so outside of the animation when tapped not much happens with it
-Doesn’t move.  It should move, but it doesn’t. Would be neat if this moved around, if only in a small pattern, when tapped.

Final Thought
Premium:
It’s fun, bonus % is decent…i’d buy it. (but only 1)

Freemium:
It’s a fun item, for sure, but if you’re low on donuts this may be something you want to hold off on it.  At the end of the day, it’s just a decoration.  Usually, character/buildings take higher priority for freemium donuts.  Plus I’d rank the Paralyzer over this one…

Of course, in the end, it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would or wouldn’t do…and as I premium player I can tell you I’ll likely pick it up.  I like the look and it’ll work well with a farm design…if I ever get the chance to work on it.  But whatever you decide, just make sure you make your final decision before it leaves our games for good (or for now).

Here’s a look at the dialogue it comes with…

Dangerous Combination

Martin: Oh! My trusty harvesting friend has arrived. But this time I will hide the keys so Bart does not destroy the countryside with it.
Bart: About that…I may have already driven through the Springfield Scarecrow Exhibit.

  1. Someone Stole my Burrito ™

Cool thing about this decoration is you can make it look like it’s plowing a field of wheat or corn by laying a path of plowed field behind it.

  2. Ooh thank goodness I didn’t listen to my hubby and purchased a Galaxy tablet instead of a new Ipad when my Ipad 2 wouldn’t go past ios 9.3.3! Crisis averted!!!

  3. Bought one, fits right in with all the new fields we got. The only thing missing now are hay/straw bales, would have really liked some for the farm as well as the fair.

  4. Well it looks like I am now a lemming. 🙄🙁. I play on a Apple product, did the update, and now my game is stuck on Lisa’s dialog with Moe, over and over again.

  5. I want this for my new farm area, but sadly I won’t be able to save up enough donuts in time.

  6. I couldn’t resist. It just fit in my design.

  7. Totally off topic. I’m sorry. I finally decided to get Santa’s little helper today. Much to my surprise, he has a full range of tasks. I always thought he was just a NPC. Is this something new?

    • They added tasks for him probably a year and a half ago or so…a bunch of NPCs got tasks as well. (and yes, I know the SIB post needs to be updated..it’s on the list.)

    • The tasks were actually added a few days right after he was available for half price during Black Friday. I never buy NPCs, so I didn’t spend any donuts on him. And alas, just a few dozen hours later, he was a playable character.

    • I just bought him last week & was surprised he had tasks. Got Stampy & Jub Jub as well recently! Nice to have some animals around town.

Off the wall question Alissa, I’ve been hearing more and more that the new upcoming ios 11 update will not be compatible with the Simpsons game. Any word on your end??

    • I have not heard anything, but it wouldn’t surprise me. It’s happened at least one other time. Just wait to update until all your non ios apps are able to get compatible

thanks it was released today. but I waited. Im glad I did.

      • would be useful if someone posted after updating to IOS11 to confirm whether TSTO is OK.

        • That would require someone to be the sacrificial lamb I guess. Don’t look at me. I don’t use Apple products, overpriced and they underperform.

          • I’ve been using the public betas since the beginning; there were some rough spots for awhile, but TSTO was only rarely affected. You should be fine to update to iOS 11.

          • Not asking for a Lamb, more of a Lemming. Someone who took the leap without thinking. How did they get on?

Underperform? really? My iPad Pro is performing just fine 🙂

          • @Alissa: I have no idea why some people might be reporting issues; I just put in a few minutes to rotate out my 4-hour tasks, about an hour ago on my iPhone 6, running iOS 11.

How significant are these issues? I mean, I do experience minor stuttering now and then in TSTO — but I also saw that issue prior to iOS 11, and they’re sometimes more noticeable during major events. Those kind of issues can usually be cleared up by changing over to the multitasking screen, dismissing TSTO and then reopening it. (One of the troubleshooting tips I got from you, ironically.)

And are the people reporting issues using older devices, by chance? I don’t have any devices older than my 6, (which will also support iOS 11) but just to add at least one more data point, I’ll go ahead and upgrade my iPad Air 2 (which is still on iOS 10) when I get home today, and report back whether or not I see any issues.

        • Fortunately/unfortunately, I’m not allowed to update my iPad until my company does all of its testing and tells me I can (since it’s a work laptop). I don’t think that TSTO is on the list of apps my company tests against, though… 😉

At any rate, hopefully, by the time I get the go-ahead, everything will have been fixed on the TSTO end.

      • Well, my iPad is now updated and runs TSTO without any issues. I also glanced at that other thread, and none of the described scenarios sound familiar; hopefully, they simply turn out to be one-off temporary issues, which are as quickly resolved as michael’s wife’s issue.

  9. I bought 4….call me crazy….but I’m a designer w/ a large farm in mind…and I grew up around hay farms.

On an unrelated note: I seriously wish that the cheddarbarrel farm let us do 1 plot of hay, corn, and plowed land all at once.. So slow getting stuff made…>.<

    • I agree. I also wish you could place it on top of a plowed square, so you could stage it to look like it’s making progress.

  10. I picked up two. One for my farm section and the other for my fair grounds.

  11. 1st World problem, do I get this or the paralyser? Both would fit nicely in my town. By the leasure district and by the up and coming farming district. Bonus % is about the same. Which would you recommend?

  12. Being down to 137 donuts after buying Luke and the Paralyzer, I’m going to pass. Might have to buy more for Halloween. At the moment, I’m holding off, if I buy any more donuts I’ll end up spending them. 😂😂

  13. Have been waiting for this post to help me decide. Decided not to use donuts on this but did get the paralyser. Just waiting on the SIB for the building now which I’m not sure about.

  14. I love it! Bought it with the donuts I earned via daily challenges and what not. Looks cool in my little farm setup, have it combining the wheat fields.

  15. I think it looks really good and of course it fits so well with all the county fair prizes. I bought one but might get an extra. 🙂
