Should I Spend Donuts on Sorcerer Frink?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Fall has arrived and there’s a haze over our Springfield’s, that can only mean one thing….it’s Halloween in our pocket-sized towns! This year EA’s thrown a little magic into the mix, with an Angelica Button theme invading our towns.  An all-new event means loads of new premium items in our stores just tempting us to drop those donuts while they’re hot!

Of course with that limited-time label, it can be tempting to grab everything in sight because it’ll be gone soon.  But don’t sweat it!  That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth those donuts and what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add Sorcerer Frink to your Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding this scientific magician to your town…

Character: Sorcerer Frink (costume for Frink
Bundles:
If you already have Professor Frink you’ll just get an offer for the costume, if you don’t already have Frink you’ll have a bundle option for Frink, his Lab and the Costume
Frink, Lab & Sorcerer Frink: 150 Donuts
Sorcerer Frink Stand-Alone: 100 Donuts

The rest of this post will only focus on Sorcerer Frink as a Stand-Alone.  However, if you’re being offered the bundle it’s a pretty good deal.  Info on Frink + Lab can be found here.

Leaves stores November 14th

Pros
-Another character for the Serfsons Character Collection
-Fun outdoor animated tasks
-Helps fight beasts and Lord Montymort

Cons
-Expensive for just a costume for Frink
-All of his tasks or either outside or at his lab, won’t utilize other buildings

Final Thought
Premium:
Meh. Expensive with only a small benefit for the event.  At the end of the day it’s still Frink, you’re not adding a new character to Springfield. (And Frink’s already a premium character).  So I’d pass and spend your donuts on one of the other premium character offerings.

Freemium:
This one is hard for me to get behind for the freemium player.  Bit pricey for a costume.  I’d pass.

Of course, in the end, it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would or wouldn’t do…and as I premium player I can tell you I’ll likely be passing.   But whatever you decide, just make sure you make your final decision before it leaves our games for good (or for now).

Here’s a look at his tasks…

Conduct CrazyMagical Experiments 12hrs $420, 105xp Frink’s Lab

  1. Need some opinions here. I don’t have Frinks, thus got offered the bundle. I know it’s said to be a good deal, but I’m kinda torn between buying the bundle and saving my donuts for the xmas event (and/or any other stuff that might pop into stores before then). So… Should I buy the bundle, or save it for the xmas event?

  2. I was very disappointed with the price for this. I bought Frink and his lab years ago, love that character. When I saw that Frink was gonna get a sorcerers costume I was looking forward to it, it looks great! Then it showed up, and the costume by itself is 100 Donuts. Man, I just can’t justify spending 100D on a costume. Even if he was originally freemium and this would give him premium returns, I dunno that I could justify the cost. Premium to premium costume? No thanks. #Sad.

  3. If you don’t have Professor Frink and his Lab ? It’s not a bad Donut Price – but don’t get this for the Wizard Skin (good grief, EA, we don’t need another Character to Battle anything this late in the Event!)

  4. Got the bundle, seemed like a good deal to me!

  5. These are the deals that have made me just stop buying any premium items unless they are discounted. Having previously purchased Frink, EA basically wants me to pay 250 donuts for the same bundle someone can pay 150 for now. Sorry this whale ain’t playing that no more.

  6. With Skin 150 Donuts without Skin 150 Donuts

    Instant buy for me

Hahaha this game has no sense

  7. Giovanna Melendez

Magic Academy Library or Professor Frink?

  8. I did not have Professor Frink yet and combo was too good to pass up. The bonus Donuts at Halloween put me at exactly 152 donuts. So I snapped it up.

  9. At the beginning of this event I read on another site that frink was going to be on offer for 150 donuts. So i have been saving all my bonuts up and my cash if needed. This was one of the few items that was a must buy as far as I am concerned. Now i am just waiting to see what black Friday brings us.

  10. I love all things magic. I love all things fantasy. I love all things castle-y. This is just overpriced awesomeness!

    • I really like your enthusiasm about this event! Sometimes it feels like I am the only one who likes it, good to know that’s not the case. 🙂

      • I like it too, I LOVE Harry Potter/ fantasy stuff😌

      • I love it too!

      • I quite enjoy it as well (yes, including the crafting even though I have half the items!). Even though it is not TRUE THOH and I would have liked to have got the mutant frog prince. I have quite the magical university going on. I haven’t created a full on section like this WHILE the event was going on since last THOH. Most often I put stuff kinda together after the fact.

I just might make the Springfield showoff this time!!

  11. i wouldve gotten this skin… if martins didnt have a better deal since hes discounted. and even then i didnt get martins skin since i wanna have him focus on bottle duty since i already have milhouses skin to do the event.

  12. Seems like a good deal if you don’t have Professor Frink. 100 doughnuts for a character skin for Act 3….total pass for me.

  13. It is a decent price if you don’t have the frink / lab bundle yet because for 150 it comes with the lab / frink / skin

    • You sure it comes with the lab?

      • Frink is associated with his lab. You cannot have one without the other.

        • Tell that to my mayan marge that did not come with mayan homer

          • When I say associated, I mean linked in the way that storing one also stores the other. Mayan Marge is not associated with any building, object, or other character. I’m not saying she was bundled correctly, but the programming allowed that problem by defining her as an individual item. The programming would not allow a character to be sold without its associated building. As such, Frink will absolutely include the lab, by definition.

            • Oh so it was that the bundle i got during traveller time toaster just included the calendar and mayan Marge. But since the calendar was related with the aztec god instead of Mayan Homer the quest got stuck. Bad EA

  14. Hi Alissa,
I’ve held off buying Professor Frink for ages patiently waiting for some sort of sweet bundle or other offer.
Obviously getting this bundle would give me the Sorcerer costume for free but as I ain’t really that mad over it do you think a better one might come along if I be a little more patient?
    Grazie mille

  15. I passed and as it stand right now with just normal tapping I got Slithers this morning. That’s without Fink Skin.
So the moral of the story is.. you don’t need this to get better event currency.

  16. Huge let down

  17. I got it. I’m a sucker for the skins though. I just like sending them on jobs because they look fun. I’m the game for fun not % points and math.

  18. When I saw the price I thought this one was a stand alone character, but 100 donuts for just a skin? That’s just ridiculous! 🙄🙄🙄

  19. There is not much incentive to spend 100 donuts on a character skin that is premium already. The only way these premium offered skins become viable to freemium players is if they add another 50% on top of the already premium earn. 100 donuts is a very hard pass. This will ultimately get relegated to a mystery box next year for 50 donuts… I like 25 donuts for this. 25 donuts is still a hard number to attain for noobs too.

They seem very focused on veteran players with their price scheme. This goes back to Patric’s poinient article on why we keep playing and EA removing the incentive to keep going and or spending money on the game.

I got Frink on discount during the future event last Februaryish to boot…

    • 4kidsandacatdog

Much as I’d like another premium wizard to help defeat Montymort, I think I’ll wait for this skin to show up in a future HMB.

  20. 100 donuts is too much for me. I’ll wait and hopefully get him in the future for cheaper.
