Should I Spend Donuts on the Pope and St. Paul’s Basilica?

Update: In game update just came through.  The Pope can now do heists.  I’ve updated below accordingly.

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Let the heisting begin! The latest event in Springfield, The Springfield Job, is all about pulling off elaborate Heists…well not too elaborate Homer is involved…in a bet between two Nuclear Power Plant owners.

As we all know, that limited-time label can tempt us to grab everything in sight because it’ll be gone soon.  But don’t sweat it!  That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth those donuts and what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add the Pope and St. Paul’s Basilica to your Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding this holy duo to your town…

Character(s): Pope
Building/Decoration:
St. Paul’s Basilica
Donut Cost:
150 Donuts
Size:
11×11
Earns:
$300, 30xp/12hrs
Conform-O-Meter:
Vanity +400
Can Be Placed:
grass|pavement|boardwalk|pier|dirt

Leaves stores April 5th

Pros
-Comes with a questline (which can wait until the event is over to complete)
-A couple of amusing tasks, although if you’re easily offended they might not be amusing to you. (I’m Catholic, I’m not offended)
-Will use St. Paul’s for tasks and it’s animated when in use (lights up birds fly)-Can do heists

Cons
-Not voiced
-Large footprint (11×11)
-Pricey for the combo

Not a Pro or Con…yet

I’m listing this as an in-between at the moment because we’ll have to wait and see what happens.  In the store it says the Pope helps with Heists.  However, at least for Act 1, he does not.  You won’t be able to use him for Heists (which kinda makes sense…he is the Pope).  I’m not sure if he’ll be used in Act 2 and 3 or not yet.  If he is used it’ll be a pro, if not a con.  So don’t get him for Heisting….

Final Thought
Premium:
It’s a if you like it get it item.  At the moment no real benefit for the event.  Today’s update has made it so he can heist. But still a get it because you like it item.

Freemium:
Meh, freemium players I’d pass.  You’re better off with a character that will help for all Acts (Wheels, Sven etc) than one that may or may not help for the next.  Plus, I think other characters have better visual tasks…

Of course, in the end, it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would or wouldn’t do…and as a premium player, I picked this one up.  But whatever you decide, just make sure you make your final decision before it leaves our games for good (or for now).

Here’s a look at his tasks…

Pope’s Permanent Tasks:

Task Length Earns Location
Give Daily Sermon 1hr $105, 26xp St. Paul’s Basilica
Ride the Pope Mobile 4hrs $260, 70xp Outside/Visual
Be Young and Cool 8hrs $840, 210xp Outside/Visual
Take a Pope Nap 12hrs $600, 150xp St. Paul’s Basilica
Communicate with the B.S. League 24hrs $1000, 225xp St. Paul’s Basilica

What are your thoughts on the Pope and St. Paul’s?  Will you be spending the donuts to bring them to your Springfield? Did you already?  Why or why not?  Where have you placed the Basilica in your Springfield?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you

  1. I love the Pope. Ooohh Popemobile animation (I saw John Paul II in one of those!)

  2. I got it, the building is really too big for land, but it fits fine on a pier. Pair it with the Water Play Fountain, and the Vatican is now a mansion on the shore….

  3. Pope and St. Paul’s Basilica
I’d like to get it but leaving the Store on April 5th makes me feel the Pope and St. Paul’s Basilica Combo will be back at Discount (why not leave this in the Store for the whole Event, EA?) 🦄

  4. Is he worth 150 donuts? I love the building and think he would be an awesome addition. But, since I don’t have Shary Bobbins, I’m kind of torn between the two but can only afford one. She’s cheaper but doesn’t come with a building. Any suggestions?

    • I have Sherry Bobbins and I don’t really see what the hype is about with her. Unless her episode is one of your favorites, I don’t really get the appeal, she’s just another character

      • You weren’t around when she became available the first time. It was TORTURE to earn her…and was the introduction the the “wHELLe” as we called it. The Wheel was worse that crafting, in that you had to gather tons of currency points, in order to “spin the wheel” and see what prize you won. It was like a random Prize Box, but with very low chances of getting anything worth while. Sherry was the “big prize.”

In punishment, I have kept her floating above the ground, for years. Literally.

  5. I knew it! I called it…you could tell by that fake smile. He’s an Antipope!!!

    * cue dramatic chord *

The real Pope wouldn’t hoard precious artifacts… 😉

  6. Is it too much to ask that he get a quest line to become a B.S. League member?

  7. My pop can do heists so it’s worth it if yours can

  8. It does help with highest but I had to get to level three on the task first before it popped up

  9. A trend I’ve noted lately that I find disturbing:

Character prices have gone up. At the same time, the amount of new content associated with the character has gone down. It seems like now the entire quest line for a new character is a few tasks, short dialog snippets, and done.

    • Since the County Fair mini event in September, most of the new premium character combos have been 150 donuts or around the price range and the 3 most recent Gil Deals have all cost 199 Donuts. Character combos that cost 150 donuts a few years ago was really rare and now it is very common, I think it might be a bit higher since donuts are more easier to obtain now than they were before (from the Rail Yard, farming, Where’s Maggie and completing the main event’s questline is just some ways of getting donuts). Usually the questlines for characters are at least 5 parts long but in this event they are either 3 or 4 parts.

      • I remeber the times where there was no Maggie and no Rail Yard; we used to get the donnuts from Mistery boxes every week, but it was one donnut price every like 20 boxes, rest was on bonuts and tapping every single day on neighbors, those were hard times…

  10. After he finishes all his quests he can then help with hiests at least that’s what happened with me

    • Same thing with me. Finished questline then got to do heists.

      • He’s appearing on the heist list because of today’s update. Yesterday And this morning, even if the questline was finished he wouldn’t be able to do heists

    • yeah when I finished his quests soon after getting him he could not help with the Heists which was a bummer for me. Still would have got him obviously because it’s the friggin pope.

  11. Instant buy…didn’t think twice about it.

  12. Unrelated but does anyone know if the crafting currency will roll over to the next stage?

  13. Redundant question but is the pope tied to the building? I wish they would let people store buildings and still leave characters out. I miss out on so many characters because they are tied to something awful IMO. I really don’t need another huge cathedral

  14. I had to get the Pope. Plus getting Sven for extra inventive, I also grabbed Jesus back during Christmas so it’s fun to have them together.

  15. I just picked up the Pope but I can’t find him on the list for heists. Is this “patch” something I have to download myself or something automatic?

  16. Afraid to get anything new. My game is limping along. EA has had me uninstall, reinstall, cloned my game and wait.
Still the left corner charcarter locater is broke and even worse my railyard wont let me continually make donuts!
I believe its corrupted on their servers not my devise as I use 2 different devises -kindle fire and phone to play.
Spent forever growing my redwood, burns money pile, and IRS and now they are stuck at level 1 🙁
Perhaps EA got hacked and this is a worm virus meant for EA to chase their tail while the players info is mined?

    • Me too. Not only the character tap in the left corner, but my tap radius has shrunk so I have to tap every building. Homer was sent on some odd 24hour pie man task. And these weird notifications popped up saying that all these random old events had finished. But they were at least a year old events. What’s up?

      • It’s a known glitch, search this site for the “roll back” glitch and you’ll see it’s effecting a lot of people.

  17. In Game patch means the pope can do heists now 🖒

    • I believe so. I couldn’t use him for heist until I updated. He’s planning heist now. And his “ride in pope mobile” is one of my favorite visual tasks.

  18. I just bought him this morning and WAS able to send him to plan a heist earning at the premium rate. An update did come through this AM for me so maybe something changed there.

  19. Why have all the new characters all their non-visual tasks in the same place lately?
    Lazy work EA.

  20. An almost instant buy for my freemium game, even tho I’ve passed on the others so far. Love the building. And it’s the Pope!

  21. Instant buy.
Been thinking of creating a church district and this will go perfectly

  22. I’m planning on buying it in a few days. There are an item or two I want to buy first.

  23. Weird question, but does anyone know if when the Pope rides the pope-mobile it drives on the sidewalk or the middle of the road like the street sweeper?

  24. This is what happens when you don’t wait for the “Should I Buy”. I saw the text “Helps with Heists”, and didn’t hesitate for a moment to snatch him up. I figured he’d show up in the Heists list. Sure, you’d argue that the Pope can’t do heists, but maybe he’s one of those Dark Ages Popes. 🙂

When he wasn’t on the list for heists, I then figured that maybe he can do heists when his quest line is finished. Long story short…I should’ve waited for the “Should I Buy” for my answers, but even then, I’d still buy the Pope.

    • Same for me. Here’s hoping he helps in the next act. Otherwise, I guess the only benefit for me will be seeing him drive around in his pope-mobile 😄

  25. EA disappointingly named the building incorrectly… it is St. Peter’s Basilica not St. Paul’s.

    • There are four major basilicas in Rome one of which is St Paul’s. Wikipedia has an article on it.

      • Yes I know there are. But if you look at any pictures, this is clearly a rendition of St. Peter’s Basilica not St. Paul’s. It is almost an exact match.

  26. I’m probably going to snag him — and I’m kind’a looking forward to reading the Wookster’s take on him in a WDTCF, because if my memory serves, I think the Pope dates back to a pretty early season/episode. (I grew up with the Simpsons, so old school episodes are one of my happy places.)

  27. Instant buy

    • May I ask why? I don’t mean to sound like a jerk, I just like to know why so I can decide. I am really on the fence on this one.

  28. Bart riding on Stampy next to the pope in his pope mobile. 😁

  29. It’s the pope so of course I’m getting it

  30. Awesomeness!!! I got the pope just for the driving about town task in his pope-mobile 🤣🤣🤣
