Should I Spend Donuts on President Reagan and the Re-Education Center?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

It’s nearly 4th of July in Springfield, and that means it’s once again time for the hole in time and space to be ripped open and a new President to appear in town!  In the past, we’ve had Presidents from the 1700s, 1800s, early-mid 1900s appear…this time around we don’t have to flashback to far in the past.  As the President of the 1980s joins our Springfield’s…Ronald Reagan.

Of course with that limited-time label, it can be tempting to grab this past president because he’ll be gone soon.  But don’t sweat it!  That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth those donuts and what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add President Reagan and his Re-Education Center to your Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding this Jellybean loving President to your town…

Character: President Ronald W. Reagan
Building/Decoration: Re-Education Center
Donut Cost: 165 Donuts
Earns: $150, 13xp/8hrs
Size:
16×16
Conform-O-Meter:
Obedience +5
Other Info:
Can be placed on the grass|ocean (yes this can go directly into the Ocean…game changer IMO)

Leaves stores July 11th

Pros
-Can go directly in the ocean, great if you’re short on space in Springfield (plus the ocean is where it belongs)
-Another President for Springfield
-Will use the Re-Education Center for tasks (if it’s on the grass)
-Re-Education Center has a great animation when in use, lights on, birds fly and an inmate jumps off the island.

Cons
-Not voiced
-Outdoor tasks are a little lackluster
-If the Re-Education Center is placed in the Ocean it won’t be used for tasks.  Instead, Reagan will use the Squidport Entrance for tasks.
-Pricey combo.

Final Thought
Premium:
I like this combo.  Then again I like ALL the Presidential combos that have hit this game. I love that the Re-Education Center can go in the ocean, without needing boardwalk tiles.  His animations are a little “meh”, but overall I like the combo.

Freemium:
I’d pass.  You’re better off spending your donuts on the Mystery Box and getting another president for less donuts.  (plus he’ll likely come back next year for less…)

Of course in the end it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would or wouldn’t do…and as I premium player I can tell I picked him up immediately.   But whatever you decide, just make sure you make your final decision before he leaves our games for good (or for now).

Here’s a look at his tasks…

President Reagan’s Permanent Tasks:

Task Length Earns Location
Be on the Lookout for Assassins 1hr $105, 26xp Re-Education Center/Squidport

will also have tasks to Overpay for Sex on the Beach, Try to Win At Blackjack, Drink and Babysit and Dance the Senor Burns…provided you have the buildings associated with those tasks.

  1. President Reagan and his Re-Education Center

The fact you can place the Building in the ocean is a plus, except missing on Reagan having access to the Building for Tasks is a let down …. therefore I am maintaining the not going to buy a Building unless it comes with a Land Token (c’mon EA it’s a no brainier!)

  2. I am tempted to get this. I just got George Washington from the mystery box.

  3. I wonder if EA will ever roll out some dead Democrat presidents? Maybe FDR who comes with a Japanese American internment camp. Nah. I suppose not.

    • Or JFK who comes with Marilyn Monroe…

    • Every President…from bot sides of the aisle….have skeletons and poor choices in their leadership histories. For my money, I choose to get behind the men who do good work AFTER they are President. So…Carter didn’t exactly light things up in office, his work in the past 40 years has been exemplary.

I suspect at some point…we may Clinton. He was in the show a ton.

  4. I wanted to complete my presidential collection so I bought Reagon and Eisenhower. At 150 it’s the going rate for character buildi g combos.

  5. In past years I never bought the presidents.
This year I blew my wad on the mystery box and now own all the past presidents except Nixon.

  6. This was a pass for me until I learned the building is Alcatraz and can go on the ocean, now I want it..

  7. Yeah! Got all the American heads of state from the mystery box. Been actively kem and rt farming. On 900 donuts now to spend wisely! Mystery boxes are good value is one is willing to wait!

  8. I jumped on this as soon as it became available, but I’m just now reading your SIB and saw that the building will go on the ocean. 😳🤯🤩 WOW! WOW! WOW! I’m going to move it right now, now, now! You’re right… total game changer!

  9. While I certainly am no fan, I got him for the collection. Some funny dialogue also. There is only one President I couldn’t bring myself to get.

  10. Pro: best dialogue in the game. Spot on and hilarious.

I’m a history buff, so Reagan was an immediate buy. But I’m waiting for a “mediocre Presidents” mini-event! Yeah, I know… more chances for EA to ruin it, but still…. now, how did the song go again? You’d get Tyler, Taylor, Rutherford B Hayes and William Henry Harrison, I think. Oh well.

On an off-topic note: to Patric- is there a way to “snail mail” a couple of bucks to help out with your school building project? Some of us still live live off the grid as much as possible (I’ve heard of Facebook and couldn’t care less about it). Money’s tight, but I’d still like to help a little, if I can.

As a non-American I’m usually one to just blow by the presidents and the 4th of July stuff in the game. I get it – they’re in America, it’s fun – but I just generally don’t care enough to want to spend sprinkles. This one is weirdly tempting and all I can chalk that up to is he was the president the year I was born, so any early memories of American politics involve him. But is that worth 165? I’m not sure. Is that the standard price for new presidents? And does anybody who did buy him have any thoughts one way or the other on it being worth it?

I thought it was rather tone deaf of EA to put Reagan into the game during Pride Month. They couldn’t have waited until next week? Then again, this is also the company that gave us an exploding rocket during the week that NASA remembers the Apollo 1, Challenger, and Columbia tragedies, so there is some consistency to their lack of respect or awareness.

    • I rarely…if ever defend EA. But, in the world of TSTO…it is Pride Week…not month. They always introduce a President during the 4th of July roll-up. I’m not a huge fan of Ronnie, but I don’t see this as a slight. Additionally, their events are done weeks and sometimes months in advance…and with current events blowing up on a daily basis, it is almost impossible to “stay current” and PC (which the Simpsons writers rarely are).

      • wordsleadmeon

Can’t speak for America but I know we call it Pride month in Canada and various places have their Pride week’s at different times (my local one being a full two weeks before it hit our game). It is also Indigenous History month so I am left a little bit ‘how are these mixy?’ but I just roll with it.

    • Do you even watch this show called the Simpsons?

    • I agree to be honest. They could have waited until, you know, the actual 4th of July. I didn’t know about the rocket one actually. No matter how much people try to push back, I won’t accept that it should have happened. How it got through is a mystery.

Big spend but had to, been planning this for so so long and got them all in one swoop, great as I got the rest in a mystery box, all in at 700 donuts, as a completest, am almost there, 1 year and I will have it all tbc lol

  15. The building looks like a prison. So many California-ish options that would have been a nice addition, so much pretty southwestern architecture out there. This isn’t it…think I’ll pass.

    • Well………. it looks like a prison, because it is! Alcatraz. It needs to be well out in the water.

      • Boy do I feel dumb…never actually looked at a picture of it before, went to Google, and good golly…it is Alcatraz.
        “Re-education center”…pretty obvious, huh?
Some days I just need more functioning brain cells…bring on the freeze dried jelly-fish!🐙

  16. I’m really disappointed in this one. We don’t need another character giving speeches at a podium. Why not have him dress as a cowboy? Movie Ronnie?

  17. I agree that it is a game changer for a building to be placed on land and ocean, however, like you said since it can go on ocean he won’t use the Re-education Centre for his tasks which is so disappointing. It would also have been interesting if his 8h task is outside the Town Hall so he can join the other characters with podium tasks. Considering Roosevelt and Eisenhower are now in the Mystery Box, what are the chances that Reagan and the Re-education Centre will appear in the 4th of July box next year?

  18. Man I want – but too many donuts! Wait till he’s cheaper I guess!

  19. I bought everything in the president mystery box – and I was so lucky not to get sprawlmart!!! I just got all of my presidents and I am so happy!! As for the Reagan, I will wait for next year, and get him cheaper. There are too many seductions this event, and I am far from getting all of them.
An interesting fact about spwalmart. I have it in 2 places : 4th of July mistery box and in the vault. In the MB it costs 75, as does it all. And in vault is 90 with 25 rebate which is 65 total. And no risk, you get what you pay for in the vault. But still I am not buying it, I dodged that bullet with the mystery box! 😄

    • I wasn’t as lucky – I could get either Sprawlmart or Eisenhower, and what do I get? Yes, Sprawlmart! Will donut farm this weekend so I can get Ike!

      • Yep I’m left with Nixon, sprawlMart or the RepublicanHQ in my mysterybox…… I’m not spending 75dounts and maybe not land on Nixon.
I was lucky, I didn’t have presidents in my game and scored all the other presidents & AmericaTown this year.

    • Same here 🙂 I got 3 presidents and the only thing left in the box is sprawlmart. I am more than happy to pass on that 😀

  20. I’m buying because he was my president when I was born, his name rhymes with mine, he was a good actor back in the day, and his name was used in The Exorcist. Also I already own all the other presidents.

  21. I couldn’t figure out why people would have a hard time getting Jack the Ripper in their games (“it’s just a character in a game, wack jobs!”) … until I saw Reagan. Now I get it. No thanks!

  22. It’s Ronnie, of course it was an instabuy.

  23. I didn’t know it could be placed in the ocean! I have to go do this immediantly.

  24. Not spending the donuts. I personally am not a fan of his and do not want him in my town. I don’t understand why they haven’t done Thomas Jefferson yet, or even George Bush.

    • I would get George Bush Sr. in a heartbeat. So many visual task opportunities…including cutouts of George W. and Jeb Bush resulting in a rainbow afro.

      • Bush 41 made famous comments against The Simpsons, was the president during the show’s rise to fame, and was actually a central Character in an episode. (We already have his house.) IMO, he is the single most obvious president to include. All those added thus far, however, have long died. I wonder if his present health concerns are weighing against a decision to feature him.

        • I think you answered your own question. They only feature “Dead Presidents.” So…it’s not really something we should wish for.

          • Agreed, of course, but they added an elderly Stephen Hawking, who subsequently passed. Seems a bit inconsistent.

            • Maybe they asked him beforehand. Apart from Matt Groening he is the only person added to this game during their lifetime, if I’m not forgetting someone. And I dont feel he was mocked in the game, whereas I feel that with presidents they go for it. So I dont see any of the living presidents giving permision, maybe there could be potential for a law suit from the presidents?

              • Weird Al Yankovic was also added. Yeah, I don’t think we’ll get any living Presidents. Also, doing current ones may be controversial, but doing historical figures (I think Reagan counts as one) isn’t going to annoy.

              • As I understand it, you need not ask permission for use of public figures.
