Gil’s Latest Gimmick: Details and Should You Buy Scotland Yard with Jack the Ripper

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Looks like Gil’s back in Springfield.  He returned to Springfield early this morning (he likes to sneak into town under the cloak of darkness…), naturally with another offer for us.  What’s the latest gimmick he’s peddling? Well with a trip around the world, it only makes sense that he’s pushing a British Serial Killer.

So let’s break down the details of this latest offer and determine if you should spend your donuts on this Murderous Package….

So when you first get into Springfield you’ll see Gil waving his arms around…just begging you to tap on him…

If you tap on him you’ll see…

Gil: I had a great idea: I borrowed Professor Frink’s time machine. Figured I’d go back in time, give myself some advice, and stock tips, really turn my life around.  But I fell off the bike around 2008… had to live through the great recession all over again.  Bad times. Then a fella called Jack the Ripper found the bike in the past, and used it to come back to the present. And now I can’t wait to get rid of him.  Before he gets rid of me!

At which point you’ll see his latest gimmick…

If you refuse…

Gil: Well, that’s it for Ol’ Gil.  Not just financially this time, but mortally. On the plus side, at least I won’t live long long enough to go bankrupt.

If you accept…

Gil:  Whew, Ol’ Gil dodged a bullet that time.  Well, more like a butcher knife, actually.

Now real quick because…if you refuse the offer will go back in the store.  It will be there…

This Deal Ends April 15th

If you accept you’ll be tasked with building Scotland Yard (instant build), once built you’ll unlock Jack the Ripper (he’s part of the Villans collection)…

And now for the part, you’ve all been waiting for…the Should I Buy…

Building/Decoration: Scotland Yard
Character:
 Jack the Ripper
Donut Cost: 199 Donuts
Earns: Premium characters, so earns at a premium rate.  Scotland Yard earns $200, 22xp/ 8hrs
Size:
6×10
Conform-O-Meter:
Obedience +20

This Deal Ends April 15th

Pros
-Helps with heists for the Springfield Jobs Event
-Comes with a questline
-Scotland Yard is a nice looking building, with a decent footprint (compared to some of the other buildings with this event)

Cons
-Insanely priced for a character/building combo that’s not a regular character on the show.
-Animations are kind of lackluster (and look pretty similar)
-Not voiced
-Let’s face it…Jack the Ripper (the real one) was a serial killer.  Do you really want that in your town?

Final Thought
Premium:
This isn’t a spectacular premium buy.  This is one of those “if you like it, get it” combos.  It’s pricey and pretty meh in animations.  Scotland Yard itself is the best part of this deal and is 199 donuts worth it to you for a meh character and a building?

Freemium:
Pass on this one.  Overpriced and the character is lackluster.  You’re better off spending fewer donuts for Westminster Abbey and getting 2 characters.  Jack the Ripper is a pass.

Of course, in the end, it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would or wouldn’t do…and as a premium player, I’m on the fence.  I like the look of Scotland Yard, but I don’t know if I can justify the 199 donuts on a so-so character.   But whatever you decide, just make sure you make your final decision before it leaves our games for good (or for now).

Here’s a look at his tasks…

Jack the Ripper’s Permanent Tasks:

  1. This ‘offer’ is disappointing for so many reasons, many of which have been captured in the other posts. There are so many more impressive (and dare I say appropriate) London themed combinations they could have offered, it’s a shame they went for this. Keeping in with the heists theme, I would have loved to see the Royal Courts of Justice- such impressive architecture. They could have coupled it with Lord Denning as a character. Alternatively, they could have opted for countless other perhaps more well known landmarks and character combinations. I shall pass on this.

    • Justin Henriks

Although I purchased this deal I completely agree, other possibilities included Trafalgar Square, Tower Bridge (could have crossed water!), Houses of Parliament/Big Ben (the non-futuristic version of Big Ben), etc. Also still waiting for London Eye (if that is what is on the picture on the load up screen?)

    • Lord Denning?! Completely unknown to 99.98% of the world, and despised by a number of Irish people. Would have been a very strange choice.

      • But his lordship is exceptionally well known in London (and indeed England generally) and this part of the event is London themed. 🙂 However, I take your general point but, as I said, this is a combination “I would have loved” to see, not necessarily one that everyone else would have. 🙂

  2. According to the survey, 34.38% of you have much more donuts than me

  3. As far as serial killers are concerned, at least for us Yanks, the FBI estimates there are at least 50 active serial killers at any one time in the U.S. So figure about one per state. That’s a little more scary than having an animated bit of pixels in a non existent town in a game.

  4. I chose not to, the first time in this theme that I passed up a character. Just not interesting enough for the cost.

  5. This is completely random and sort of off topic, but I think a great Gil deal would be offering The Beatles (Haha Beatles for Sale, get it?). I mean 3 of the 4 have been on the show, so why not? I can only hope.

  6. this deal from Gil was surprisingly disappointing

  7. Jack the Ripper – big negative
    Scotland Yard – positive
Cost – negative (I can easily afford it, but I don’t buy everything)
Visual jobs – negative (for any other character they are meh, though really what “fun” jobs would you want to see a killer do )
This all adds up to a no deal from me.

  8. TallSpiderCandy

I would buy it but think it’s too pricey, plus I’m anxious for what Act 3 will bring and don’t want to spend my precious donuts on a meh purchase. I did however buy Sven immediately; thanks EA for that awesome deal!!! Hope they do more like that!! I’m loving this event and don’t mind the length because it guarantees I will be able to earn everything before the end and not be too stressed 😀

  9. David Billington

Current donut balance is over 4000 with all my KEM farming so it was an obvious purchase for me… the building is ace

  10. I bought this immediately. Jack (or Jill; and yes there is a possibility that “Jack the Ripper” was actually a woman) is interesting despite the heinous nature of the murders.

The most likely reason we didn’t get Sherlock Holmes or Watson is that some of the Sherlock Holmes stories are still under copyright in the US. They’re all in the public domain in the EU. EA’s lawyers are probably killjoys just like the lawyer in Springfield and don’t want to deal with the possibility of litigation. That’s also probably the reason we didn’t get Trump during the political event.

    • You won’t get any living presidents in the game. Hence why Bush didn’t come with his house

    • There is a Trump skin for Peter Griffin in Family Guy, The Quest For Stuff. He even has a Twitter account.
      https://mobile.twitter.com/griffintrump

      • Obama is in FG too (character, not a skin)

        • That’s right, but I stopped playing the game after my town got corrupted twice and the “help” desk couldn’t/wouldn’t repair it.
EA does a far better job of helping you with any game trouble compared to TimeCo, Inc.

          • I just finally got back into Family Guy after something went wrong after August 2017 Guys in Black event. Everything was freezing and slowed down. Tried periodically with no success, but now everything is working fine. Either they fixed something or me going to iOS 11 fixed it.

If TSTO has such a problem for me, I would probably just do the same thing, just take a hiatus from the game and wait for things to get fixed. Dealing with tech support is too exhausting for me. I actually missed a few TSTO events in 2017 because of isp troubles and survived.

  11. I was very tempted by this deal even with the high price. I’ve always been interested in the mystery of Jack The Ripper. The fact that this ripper was never in the show is a dealbreaker for me.
I would have rather had a skin for Wiggum as the mutton chop murderer.

  12. I bought right away.

  13. Hate the character because how can you satire someone as evil as a serial killer? But do love the building. I wish I knew what Act 3 has before deciding.

  14. Milhouse in the brown house

My kem farms are finally paying off.
I’ll have Jack in two days. If it wasn’t for the pretty building, I’d pass.
I can keep him hunting his enemies through time if I get bored with his animations.

  15. yeah, that would’ve been awesome!!! I love the blue ‘tardis’ police phoneboxes in this event. Gonna get a lot of them to place all around springfield ♥

  16. John Rodriguez

I got the deal, I don’t really view it as a negative thing. I mean Jack the Ripper is a serial killer from over 100 years ago and it’s not like they haven’t added other characters that are involved with murder. Just look at all the mafia characters, realistically speaking they do a lot of murdering themselves.

  17. Don’t understand the aversion to Jack the Ripper… we have a character based on Vlad the Impaler and tons of other criminals where murdering was part of the ethos (mobsters for example). With all the great Halloween stuff, this feels right at home and perfectly London themed. Count me in, even with the higher end of character/building combo prices. It’s the only thing this event that has felt cool enough to spend donuts on for me.

    • John Rodriguez

That’s exactly what I said lol
I do not understand how people are drawn away from Jack because he’s a murderer when see all these other mobsters and criminals who straight up were involved in plenty or murders, some shown in the show like when they are dumping bodies. Like how does that sit well with you if this doesn’t lol

  18. Do gil deals usually come back for sale down the road? I would love to get it for the character just to have another character in my town (trying to gather as many as possible) but would rather not spend 199 on him

    • Some came back, some didn’t – no guarantees, but the way things are going lately, I assume it will come back in a mystery box somewhere down the road.

    • I got the big Simpson snow globe (once an expensive Gil deal) in a mystery box. I’ve seen other Gil deals in mystery boxes also.

  19. Yeah they could’ve given a better character to go with this building, like Sherlock Holmes, but I got it cuz how can you have London without Scotland Yard?

  20. Ooooooo goodie….who’s next? Jeffrey Dahmer? Pass. 😒

  21. Tempted by Scotland Yard, but I have to agree with a few of the posts I’ve read… a detective makes sense here, Jack does not. And why is a character based on a serial killer being given tasks that make him act as a hero, hunting ANOTHER serial killer (The Springfield Strangler)?

On a side note, can anyone tell me the last time Gil offered a deal that *WAS* worth taking? It seems to me that his deals are never actually a “deal.”

  22. In regards to KEM farming, is buying characters a good idea if I’m trying to raise the amount of donuts I receive? Because I would like to get both this bundle and the Westminster bundle, but I’m wondering if I should hold off and only buy items that increase my bonus percentage instead. At the moment I have 212 characters and a 480% bonus and I’m making about 9 donuts every KEM cycle.

    • My thoughts are that unless you’re talking something with bonus percentage added to it, characters, especially those that pay out at a premium, are always a good idea — more money then buildings per cycle and more money means you can buy more for KEM farming. That said, at this particular price for Gil’s deal, I’m passing. I did get the Westminster bundle, though. I’m averaging about 10 donuts per cycle and as long as can play at least 3 times a day, I’ve been able to get what I want, though sometimes I do have to be selective about when and wait for things to come back… and I suspect this one probably will at some point.

    • Depends on your goals right now…if you’re in “serious xp acquisition mode”, then nothing so far is a great deal. If not, then the chaucer bundle is a pretty good deal for 2 characters and a building. Still…no xp boost from either bundle, so if your serious about increasing your donut intake via farming, xp is the way to go. Save your donuts for a mystery box or “bonus % bargain” from the vault. All this stuff will be back eventually at a discount.

      • hey ebron? any advice on trees, bushes, flowers, and there use in decorating?

        • Sure…here are a few guidelines I use myself…
          1) keep your color scheme consistent (not a lot of different colors mashed together in the same area)
          2) generally, no more than 3 kind of trees grouped together in a scene
          3) place your shrubs etc as realistically as you can…visualize walking around the yard as you place them. Usually with flowers, stick with one variety in a scene.

I wouldn’t invest any donuts in trees etc when your first starting out…lots availablr with in-game cash😁

          • i only use in-game cash. theres too many things that need donuts to be spent on. thousands, really. If i cant afford Johnny Tightlips or the Abby, (134 donuts right now). then i will buy 3 or 4 beach hideaways for bonus percentage. I dont know which i want, i know two ghosts is a better deal, but i just want a casino, because it makes me feel like i have things from the events i missed.

          • If you really want the casino, go for it…it’s still just a game, so have a little fun😁.

    • I think characters and buildings help with donut collecting because you do get XP from both, multiplied by your bonus and the collider. But I look for bargains in mystery boxes or on sale. I also look for good bonus items.

I try to keep getting my game cash up so if I see a good deal, I can plant a couple more KEM gardens for a while. I get about 9 donuts per harvest also right now from a 25-KEM garden, including the take from other buildings and tasks. With two more gardens, I need to spend close to $1 million per day, depending on how lucky I am at guessing the donut boxes. This is still cheaper for me per donut than buying and selling rat trap delivery trucks or bloodmobiles.

  23. My thought is why do I want a serial killer in my game. Have lived in two different places where serial killers were active, scary. Cannot
Understand why we did not get a detective with Scotland Yard instead. It is a no deal for me this time.

    • Yup, would’ve loved either Sherlock or Arthur Conan Doyle…much better choices to have wandering around.

    • I would of bought this as Scotland Yard but I don’t want to glamorize a killer we need to stop all the publicity on people killing people EA think of all the school killing in your own country they do it because they get there name on news for days

  24. Love the looks of Scotland Yard, but on the fence with donut spend and have zero affection for serial killers. Will check TSTO neighbors. That may induce me to shell…. smooch, RevJRO1650

  25. No deal!!!! Absolutely not,

  26. I snagged this deal, mainly cuz I wanted the building for the design in my head I am gonna do when the event is over.

Plus I’ve been watching everyone in my town lately real closely and they all seem to complacent in the wonderfully designed town I have provided them….. Since we know that in the world of the Simpsons, characters can (and do) die….I think they needed a little extra stress in their lives with always having to look over their shoulders….

  27. It’s gotta be something pretty awful for me to pass…maybe I’m being silly, but a serial killer/mutilator just isn’t “fun” to me. A big, big pass.😬

  28. I got it, in part because I like characters, and in part because I want to get all the London buildings before I leave London in a week, I actually work 5 minutes away from the real Scotland Yard building, so that is a nice e-memento.

  29. If it wasn’t so pricey I’d buy it.

  30. Was really hoping the Gil deal was going was to be The Doctor 🙁
