Gil’s Latest Gimmick: Details and Should You Buy Scotland Yard with Jack the Ripper

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Looks like Gil’s back in Springfield.  He returned to Springfield early this morning (he likes to sneak into town under the cloak of darkness…), naturally with another offer for us.  What’s the latest gimmick he’s peddling? Well with a trip around the world, it only makes sense that he’s pushing a British Serial Killer.

So let’s break down the details of this latest offer and determine if you should spend your donuts on this Murderous Package….

So when you first get into Springfield you’ll see Gil waving his arms around…just begging you to tap on him…

If you tap on him you’ll see…

Gil: I had a great idea: I borrowed Professor Frink’s time machine. Figured I’d go back in time, give myself some advice, and stock tips, really turn my life around.  But I fell off the bike around 2008… had to live through the great recession all over again.  Bad times. Then a fella called Jack the Ripper found the bike in the past, and used it to come back to the present. And now I can’t wait to get rid of him.  Before he gets rid of me!

At which point you’ll see his latest gimmick…

If you refuse…

Gil: Well, that’s it for Ol’ Gil.  Not just financially this time, but mortally. On the plus side, at least I won’t live long long enough to go bankrupt.

If you accept…

Gil:  Whew, Ol’ Gil dodged a bullet that time.  Well, more like a butcher knife, actually.

Now real quick because…if you refuse the offer will go back in the store.  It will be there…

This Deal Ends April 15th

If you accept you’ll be tasked with building Scotland Yard (instant build), once built you’ll unlock Jack the Ripper (he’s part of the Villans collection)…

And now for the part, you’ve all been waiting for…the Should I Buy…

Building/Decoration: Scotland Yard
Character:
 Jack the Ripper
Donut Cost: 199 Donuts
Earns: Premium characters, so earns at a premium rate.  Scotland Yard earns $200, 22xp/ 8hrs
Size:
6×10
Conform-O-Meter:
Obedience +20

This Deal Ends April 15th

Pros
-Helps with heists for the Springfield Jobs Event
-Comes with a questline
-Scotland Yard is a nice looking building, with a decent footprint (compared to some of the other buildings with this event)

Cons
-Insanely priced for a character/building combo that’s not a regular character on the show.
-Animations are kind of lackluster (and look pretty similar)
-Not voiced
-Let’s face it…Jack the Ripper (the real one) was a serial killer.  Do you really want that in your town?

Final Thought
Premium:
This isn’t a spectacular premium buy.  This is one of those “if you like it, get it” combos.  It’s pricey and pretty meh in animations.  Scotland Yard itself is the best part of this deal and is 199 donuts worth it to you for a meh character and a building?

Freemium:
Pass on this one.  Overpriced and the character is lackluster.  You’re better off spending fewer donuts for Westminster Abbey and getting 2 characters.  Jack the Ripper is a pass.

Of course, in the end, it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would or wouldn’t do…and as a premium player, I’m on the fence.  I like the look of Scotland Yard, but I don’t know if I can justify the 199 donuts on a so-so character.   But whatever you decide, just make sure you make your final decision before it leaves our games for good (or for now).

  1. My live in fear is at a glitch and won’t stop. I can’t use the characters stuck in a loop

  2. Scotland Yard with Jack the Ripper …. a true NO DEAL at 199 Sprinkles and no more Premiums until EA offers a Patch to fix this Rollback Glitch! I ♥️ Scotland Yard but I HATE what EA is allowing to happen more!

  3. You all are right about Family Guy. Ironically, they’re doing a Sherlock Holmes event right now lol. Sometimes I think I like that game even more than TSTO even though I never watched the show when it aired. My brother’s a Family Guy fan, I was always more into The Simpsons. My comment was more about EA’s lawyers than The Simpsons show. I’ve been playing their games for a long time on PC, console and now mobile and EA doesn’t do “edgy.” They do whatever will make the most money.

I think Alissa’s right about living Presidents. Fox likely paid to license Obama and Trump’s likenesses or claimed some sort of fair use. Given that The Simpsons “predicted” Trump’s presidency, I was absolutely stunned he wasn’t even offered as a premium character.

  4. I’m on the fence on this one, with just a few hours to decide. The building is gorgeous and would give my London area some more texture (one of the things I love about London is that it doesn’t *match*, it just works). It’s a lot of donuts though and I was hoping EA might have tweaked the Gil deals in light of the positive response to the Barflies (regular characters, integrates well in game etc). They seem to have missed the opportunity here.
I’m not as worried as I should be about the character. The murders attributed to Jack were horrific but this is not that person – and in my game Louie commits five hits a week so I have no moral authority whatsoever!

  5. I really didn’t want a serial killer wandering around, so- sorry, Gil. Am still enjoying your previous deal on Moe’s Express, though.

  6. When I saw it I had to have them. It’s not really Jack, cause we can see him. He’s like Sven Golly just fun to have around because they are silly. (I don’t think I’d like the fictional character Svengali either, but that is how I see this Jack in my Springfield) 😋

  7. Pass on this ofc, but id want more bad and evil people in my town 🤔 Like the weird with van and gimp, who Homer thought to sell Plopper to

  8. I’m generally not bothered by disturbing images or concepts, but even I think this character is in bad taste. What’s next, Charles Manson or Jeffrey Dahmer? Is it the fact that his gruesome murders took place over 100 years ago or that he is well dressed that make him acceptable? Not in MY Springfield.

  9. I got him but kinda regret it. After all 199 donuts is a lot for a non-regular character. Anyway the building is kinda nice. I remember paying even more for Barney and his bowling alley (once i started semi- premium), but after all, it was BARNEY!!

  10. just an observation, should the pay outs on the chart be $260 since it is a premium character? — I did get ‘the ripper” it goes along well with the NPC Homer in a cape.. 🙂

I definitely bought Scotland Yard and Jack The Ripper! I do agree that the donut price of 199 is definitely steep but not a problem when you have over a million donuts in your account. No matter how much I spend on these deals and that includes crafting items which depending on how much you want one a particular decoration, may want to get more faster and in greater quantities than the currency event can generate, I don’t completely run out. I definitely wanted the historical landmark that is Scotland Yard and as for the character Jack The Ripper, I’m a completist and want everything that the game has to offer. Now should their ever be a craftable item that I don’t want , then I won’t craft it. That is rather disappointing Alissa with regards to living Presidential characters,I was hoping that we would get President Bush Sr. ,he was so hilarious with Homer. Well we should be seeing Ford and Reagan and Thomas Jefferson as the most likely for this upcoming July 4th this year. But based on what you are saying,we aren’t likely to be seeing Bill Clinton and Bob Dole in our games either. That is disappointing. As for the Beatles, if they ever can get the rights to them it would be nice and fun. I’m with the 33.88% that bought Scotland Yard and Jack The Ripper. As for his animations ,it could have been better with Jack The Ripper holding a dagger while he stalks his prey.

This offer ‘terminates’ April 15 – the day the US Government finalizes ‘ripping’ our hard earned money from our pocket books.

    • Actually I think it’s the 17th this year…(15th is a Sunday) but yes. My least favorite day.

      • How dare you hate April 15. It’s my birthday 🙂

        • If you live in New Jersey April 15th is a very depressing day….as the state just wants to rip all the money out of your pockets and rob you blind for nonsense spending. But happy almost birthday 🙂

        • It could be worse. My wife’s birthday is September 11th. We had just begun dating after the our term in college began in 2001 when she commented about how “nothing interesting ever happened” on her birthday.

I agree with Alissa, though. April 15th is a date of fear and infamy that has forever tarnished the birthdays of taxpayers.

However, I would argue that our California state taxes are even more complicated (and somewhat more painful) than New Jersey taxes. It makes the appeal of those no-state-income-taxes states (e.g., Texas, Tennessee, Florida, Wyoming, Alaska, South Dakota, etc.) all the more appealing.

          🙁

          • Oh yes, California sucks too. I keep telling my husband we need to move to Florida…maybe one day.

          • I moved from California (San Diego) to New Jersey and I can confirm, both states have seriously bad taxes. But NJ (at least in the south) has amazing schools!

            • Well, the teachers sure are paid well compared to other states. My sister was a teacher in NJ (she’s now a SAHM) and was making more than I do, but my Brother In Law is a teacher in PA and is way underpaid. (even with masters)

But like everything, depends on the district. Some are really good, some are really bad. Our current town’s school system is good, which is why we moved here, but our old town…yikes! Awful school system (and even worse property taxes)…we would have been crazy to send the Tiny Addict to school there.

  13. Shame he isn’t voiced! We could have finally solved the mystery of who the ripper really was! 🤣

    Had to get him. 🖒

  14. I would have bought Scotland Yard with, say, a Sherlock Holmes. Way more interesting to have him investigating the heist planning or somesuch than to have a never-identified serial killer running around. Pass.

    • Sherlock Holmes didn’t have any good thoughts about Scotland Yard, to put it mildly.
The house on Baker Street 221b would be far better combo. Adding Doctor Watson would be the icing on the cake.

  15. I can afford it. I like the Scotland Yard building, but I don’t want to justify EA raising prices on character/building combos. I mean Jebus was worth the 199 donuts. If there are enough purchasers at this price, it may become the norm. I’m passing on this one. I did buy Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey though.
