Should I Spend Donuts on the Calabresi Bundle?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Let the heisting begin! The latest event in Springfield, The Springfield Job, is all about pulling off elaborate Heists…well not too elaborate Homer is involved…in a bet between two Nuclear Power Plant owners.

As we all know, that limited-time label can tempt us to grab everything in sight because it’ll be gone soon.  But don’t sweat it!  That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth those donuts and what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add the Calabresi Bundle to your Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding this Italian duo to your town…

Characters: Dante Calabresi Jr. and Dante Calabresi Sr.
Donut Cost:
 300 Donuts (yes that’s 300 donuts for 2 characters…no buildings)

Leaves stores April 5th

Pros
-2 Full premium character
-Comes with a questline
-Helps with the event heists (each earn premium rate on heists)
-Joint 4hr task (accessible from Dante Jrs tasks) is another flying item for Springfield (they get in a plane and fly over Springfield guns a blazing….)

Cons
-Not Voiced
-INSANELY overpriced.
-Joint 4hr task (accessible from Dante Jrs tasks) is another flying item for Springfield (they get in a plane and fly over Springfield guns a blazing….)

Final Thought
Premium:
Unless you really love these characters, don’t spend the donuts. This is an insane price for a bundle of just 2 characters….

Freemium:
Don’t buy this bundle.  If you buy this bundle I’m having you committed…

Of course, in the end, it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would or wouldn’t do…and as a premium player, I’m mildly insane because I picked this bundle up. (it’s an Italian thing…)  But whatever you decide, just make sure you make your final decision before it leaves our games for good (or for now).  Plus this is one of those bundles that’ll help with the event, so if you’re planning on getting it to it sooner rather than later….

Here’s a look at his tasks…

I farm so I purchased. I have a lot of donuts so I can buy it.

  2. Calabresi Bundle – not worth the Sprinkles (just get your Building at Level 20 asap and you’ll earn more Event Currency) 👍

  3. Big NOPE! 😛 insane price.. could at least have come with a building with a hefty bonus, then it would be an okay buy..

  4. Huge “nope” from me as soon as I saw the price. I’m more tempted by the Colosseum, though that also seems a bit pricey so I’m waiting for the rundown on it.

  5. Have me committed, I bought them and don’t regret it, plus mental hospitals are fun, sure you have to hand over your shoelaces and there’s someone who stands outside the open bathroom door when you use it, but you meet some interesting people, free food, and you get to spend some time in a padded room where you can bounce off the walls just by slapping the nurses butt.

  6. I’m so used to getting the premium characters at this point that even with the insane price I figured I would have caved eventually.. but I just can’t do it with this bundle. I’ll wait for them to show up in a sale or box.

  7. JANICE Wocelka OCHS

Mild insanity here, I bought the bundle. But, I’ve been living in insanity for last 6 months. Hospital, twice; 4 heat attacks, stints, Defib/Pacemaker….and now no salt….not me but hubby. Ugh. I’m gonna start flying over Springfield with this duo, need normal. Lol

  8. The only combo I would spend 300 donuts for is Lionel Hutz/Troy McClure

  9. 300 donuts! I wonder what drugs EA on to come up with the pricing…

  10. Got the gondola and it can only go in the water not the % area ??

  11. Brilliant work Alissa on getting all this content up and out. I have my eyes on Gino and Francesca for their buildings, I’m not in the market for extra characters, and I’m ridiculously light on donuts after last-minute impulse purchases of Ramrod and the Hooch House so won’t be getting these two. 300 does seem excessive and hopefully isn’t the start of a new pricing trend.

  12. I took a different view, whilst very expensive, they are footprint free. I snapped them up straight away. 😊🇬🇧

    • Footprint free are my favorite characters.

    • same reason I’ll most likely pick this up. Even though it is over priced. On a plus side they earn crafting currency. I’m not really worried about getting everything but there are a few nice craftables in this event.

  13. >>If you buy this bundle I’m having you committed…

    OK, that was pretty funny.

  14. Sorry if this is posted elsewhere is there a list of every character premium and normal who can do the heist job? I usually grab a new premium character during these events to help out so wanna know my options.

    Thanks!

  15. Ill get them in the future for rebate, but seriously what the hell?! Just one individual animated task for each, most uses old overcrowded boring Brown house…

What the hell EA was thinking with this price

  16. friends with salad

Lol the flying 4 hour task is a con.
    As it should be.

  17. I have to have ALL the characters so yes I got them … used some of the donuts I picked up with the £9.99 character deal 🖒

    • Do you feel it’s worth it though?

      • I’m happy to spend money on a game I have enjoyed playing for 5 years even if I no longer need to buy donuts. ☺

        • Fair enough, but was the characters worth it? You obviously feel the game is worth it, but what about the characters? Not being critical, it’s just since you own them and can use them you have insight on others who don’t.

          • Carmen (gameid5000)

Since I haven’t kept up with the newer Simpsons episodes, I don’t know who they are. However, they are characters for our game and I’m a bit like Brooders – trying to get them all.

Are they worth it? No, they are overpriced for characters only, based on the previous standards of the game.

Does it matter to me? No, I have an objective within the game. They cost me 9% of my on hand (KEM farmed) donuts. I’ll earn their cost back in four days of regular play. And I always keep in mind that I saved hundreds of donuts overall by acquiring many of my premium characters at discounted prices from the variety of mystery boxes offered throughout 2017 and the beginning of 2018.

  18. 300 donuts and almost all their tasks are at the Brown House??? Nope! No thanks. EA is getting kind of lazy, two mob guys with no jobs at the prison or Fat Tony’s club but at the boring Brown House (unless their tasks are going to graduate to a prize building we have not received yet, like the aging rockers did from the Brown House to the Recording Studio)

  19. Eh. I see this being the trend with donut farming becoming the norm. Which is why, even though I can farm a few hundred a day, I still bought the Sven Golly character for 10 real world dollars, jus to support the game.

    • Ahh it’s so refreshing when someone shares my POV about donut farming…be prepared now. The heavy donut farmers will start yelling at you…

      • I wanna know how in the heck you farm “hundreds” a day. I can farm around 15 every four hours at 480% bonus but I still have to buy donuts.

        • Most Likely he bought in to the KEM Farming concept right as it came out. If you did you are WAY ahead of the game. Your town was ugly but you generated massive amounts of currency. I’m at 616% + hidden building bonuses and about 240 characters, and can generate about 24 donuts every 4 hours while maintaining a couple million in cash. I’m almost to the point where my cash is also increasing with my donut count in the area I farm. I suspect about 700% should do it. In 5 years I’ve spent about 15 dollars on the game + my play time if you count that.

        • I no longer KEM farm. If I need doughnuts, I do rat trap trucks. I went nuts with the brownstones on the minievent so I only had around 10 doughnuts. I farmed the 550 needed for the 3 new items in less than 1/2 hour

        • Apologies to the admins if this shows twice…was having trouble posting.

I can answer a couple of those questions.

I really only started KEM farming late last summer/early fall and have been playing since Thanksgiving 2013. Freemium player mostly but spent 99 cents and 9.99 here and there over the years. Had maybe a 250% multiplier until then. Took full advantage of the tennis court glitch and crafted the heck out of the wailing walls that one Halloween. Plus the SH water house things. Bought all 5 of those.

Before that I’d do the Rat Trap thing. Save up 100M and then turn on the XP multiplier for a day and get 500 or 700 donuts. Did that every 90 days or so for a while. I honestly didn’t “get” the KEM farming thing but then one day took the time to read Safi’s post, plus all the comments which were just as helpful.

Two big things: When you get up to an extra 100 donuts, just buy the mystery boxes. You’ll average 10% bonus for every 100 spent which is a great deal.

The other trick for earning more in-game cash so you never deplete when you’re KEM farming: buy a premium building that requires one person to complete a job plus the “send 3 Springfielders to do whatever job.” So I have that weird walking Kwik e Mart where Apu has to finish a 4 hour job plus the send 3 Springfielders thing to complete its quest. So what I do is: never put Apu on his job but then send everybody on a 4 hour task via the Unemployment Office. It automatically sends everyone (well about 80% of my characters) to that one job as it sees it as being incomplete and it earns at premium for every character. That is a huge deal. It’s also easy for tapping because there are like 200 characters at that one building. One tap- tons of cash.

So here is how I get the few hundred a day. Potentially. I really just KEM farm about once a day at this point. But I could do more if I needed it.

I have a 3005% bonus and craft 120 KEMs. Each KEM pays out 310,000 XP points with the XP multiplier always on. So only about 3 KEMs are needed to get the level up. Around 40 levels up at 3 donuts each. (Always pay to get the 3 donuts). And if I do that 3-4 times a day…360-480/day

Also when stuff like that Snowball II snowman came up at Xmas I bought about 100 of them at 19 donuts each for another 200%. When I got an exta 20 donuts I’d just buy them. Over and over for that event. Plus a few weeks ago, I had the Jet Bikes in the Vault so I bought 200 of them at at 20 donuts. I had saved up 4000 to that point and spent them all. The 400% extra was a huge deal.

It sounds insane I know, but it’s exponential. It just happened. Now that we’re in a long event and it’s kind of required to login 4 times a day to get all the items, I’d suggest farming while you’re at it. Just whenever you log in build 10 or 20 or 50 KEMs at a time. Whatever you can do. And spend any extra beyond what characters/buildings you want on Mystery Boxes. That’s pretty much all I did over the course of 3 or 4 of the 6 week grinding events.

Granted I have a big chunk of land in one corner that I call “3000 Percent Land” and it’s ugly but eh, whatever. A lot of stuff you can hide too. Those Snowballs are all over town behind buildings.

        • At 1000% you will see a BIG difference.

      • You have a valid point, because farming is simply exploiting a loophole in the game, which is similar to cheating, though not actually outright cheating, because the developers obviously know about it, and if they considered it cheating they’d close the loophole

      • Even on my tight income I’m debating that donut/character bundle, and I’m pretty sure it was 13.99 up here in Canada. I think it’s around long enough that I can wait a week and a half or so until all the bills get paid to be sure. I hope so, anyway.

    • Considering buying it myself does the character have a task at the museum for event currency?

    • I’m a farmer too, but I also bought the Sven Golly package as my “support purchase” for Spring. Have decided to make one purchase each season to help support the game. I used the 100 bonus donuts to help buy the ridiculously priced Calabresi guys (bringing the price down to 200 donuts seemed a little less outrageous) 😊

    • How to you farm several hundred donuts a day. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

      • We have done several posts on this…but “several hundred” requires a TON of commitment and spending loads and loads of donuts on mystery boxes to reach huge bonus % multipliers. I earn around 25-35 a day…but, I haven’t invested the time to increase my % beyond 370ish.

  20. Better go ahead and commit me, than! 🙂

    • Are you a freemium player? lol I don’t consider Donut Farmers Freemium players…

Freemium players are those who play the old school freemium way. Getting maybe 10-20 donuts per week. Takes forever to save up for something, and it’s really hard to decide what to spend donuts on.

Premium players are those (like me) who spend actual cold hard cash in this game.

And donut farmers are broken up into 2 categories…there’s “i’ve got so many donuts I didn’t pay for it doesn’t matter what I spend them on” players. And then the casual donut farmer who falls somewhere between freemium and premium, where they have to think about what they buy but it doesn’t hurt as much as freemium players when they drop 300 donuts for 2 characters…

      • lol… I’m a “Farmium” player — which probably *still* qualifies me to be committed!

I’ve never *really* been a “casual” farmer, per se… but even with a huge farm, it was still a bit of a grind to be able to afford much, until my bonus percent hit a certain point. So at this point, I’m starting to realize that maybe I really can afford almost anything that donuts will buy… but I still don’t buy *absolutely* everything. I guess I just don’t see much value in certain things. (I’ve never once even considered those “license” gimmicks, for instance.)

  21. its all good when you miss a week of act 1 =) (please help)

  22. I fully agree with you Alissa, this is outrageously priced. Stupidly priced. GREED!!!

EA you have LOST a huge premium player (thousands of dollars since 2012/13) due to your greed in the past 2 or 3 updates. I will no longer dump hundreds of dollars a year into this game. I’m even thinking about laying the game down for good. The past more than few quests have been subpar from previous years.

    • Blame Donut Farming. (yes, yes I KNOW it’s a loophole EA put in…I get it. If they didn’t want you to farm they could take it away. But at this point, if they took it away 99% of those who farm would quit. And it’s also important for EA to have numbers. Numbers of people playing, numbers of hours logged into TSTO. So dollars matter, but number of people playing matters too) Donut farming has turned the casual premium player (someone who may spend $10 a month or even $.99 on a scratchr every so often) into a pure farmer. So EA figures, all these people have free donuts, let’s jack up the price on certain items…

      • EA wouldn’t lose 99% of farmers if they made it SLIGHTLY more difficult to amass large sums of bonuts each day. I wouldn’t mind that much if the game were to increase the bonut threshold by 1 million per box, with the count resetting at the same time daily challenges are created.

My farming generates about 100 donuts per day. Under the scheme outlined, I’d still generate 45 donuts per day – plenty but not as excessive. Farming would still pay, but be less lucrative. That would help hold down the farm-ium inflation.

        • You must have missed the outrage when they increased the XP requirement when they initially ended levels.

          • I was already a farmer when they increased bonut from 1 million to 10 million. That was ridiculous. I also remember the old school when the bonut levels were escalating, with each bonus round costing more XP.

That formula could work where the 10th bonut round in a single 24-hour period would cost 10 million XP. Only heavy-duty bonut farmers would be affected, and if you’re generating hundreds of bonuts every day…. you’re not quitting.

          • I think part of the outrage was over the decrease in % from the SH water house bundle (I can’t remember what it is called) as well as increasing it to 10 million per level. Doing a gradual exp increase and resetting it daily is not a bad idea though, since this would curb some of the more exuberant donut farmers. I have a small, 25 KEM farm and get about 50-60 donuts a day. I really like the idea of seasonal purchases though and will probably start to support the game more.

      • Every time EA does something like this, I don’t get mad. I just pull out the 3K bonus and farm a few thousand donuts for a day or two.

I know that I have to enjoy it now because EA will shift the form donut currency to a new one soon. We can see evidence of this in the form of new characters for real cash and the inflation of the donut, and the change from game cash to land tokens.

Just like in the real world, once you make more, things cost more.

      • Personally, I’d like EA to offer a subscription model where you pay some monthly/annual fee and you automatically get all new characters and at least one of any other premium item that gets released during the time of your subscription.

      • Yeah I know and it sucks for those that don’t do bonut farming and it hurts us the most. -_-

  23. just say no

  24. These are a great couple of characters and I cannot wait for them to be offered in the future at a reasonable price. This feels to me like a Gil Deal that got lost in translation.

  25. I’ll definitely be picking this up… in about six months, when it’s in a mystery box for 60 donuts!

  26. Committed? My wife beat you to it.

  27. Love it. It’s amazing!

  28. Ok…no way… I can’t even believe they are priced this high. With monorail donut earning task broken for me…forgetta bout it

  29. Madly expensive! I just bought the Cat burglar for a 100 sprinklies with the museum. Can’t complain there, plus it helps the event. Although still behind target, playing every 4 hours, including nights!

  30. Since I know Michael, it’s worth it. Not everyday you get someone you know in your game, pretty cool.
