Should I Spend Donuts On Kitenge & the African Tree Resort?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Lions and Tigers and Emus…oh my!  The Springfield Zoo (aka Moe’s Ark) event is in full swing in our pocket-sized towns!  Of course, by now, we all know that a new event means a new excuse for EA to fill our stores with limited-time premium items to tempt us.

As we all know, that limited-time label can tempt us to grab everything in sight because it’ll be gone soon.  But don’t sweat it!  That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth those donuts and what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add Kitenge & the African Tree Resort to your Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding this Simpson Safari combo to your town…

Building/Decoration: African Tree Resort
Character: Kitenge
Donut Cost: 150 Donuts
Size:
6×6
Earns:
$175, 18xp/6hrs
Conform-O-Meter:
Vanity +400
Can Be Placed:
grass|dirt|pavement|boardwalk|pier

Leaves stores August 14th

Pros
-Comes with a short questline
-Can earn event currency at the Emu Experience and Big Cat Country
-Voiced
-The building is animated when in use, lights flicker and birds fly around
-Homer has a permanent 2hr task at the African Resort (Sleep in All Resort Beds)

Cons
-Can only be used for event currency at Emu and Big Cat, will not have jobs at habitats yet to hit our games (in acts 2 and 3)

Final Thought
Premium:
Another overpriced one-off character for Springfield.  However, Kitenge’s price point falls in line with the new standard pricing for character/building combos.  He’s also voiced.  So not a bad purchase for premium players.

Freemium:
While I do think there will be better premium characters upcoming, this one isn’t an awful purchase.  One of the few voiced characters that will be available during this event.  Not the best purchase, but not an awful one either.  So if you like him pick him up.

Of course, in the end, it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would or wouldn’t do…and as a premium player, I’m likely passing.  But whatever you decide, just make sure you make your final decision before it leaves our games for good (or for now). Also, since this is an item that helps with the event, it’s better to pick this up sooner rather than later if you plan to grab it.  This way you maximize the event currency earning throughout the entire event.

Here’s a look at his tasks…

Kitenge’s Permanent Tasks:

Task Length Earns Location
Take a Nap 1hr $105, 26xp African Tree Resort
Dance in a Frenzy 4hrs $260, 70xp* Outside/Visual
Shoo Bush Baby 8hrs $420, 105xp* Outside/Visual
Go to Moe’s 12hrs $600, 150xp Moe’s Tavern
Eat at Krusty Burger 24hrs $1000, 225xp* Krusty Burger

*His 4hr, 8hr, and 24hr tasks will earn event currency for the duration of the event.  Once the event is over they’ll revert to cash/XP.
Will also have tasks to Overpay for Sex on the Beach, Try to Win At Blackjack, Drink and Babysit and Dance the Senor Burns…provided you have the buildings associated with those tasks.

What are your thoughts on Kitenge and the African Tree Resort?  Will you be spending the donuts to bring it to your Springfield? Did you already?  Why or why not?  Where have you placed it in your town?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. I didn’t pick him up and I’m now hoping for a comeback as the building would work well with some of the other content that rolled out. Fingers crossed!

  2. My daughter very rarely goes on her game, tonight she logged on and had 401 donuts and got kitenge and the tree for free. Does this usually happen if you don’t play for awhile?

  3. i got him for free and the game gave me 300 donuts, why is that?

Well, if you are a Tapper who can’t grind every 4 hours? It is nice to have a Character with a Building that helps generate Event Currency (at least it’s voiced, Homer gets a 2 Hour Task that’s permanent, we have had worse offered (lol). 👍

I must agree that it feels overpriced for a one-off Act 1 Premium (EA already assumes that if you Kem Farm, then you will probably buy any Premium) 🤷🏼‍♂️

I absolutely love the tree! Had to pick this one up right away 😁😁😁

  6. Giant Tree. Buy now. 😀

  7. I’ve been avoiding the pricier characters but I decided to pick up Kitenge since I was behind on the prize track and preferred him to Aslan.

His tree resort fits well with the Discount Lion Safari. 🙂

  8. Pyanfar the Hani

Insert usual comment about lack of visual task longer than 8 hours like all the other characters this year. Nope.

  9. One of his tasks has a bush baby? Okay, I’m sold…

  10. My wife, who’s an infrequent tapper got him plus 300 (!!!!) donuts for logging on. As for me, I’m on the fence…

  11. I bought it because the building was unique, but I advise non donut farmers and freemium to pass unless they really love the combo.

  12. I was wondering if it matters that he only has jobs at these 2 habitats? Doesn’t it result in the same currency anyway – which can be used to update any habitat?

  13. I would like to get him but this newish norm of 150 donuts for character combos is still a little hard to swallow. I have begun waiting on all new combos so I get them discounted at a later date. And I am saving for the Halloween Event which has always been my favorite event, except when thEAy blew it last year with the Potter-esque Event.

  14. Been away for a week fishing. First time checking in, too many posts to read. Has EA done something, that will upset me I don’t know about yet?

    • TallSpiderCandy

That depends…some people got 60 free donuts and an offer to buy 300 donuts for $9.99 while others got 300 free donuts, a premium character combo as well as an offer to buy 2400 for $19.99. So guess it depends what boat you are in. Also some people got the better deal then lost it magically while others had no issues. A big ol mess for sure. I miss when EA made this game fun, now I get so frustrated and disappointed it takes all I have not walk away. Hope u got the better deal!! (I did not).

  15. What does duff mcshark tank do?

  16. I bought this the first day it was offered. Donut farming is awesome.

  17. one random shoe

still thinking whether to get this. i like the building design, but definitely is expensive for a one off character. also wondering if anyone is having problems with the invasive toads showing up? i’ve had neighbours notifications i should have around 30 in my springfield and even making everything in the town see through, i haven’t found any of them

    • If you don’t hurry he will not help you with the event. Description above says not help with acts 2 / 3?

    • I think the notifications you get are when your neighbours accept the frogs you’ve sent them. I love the collect-all feeding house, but you can’t see which neighbours have sent you frogs because it clears them all at once.

  18. I don’t know about anyone else. The $20 for donut deal is awesome! I have literally bought everything I wanted and then some. This update is the best bang for your donut!

    • Except it wasn’t offered to everyone. Including those of us who have spent thousands in this game. So great you got it and took advantage. But shame on EA for not offering it to everyone

      • I had an animated discussion with EA this morning which led to an exasperated sales person exclaiming “I’m really sorry, but I seriously have no ideas about the criteria on which our team offers this to our players, so I would not be able to comment on this but I would request you to please post about this issue on our forums as our team gets most of their ideas from the forums themselves and our team might look into this issue and they might be able to resolve this for our players. I will also share your feedback with my team myself.” Well I shall be sharing my views on their forums and will let them know in the process that they will never receive any money from me again. I think that the approach of EA with this ‘offer’ has been appalling and a real smack in the face to it’s players.

        • I agree Gamblor, I think I found your post on the EA forums and added my 2 cents. I tried to suggest what I deemed to be a reasonable alternative, of course it’s too late for this event.

          • Yes, I saw your reply and thought it was a very helpful contribution. I have to say, I am surprised at how many people on the EA Forum were quick to defend the offer. Whilst some of what was being said was, in principle, obviously correct, I was surprised that the ‘well EA can do what they want’ argument resonated with as many people as it did.

    • There were some that got another offer of the 2400 donut one for 80% off and no one can seem to figure out EA’s logic on either deal why some got one and some the other

      • From what I’ve gathered, if you haven’t logged in for a while (like over a month?) you got 300 donuts and could buy a boatload (2400!) for 80% off(!!), while regular players got 60 free ones and could buy a truckload of 300 for 50% off.
I imagine that their thinking was that this would spur less active players to get back into things but it’s actually bassackwards, just shafting their devoted base.

If all i will get is the 50% off deal (300 donuts for $9.99) I’ll probably go for it, but I’m certainly in the camp that’s unimpressed with this.

        • The logic behind all donut deals is very simple. EA needs the players who spent actual dollars rarely to none to shell them out.
If you spent before, you are likely to spend a little more again. If you never spent a dime, it’s very difficult to get you started. They use both weapons:
          great deal and exclusivity
to make freemiums fork something over. 20 bucks is definitely is about as high as will ever get with freemiums.
This is both bad business strategy and good marketing to a specific target audience (fremium).
I spent some dollars, probably a hundred total, in the past, but I don’t think I will ever do that again. The possibility of the game crashing glitching or back rolling scared me dollarless hahaha
I am not offended by the deal, I am surprised so many people are baffled by this or outraged. This is too small to worry about.

        • Josephine Kick@$$

That was the exact deal I got. Thought I was misinterpreting the different offerings everyone got. Guess not, & not cool EA, plus they could have gotten more money out of me. 🤷‍♀️

A good reason to buy this is the way you can use this in a safari themed design with the big cat enclosure and sign… have seen some neighbours make this look really awesome. The Aslan buy doesn’t work as well into the zoo design as many have already mentioned.

    • I bought him right away because I thought I could put him in big cat country. I like to add to the look

  20. Love that episode, so got him as soon as I could. The fact that he helps the event is just an added bonus!

  21. Can you share what event currency we should use up now and which ones we can save and use next Act?

  22. TallSpiderCandy

Just curious why a bunch of people got this for free, not to mention 300 free donuts and a $19.99 2400 donut deal?? I was not one of those lucky people. I got 60 free donuts and a $9.99 300 donut deal…which I tried to buy twice. Got charged twice but still no donuts ☹ EA said wait 24 hours. That was first day of event. I have contacted them almost everyday since and no response. Soooooooo disappointed 😢

    • No one is more annoyed by it than me…

      • YOU didn’t get squat? YOU??? Wow….just wow.😮

      • Tracy-1ltwoody920

So….., what you are saying is:
“Mine is bigger than yours!” ? ? ?
        🤔🤔
        😇😇

      • You would think EA would reward players who log in everyday and have been playing since the beginning…. It seems they reward the opposit.

        • And as a result I refuse to put more donuts in my A game (I’m forced to in my b game because of this site). Which is why I’m passing on nearly every premium item.

          • Factor in that those folks can then proceed to buy premium Items at half price and they’re now getting a 90% discount compared to what you paid. How do you like them apples? 🍎🍏

            Bad form, EA.

            • I never mind the discounted items, they are what they are. I want the shiny new item immediately instead of waiting for the sale, so that’s on me.
My beef with this is the deliberately didn’t offer this to certain players. It’s not random, it’s deliberate and taking advantage of those of us who shell out cash regularly.

              • wordsleadmeon

Does once a year count as regular? I wouldn’t think so, yet maybe EA does ’cause I got the 300 donut deal in my A game, too. Which was tempting until A) all the ‘paid for but didn’t get’ issues and B) the 2400 deal in the totally freemium, no farming B game I hadn’t touched since the start of the last event. I would have figured out a way to come up with the 27.99 CDN for that, somehow. Assuming I could be sure I was going to get it. As it stands now I’m not even inclined to do the 300 because 13.99 is still a lot of money in my world, and to not get it and have to go through the hassle of asking for a refund either from EA or Google isn’t worth it. I want to support the game, but there should be some reasonable guarantee I’m getting what I pay for, too.

        • I don’t think it’s log-in frequency. I got the offer for discounted purchase of 2,400 donuts but only got the 60 free donuts.

I’d guess that the free stuff is based on log-in frequency but the purchase-offer is based on purchase-frequency.

    • I’m still waiting on my 300 donuts from the $10 for 300 donut deal they have the ticket and both proofs of purchase they wanted.

      • TallSpiderCandy

They said give them 24 hours and it should be fixed and now they are completely ignoring me. My next step is filing complaints against them…this all is ridiculous! Sorry you are suffering through too; hopefully they get on the ball soon–what a mess

    • I got my 300 donut purchase resolved within a day with help from EA! – strange though that they haven’t made a fix for this? – pissed off though that my B_game (which I don’t care that much for) got the 300 donuts and this tree for free (yes – the 300 donuts appeared after a few days!) – and the deal for 2400 donuts! – gaaah, don’t know how to do there, I barely touch the B-game nowadays, but the 2400 donut deal is really great, why didn’t it appear in my A-game :-/

  23. I like the look of the tree resort and will consider buying🦁

  24. I have had my main since before Whacking day (great event) and 2 other accounts that I have not used in a couple months. I get 60 donuts for my loyalty? My other accounts got 300 donuts plus the African Tree Resort with the premium character, thanks EA as this is making me want to quit the game because that is just not rewarding loyalty but saying take a month off and you get more than grinding out donuts. EA basically gave 450 donuts for taking a month off vs. 60 for playing everyday.
The actual event is nice but give the same rewards to all off don’t give any. I may not continue this fiasco if the don’t at least compensate the African Tree Resort and Character, let alone the donuts. End of Rant.

    • I have the same situation (a main game plus several dormant accounts at the start of the event), but my results were different. My A game received 60 donuts, and my first B game received 300 donuts and this character. But like some others, the 300 donuts disappeared right away. I held off checking my other games for a few days, and when I logged into them I only got 60 donuts each. Eventually, the 300 donuts reappeared in my first B game.

So, not everyone who took time off received that deal. To me, it looks more like a bug that they fixed, but they didn’t take the bonus away from the lucky few who got it.

Would have been nice to get it, but I’m happy to have received 60 free donuts, personally.

Thanks for taking the time to write these, Alissa! Always look forward to reading. Will the Emu Experience and Big Cat Country not generate event currency when we send characters to tasks there after Act 1? In other words, since Kitenge only has jobs there, will he not help earn event currency after Act 1?

  26. He has a job with an adorable little squirrel. Enough said.
