Gil’s Latest Gimmick: Details and Should You Buy J. Edgar Hoover

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Looks like Gil’s back in Springfield.  He returned to Springfield this morning, naturally with another ‘deal” for us.  What’s the latest gimmick he’s peddling? Well this time around he’s bringing in a blast from US History past…J. Edgar Hoover!

So let’s break down the details of this latest offer and determine if you should spend your donuts on this former FBI Boss….

So when you first get into Springfield you’ll see Gil waving his arms around…just begging you to tap on him…

If you tap on him you’ll see…

Gil: We go back a long way, right?  Well, you gotta help me! A while back Ol’ Gil sold a Burns Dragon to a Russian Agent.  The fella was playing the game in English.  How was I to know? Now the FBI is after me.  I can’t go to jail for treason! On the other hand, free room and board for the rest of my life?  Know what?  Do what ya gotta do!

At which point you’ll see his latest gimmick…

If you refuse…

Gil: Guess this is the last you’ll be seeing of Ol’ Gil.  I’m going to prison… where I’ll live like a king.  Thanks, friend!

If you accept…

Gil:  Wow, thanks pal. You saved me from federal prison.  So long hot meals and showers…

Now real quick because…if you refuse the offer will go back in the store.  It will be there…

This Deal Ends June 26th

If you accept you’ll be awarded both J. Edgar and his “Undercover” Skin…which complete TWO character collections…

And now for the part, you’ve all been waiting for…the Should I Buy…

Character:  J. Edgar Hoover
Costume: Undercover Hoover
Donut Cost: 199 Donuts
Earns: Premium characters, so earns at a premium rate.

This Deal Ends June 26th

Pros
-Comes with two questlines
-Historical significance (at least for American players)
-Amusing outdoor tasks

Cons
-Insanely priced for a character/costume combo that was barely a blip on the show
-Not voiced
-Does not help with the Itchy and Scratchy Event

Final Thought
Premium:
This isn’t a spectacular premium buy.  This is one of those “if you like it, get it” combos.  It’s pricey and there’s no building with it.  Would have been cool if it came with the FBI Building (which was on the show).

Freemium:
Pass on this one.  Way overpriced. You’re better off using your donuts in vault or Mystery Boxes.

Of course, in the end, it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would or wouldn’t do…and as a premium player, I’m on the fence. The historian in me says get it, but the realistic person in me says 199 donuts for this?  But whatever you decide, just make sure you make your final decision before it leaves our games for good (or for now).

Here’s a look at his tasks…

  1. I bought him but i wish he had more visual tasks. The titles are so tantalizing. “Strut” “destroy communism and look good doing it” just scream to be done out doors. He’ll forever be infiltrating bars in my Springfield just so i can look at that fabulous mumu.

  2. I got him. I really like historical figures. But yes, if prices keep being this high even my farming won’t keep up.

  3. Dark_R0nin910

I’ve ran out of buildings to buy with money. What can I do besides the endless grind?

  4. I bought him, I like the skin too much to pass it up. Sad to see the post after this was removed.

  5. I liked Gil deals more back when they really were deals. Gil has turned into a rip-off artist rather than a desperate deal maker. “No deal Gil!”

  6. UGH, since the new itchy and scratchy land, it is sooooo slow. So when the Edgar hoover thing came up, i was trying to move around the town and it spend the donuts on him and I did not want to. No cancel feature….ughh!! Frustrating, as it took me a long time to build up that donut fund.

  7. Kind of unrelated, but I didn’t think people would read an older post. Is 55 Donuts a good buy for Diane? I couldn’t finish getting her in act 1, so I’m curious if anybody thinks she is worth 55. Thanks in advance! Also, completely unrelated but I have no clue where to put it, has anybody noticed that finding Park visitors in friends towns is easier when your friends are at lower levels? I have friends who are at level 50 and I can find 20 Park visitors almost right on the opening screen. But friends who are levels 300 or 400, I have to search almost their entire park. Does anybody else find this similar in their game? If so, anybody know why? Happy Tapping!

    • Lower level towns are typically smaller so finding visitors should be easier. Higher level, bigger towns have more area to cover.

As for Diane, I would say it depends on your donut situation. 55 would be right on the fence. If you’ve got donuts to spare, I’d say yes. If donuts are scarce, she’s probably not worth it.

    • I bought her at 35 doughnuts in two of my towns. It is rare to see a character comeback for less than 50 (correct me if I am wrong). 55 seems to be above the threshold to pay for her. That is just my opinion. As the previous poster mentioned, if you have the doughnuts just hanging around, go for it.

    • Although Diane will help with obtaining event more event currency / crafting currency? She’s really not necessary if you have enough Characters obtaining both at Itchy & Scratchy Land (and she’s not obtaining anything at Premium rate).

I’m personally finding the Mystery Boxes more rewarding, along with a few Premiums in the Store that have returned at discount. It’s honestly up to a Tapper to decide what’s worth the Sprinkles, but please don’t feel let down if you did not obtain her in Act 1. 👍

  8. Josephine Kick@$$

I’d rather have Ma Spuckler. At least Ike had the Ikemonile. His lack of visual tasks for the longer times is very disappointing. Why buy (overpriced) characters that you’ll hardly ever see 🤨 Still on the fence about this one due to cost, lack of a building or “prop”, & visual tasks. I would rather get MS (which I haven’t been in a rush to get). ExtrEAmly underwhelmed. 😕

  9. Yeah Hover is a pass… Thanks Alissa I needed to read the SIB on this one. I. Sure he will be back next year for a lot less.

  10. With FBI office, maybe

  11. TallSpiderCandy

I passed, way too many donuts for me for one character with no building, etc. I did spend donuts to buy out the mystery box though. I usually skip those but thought 50 donuts was reasonable for character/building combos, thanks EA 😁 Thanks Addicts for all you do!! Happy tapping everybody and have a lovely day!

  12. Not only is this overpriced, but this is such an absolutely terrible character choice as the representation of Pride Month, especially over the plenty of other available LGBT characters that can be used like John, Karl, and Grizzly Shaun. Highly recommend a very massive pass to everyone if possible.

    • I think they went with him more for the satire play on the state of the FBI these days…

    • Oh yeah I wish they would introduce Karl… I really miss him, and his sexy voice. “Mr. Simpson, did you remember your umbrella?”

    • Well I’m a Brit and I have Lincoln, Washington, Tricky Dickie I skipped the next one, but Hoover was a no-brainer. My first Gil deal that I snapped up without breaking Gil’s heart first. Even Jesus had to wait whilst Gil was put through purgatory.

  13. Passed on Ike, will pass on this. Political/goverment figures just don’t appeal to me.

  14. DSNecromorphUSS

Easy pass for me, MAYBE if it was 150. Though I do like the costume and significance to history. I’m saving up for the presidents, and I just started my journey into KEM farming so I’m not loaded on doughnuts. Maybe another day, Edgar, then I can buy you those drinks.

  15. It seems that most new characters get visual tasks for their 4 and 8 hour jobs. Since his are at 1h instead of 8, I probably won’t be seeing a whole lot of him in my town. If he had a 24h visual task, he’d almost be worth it.

    • I want to pull the trigger on this but have not done so. Both the Character and Costume have animated/visual 1- and 4-hour jobs. EA made these at the same time and couldn’t even think to distribute the animations so players had better options to see their investments? Talk about LAP and inattention to detail.

  16. Is it me or have we had loads of new characters running around Springfield with guns lately

  17. I took the deal and told myself I was paying 150 donuts for the character which seems to be a new norm for the game and 49 for the skin.
