What better way to spend your time than talking math. So from time-to-time, I’ll come to you with a post that delves into the wonderful world of numbers, stats, and/or strategies.
While we’ve previously discussed Springfield Downs and the Go Kart Track a couple months ago, over the next few weeks, we’ll continue to look at most of the Minigames found within our game. After discussing Claw Machine yesterday, we continue our journey today with the Scratch-R!
SCRATCH-R
[Note: Alissa wrote a wonderful post on the Scratch-R and Golden Scratch-R over 4 years ago that can be found HERE. I’ll basically re-iterate what she said for the Scratch-R and throw in some more calculations to average the profitability of this minigame venture.]
The Scratch-R minigame is played at a Kwik-e-Mart, and is similar to Sideshow You in Krustyland. It can be played once every 6 hours. The game cost $250 to play. In this minigame, the player scratches the 3 Scratch-R zones to reveal a pattern of Itchy and Scratchy’s favorite weapons of choices and wins a corresponding prize.
Here are the pattern of weapons and their corresponding prizes a player may scratch:

The rarest of these rewards with a 1% probability is three axes which yields $10,000 for a net profit of $9,750 after the initial $250 to play. Even the smallest prize awards you $350 on your initial investment of $250, for a profit of $100. Therefore, it is quite beneficial to continue to play the Scratch-R routinely.
Now for some profitability calculations.
If you play 100 times, it is expected that you would win:
($10,000 x 1) + ($2,500 x 4) + ($1,250 x 10) + ($750* 20) + ($500 x 32) + ($350 x 33) = $75,050
If you play 100 times, it is known that to play 100 times you would pay:
$250 x 100 = $25.000
With the difference of these two, your net profit after playing 100 times is:
$75,050 – $25,000 = $50,050
Therefore, on average, taking the few seconds it takes to play the Scratch-R will earn you a profit of just over $500 per play. Quite beneficial in my opinion.

Hey Safi, don’t suppose you have some stats info on the bonus level up screen. I.e. is there a predictable pattern that it follows so we can predict which box has the 3 donuts. I’ve been playing it long enough to get a gut feeling that there is some kind of pattern but I’m not sure.
It’s FREE money. Why not spend <5 seconds?
I know it’s odds based, but when I think about it….
I play this 3 times a day usually since I started. At 1% odds, that’s 90 or so plays a month. You would think I get three axes once every five weeks.
Been playing since May/14, I doubt I’ve got it 10 times (three of those in one week). I should have won it about 35 times.

I play whenever I see the icon. As a KEM farmer, that’s fairly regularly (3 times a day). So, I’d say I bring up 100 scratches at least every five weeks.
I don’t record the data so am going off impressions, but I don’t think I get the three axes more than 3 or 4 times a year – it’s a fairly rare occurrence.
This is a great game to help with income when you are fairly new to TSTO, but once you start talking about your stash in terms of millions (let alone tens of millions) of $, the payout just isn’t worth it. Haven’t played it in ages, except when I accidentally tap on it while clearing characters/houses.
Anybody remember the days when people used to be incredulous at posters who claimed they had over a million dollars. Ahh, those were the days!

Are the stats the same for the premium scratchers? Also, are premium scratchers a better donut investment than just purchasing donuts?
No, the stats for the Golden Scratch-R (as mentioned in Alissa’s post) are as follows:
3 axes = 100 donuts (2%)
3 cleavers = 50 donuts (4%)
3 mallets = 20 donuts (10%)
3 clubs = 12 donuts (20%)
2 bombs = 9 donuts (32%)
1 bomb = 6 donuts (32%)
If you play 100 times, it is expected that you would win:
(100 donuts x 2) + (50 donuts x 4) + (20 donuts x 10) + (12 donuts x 20) + (9 donuts x 32) + (6 donuts x 32) = 1,320 donuts
So an investment of $0.99 USD yields about 13.2 donuts.
Always have, always will.
I play but mostly because I can’t stand icons floating on my screen. The payout is so small I never pay attention
Such a floating icon screams to me:”TAP ME! TAP ME!”
i set my scratch-4 game next to the rail game, so that i don’t miss the $$ sign pop-up and play it at the same time when i check on my monorail progress. so far i’ve only hit the axes 2 times since i started playing. 🙁 those are some really bad odds.
I play Scratch-R whenever I happen to notice it’s available. Sometimes I get the grand prize. I hate the stupid bombs. 🙂

I play with my favorite method, the stumble upon. I stumble quite often.
Can you imagine if the other famous Rudolph stumbled his way around too? “Rudolph with your nose so bright, won’t you stumble my sleigh across the world tonight”. There sure would be a lot of happy Jewish, Muslim, and kids of other religious backgrounds with unexpected Christmas presents. But at the same time, stumbling Rudolph would result in a lot of disappointed children who should be expecting presents. So when it comes to your favourite method Rudolph, I have to quote Helen Lovejoy and say “Won’t somebody please think of the children!”
When my nephews and nieces when small, I was their favorite uncle. Presents with Sinterklaas (December 5th) and later with Christmas. They used to tease me with “Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer” song because I have the tendency to get a red nose after drinking 😁
I play this once a day when I collect all the daily cash etc.
I have won the ten grand quite a few times.
I play…mostly to clear the icon, but the money is OK, too.
My 7 year old, on the other hand, thinks this is THE COOLEST part of the game.
my 8 year old has to remove every little bit of scratch before she is satisfied. The look I get if I just hit collect is terrifying 😂
