Should I Spend Donuts on the Stonecutters’ Tunnel?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Christmas is gone but snowy Springfield is still here!   We’ve got an all-new mini- event to work our easy through.   (Politics and Stonecutters, what could go wrong?)  Of course, while the town is still frosty cold the store is hot, hot, hot…and loaded with new premium items just tempting us to spend our sprinkles!

As we all know, that limited-time label can tempt us to grab everything in sight because it’ll be gone soon.  But don’t sweat it!  That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth those donuts and what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add the Stonecutters’ Tunnel to your Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding this super secret shortcut to your town…

Building/Decoration: Stonecutter Tunnel
Donut Cost:
60 Donuts
Size:
12×6 (main tunnel), 8×6 (each additional tunnel piece)
Earns: 2.5% bonus on cash and XP
Conform-O-Meter:
Vanity +100 (Main Tunnel), Nothing for additional tunnels
Other Info:
Can be placed on the grass|pavement|boardwalk|pier|dirt|ice

Leaves stores January 16th, 2018

Pros
-Funny item from a classic episode
-Can build more tunnels off of it to make a large tunnel system in Springfield, each additional tunnel costs $2,000 and takes 3 hrs to construct

Cons
-Doesn’t do anything, aside from being a big decoration (which means no, it doesn’t transport you to another part of Springfield.  At least not from what I can tell)
-Bonus % is ok, but not spectacular.  The ideal is 1% or better for every 20 donuts.

Final Thought
Premium or Freemium:
Personally, although I love this episode, I’m passing.  It just doesn’t do enough for me to justify spending the donuts. So unless you really love the idea of a tunnel to nowhere….pass.

Of course, in the end, it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would or wouldn’t do…and as I premium player, I’m passing.   But whatever you decide, just make sure you make your final decision before it leaves our games for good (or for now).

Here’s a look at the dialogue it comes with…

Number 1: And that concludes the construction on our secret Stonecutter tunnel!
Homer: A tunnel that takes me away from traffic? Just thinking about it is giving me goosebumps!
Number 1: Yes, it is quite impress–Wait, those aren’t goosebumps, that’s a horrible rash! Have you been eating the leftover insulation from the super-secret construction site?!
Homer: I thought it was super-secret cotton candy!

What are your thoughts on the Stonecutter’s Tunnel?  Will you be spending the donuts to bring them to your Springfield? Did you already?  Why or why not?  Where have you placed it in your town? Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. The ONLY reason why I did not get this item is because of it s SIZE. (and I really liked it) Way too big in scale. I dont know what EA was thinking. You cannot use it on anything, literally. (well, maybe on the side of a mountain, you know, for all those giants in Springfield)

  2. Could anyone please fill me in on whether i can place monorail tracks thru this? I have my track going directly behind my stonecutters area and would love to add thus behind there and have it be likr a monorail tunnel.

  3. Stonecutter’s Tunnel – I had my eye on this, until realizing that it’s just Decoration – with zero Tasks involving Stonecutter Springfield Characters (nice try EA, but nope!) 👎

  4. Josephine Kick@$$

    I got & love it 😊
Anything that goes over the roads is cool to me! Now we just need a few Bridge(s) Over Troubled Water(s) 😂

  5. I bought this, more to be complete all my Stonecutter stuff more than anything. It would be fine if it weren’t so damned oversized. It’s almost as big as the Stonecutter Temple itself. I think I will eventually place it alongside the mountains and pretend the tunnel comes out somewhere inside the temple.

  6. In two minds, like the look of it but don’t want to many, pricey for a freemium player

  7. Definitely off-topic but I just need some quick feedback

If one wants to LEVEL UP quickly to reach closer to level 939, which is better: Purchasing & selling Bloodmobiles OR purchasing & selling Rat Trap Delivery Trucks?

Yes, I know about KEM farming, but I’m not interested in farming donuts. I’m just interested in leveling up quickly

So which of these decorations offers MORE/BETTER value for money/XP: Bloodmobiles or Rat Trap Delivery Trucks?

And yes, I’ll have the XP Collider turned on for 24 hours, when I buy/sell the above

All are welcome to reply (Safi, if you are reading this, I would really appreciate your opinion, as you’re the resident maths whiz here =DD)

    • IIRC, the xp return is slightly better on rat trap trucks, but bloodmobiles are faster and the difference is negligible. However, one reason people use KEMs is because it has the best dollar-to-xp ratio in the game, even after the price goes up. If you have the space, building a few hundred KEMs is probably the best way.

    • You more Bloodmobiles than Rat Trap Delivery Trucks. The latter gives you more XP. In the end it makes no difference.
      (I am a long time 939 leveler and a 2B Club member)

    • Rat Trap trucks have a slightly (and I do mean slightly – a percent of a percent) better XP return. Also, they cost more, so I can buy fewer and line up fewer in the same amount of space. I usually buy 33 at a time (to net 100 donuts), so I need a couple squares of empty space to line them up…not always an issue, but it does happen.

  8. I bought it and made a few pieces from it and it does go over roads and paths. Not water. Only the main tunnel gives the bonus, not any additional sections. Kind of big and I will keep it around for awhile.

  9. Another con is that there are no curved tunnel segments – so you can only build your tunnel in a straight line. Made it tough to connect my Stonecutter section to SNPP like I wanted to.

    • This is a helpful comment. I was about to buy it beacuase I had a plan in mind, but if I can only go in straight lines I think I will pass. Thanks.

  10. I bought it and I like it, only minor is can’t be placed over water

  11. I have every Stonecutter item thus far, but I don’t think I’ll get this. It’s enormous so it would block stuff, and it can’t go through the mountains or around corners as far as I can tell. The entrance looks cool, but… I just don’t know what to do with this if I can’t put it in the mountains. It’s too huge.

  12. How much xp do you get for building new tunnels? Wondering if they could be used for farming…

  13. I bought it and I’m happy with it. I reorganised my Stonecutter compound and allocated more land to it. This was a nice way to freshen things up and make the main building appear grander. I haven’t generated any extra tunnels and don’t think I will – there’s no obvious place for them in my town.

  14. I bought it. It’s OK. I have no use for the extra tunnel segments. They’re too big.

  15. I’m a sucker for things that let you build other things (like the submarine that makes tiles) so this will be a buy for me. I’m just getting a bunch of the items with better rebates first to max out my donuts. Already exited about design possibilities.

    • Same here! Didn’t really want it at first, but the ability to make more is a big draw for me. Although now I am seeing them in my Springfield, I am not quite sure where to put them. Occasions will arise, I am sure. 🙂

      • Wondering…has anybody tried putting the extra tunnels on sqiddy tiles? I have my pop venue on a seperate section of the boardwalk, was thinking of expanding it with a “covered” audience area. Thought the extra tunnels might work into the state fair area, also, connecting the buildings…hmmmm.

        • Just re-read Alissa’s post…clearly states it can go on the boardwalk…sorry, just one of those brain dead days…😳

        • Haven’t tried Squidport yet, but I need to tidy that up anyway. At some point I started to add random stuff, parts of it look a bit like my attic… 😉

  16. Where’s the SIB on the mystery boxes??

  17. I went to buy it.. but when I saw the actual foot print of this decoration I passed and cancelled the purchase. Way to big and looks totally out of place with other buildings and decorations.
Since it really doesn’t do anything but take up space I decided to pass and save my donuts.

  18. Bought for the bonus. Buyers remorse. Just s big thing I’ll never use and tunnels don’t function as tunnels.
Should have waited for the review.
It’s a funny item but big and clunky.

    • Same here… I thought there would be more pieces and didn’t realise how huge they were. They do function as a road tunnel, as you can put them over roads… but I’d like to be able to have angled, cross and T pieces to go around corners, have junctions etc.

  19. If I double tap on the spawned tunnels it brings me back to the main tunnel and asks if I want to build a new segment.

    • I dont really call that a transporter. A similar thing happens if you tap the tank or paralyzer, we don’t consider them transporters

      • I disagree with Alissa.

Tapping on things like the tank or the Project Board does a slow scroll to another area (and sometimes with animation, as with the tank action).

Things like the tunnel do an immediate snap to instead of a scroll to. Placed in the right spots in your town they can serve as a poor man’s one-way transporter. A decent little tool in the tool box.

        • 🤷‍♀️ whatever works for you

But I wouldn’t call it a poor man’s transporter… not when it costs donuts.

          • Debbie Dovenbrink

Hi Alissa, it’s not cheap, that’s right, but I agree with sb on that because teleporters are not often to find in the store, other items, that bring you from A to B through a (double) tap can work as an alternative / additional “transporter”. I am also keen on teleporters and items that can work in a similar way, like Moe’s Brewing Company, the project board and then there are also two bowling shops, I think. Do you think an article about items with “special features” like those that enable you to grow corn (there was a country event last year that I missed) and those that take you from A to B would be possible? These “special features” are a big plus to some and it’s easy to miss an item so an article about these “special” items could help people get the stuff they want once it pops up again as a returning item, as a deal, in the vault… 🙂
That would be very helpful and a “must visit” section of your wonderful site. Could you please make it happen? 🙂

        • Definitely handy. I put a spawn in Springfield Heights to take me pronto to the tunnel, at the opposite end of Springfield. It is too bad that they’re only one-way tho.

          • You place the tunnel segments in differant areas. Then put the entrance in a main central location. If your city is very large, being able to jaunt from one corner to another can be a time saver.

  20. Thank you for the explanation of this tunnel Alissa. Good to know it does not move you from one place to another in the game. If it did, like the teleporters, I would have purchased. Now I will divert spending my sprinkles on the Stonecutter Table instead.

  21. I’m trying to talk myself out of it..
