Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!
So something EA’s been slowly rolling out over the last year or so is this new bonus for actually spending cash on donuts. (instead of just farming them) Where they attach a premium, limited-time, character to one of the donut bundles in addition to bonus donuts.
This time around we’re being offered Butterfly Maggie, a premium costume for Maggie, for a truckload of 300 Donuts ($19.99 in the US) plus 100 Bonus Donuts (so costume + 400 donuts). While it’s hard for me to sit here and tell you if you should or shouldn’t spend actual cash on the game (spoiler, I think you should always spend at least a small amount…even if it’s $.99/year on the game if it brings you joy and you want to see it continue) I thought I’d do a quick breakdown of Butterfly Maggie, her tasks and other details you may be curious about.
So let’s consider this an abbreviated Should I Buy….
So what is the deal? When you can find it in the Currency Tab of your Store (also by hitting Get More)…
Basically spend $19.99 on a Truckload of 300 donuts and get 100 Bonus Donuts plus Butterfly Maggie costume.
And yes, for those outside of the US I know my price is probably lower than yours. EA only charges 19.99 USD for this package…anything over that that you are currently paying goes to Google/Apple/Amazon for Tax and Duty etc. EA only collects the 19.99.
So, personally, I think this is a terrible deal. $19.99 is WAY to much to pay for the costume. Plus, full discloser, I’m still pissed at EA for the nonsense they pulled with the Day Old Donut Deal so I’m not spending money right now. You don’t punish your customers that pay. (note the different amount of free donuts 60 vs 300 doesn’t bother me. Just the discounts offered) You make the same deal (Boatload of donuts for $19.99) available to ALL players, not just those who don’t spend money. It’s not right and it’s ridiculous to just assume those that spend money will continue to do so at a higher rate. So the joke’s on you EA, because you royally pissed off this loyal TSTO player who has spent THOUSANDS in this game over the years. Anyway…

-Will not earn event currency

That’s pretty much it on Butterfly Maggie. A premium costume for Maggie and while she’s fun, I don’t think she’s worth the cash. I’d pass. (even if I wasn’t pissed at EA)

Might I make a suggestion as to a better use of your cash, rather than “donating” it to EA? No harm…no foul…we support EA the rest of the year. Right?
It’s getting to the point now where one truly has to think about what EA is offering Tappers, and it appears long time players (who may spend a Lil’ real $ on occasion) were not being discounted properly …. so, as cute as this is, I am joining those who said “nope!” hoping that EA gets the message (“nope!” to 300 Donuts on Premium Characters that used to cost 150, “nope!” to 100 Donuts per chance at a Mystery Box when that used to be around 50 to 70).
Sarah Wiggum was truly my main splurge this year, unless something worthwhile is available for Halloween / Christmas (but don’t expect me to schill 333 Sprinkles on something like that 3 Eyed Whale). 🤷🏼♂️
So the patch today got rid of Maggie’s special 4 hour task that paid 636. That is somewhat annoying. Do you think they did this to try to drive sales of this skin? I might have considered this skin if it had a 16 hour task for Maggie so I could align her with the Playdoh factory timer.
Aaaw, I just sent her on that task yesterday. It was cute.
EDT 3:46 – “Celebrate Like it’s 1879″… I have Maggie on that quest currently (for another 2 hours or so). That has been the only quest I have sent her on (except the Playdough Factory daily), so I’ll report back what happens to Maggie’s quests later. Don’t patch her out! Noooo!
PS I was one of those with the 2400 donuts at 19.99 USD, but it took me a few phone calls to EA, screen captures, and 10 days to finally get my sprinkles.
Alissa, I agree with your sentiments on the day old donut deal. I have played for years and this is the only game I spend money on. While I am not big on buildings, I have tried and, mostly successfully, collected every character this game has ever offered (even the ones you said to not buy). My husband, who never spends money on it, got the deal and then said that would be all he ever bought. I went to buy it and saw I had a different deal. When we found out it was because I had the audacity to support EA and this game over the years versus he had not, I felt ripped off. I am at the point where I am considering never spending money on it again. After all, maybe I will be rewarded for that versus being punished for keeping the game going all this time.

As a farmium player I normally buy everything premium EA has to offer AND bought also Hans Mechman or Maw Spuckler. Seems to be fair.
But a skin? No way, EA! The doughnuts don’t interest me, in 15-20 minutes I farm my own 400. My interest is to keep the game running so I invest some real cash sometimes. BUT FOR A SKIN? A FRACKING SKIN???
Noest. Way. Ever. Period.
How does one farm donuts? Just wondering.. i am new to the game, not from the USA.. if that has anything to do with. Is there a premium and not premium/standard version of the game?

Do a search in the search box…there are loads of articles on farming.
You could search it yourself but I’m still going to answer you (because I type fast and don’t have anything better to do right now): Use the XP multiplier and buy as much Bloodmobile (in the Miscellany item menu) as you can while keeping enough money. You’ll get the XP reward several times, use money you spared when you don’t get three donuts.
I am totally confused here. Isn’t the way price normally 19.99 so for the same price you get 100 extra donuts and a Skin. How is this not a good deal if you are going to buy donuts normally?
Also what is the day old donut issue? I am lost on what everybody seems to be upset about. Clue me in so I can be upset too. Please won’t somebody think of the children?

Too much…any package over $9.99 and I automatically shut it down. Bad enough that premium deals are up to 300 donuts…I won’t encourage a $19.99 package.
Also, it’s not a difficult choice…spend $20 on something I’ll forget about in a couple weeks, or spend $20 on something that will make a difference for a child’s entire future. A no-brainer.😁

My sentiments exactly Patric, will not buy this deal and am so annoyed at EA for not giving us loyal players, who often hand over our hard earned cash, the same deal – it’s absolutely outrageous. I would have bought the boatload for $19.99 (or £) but I am not buying this. I am now reluctant to pay any money for this game anymore with the way we have been treated.

Already have a premium skin for Maggie, which was only 60 donuts. Have that.
I already planned on getting donuts but had to wait a bit before I could so I only considered it a small bonus compared to past deals like it. On side note I so agree with you on the gil donut deal, but after what happen with it I doubt they will try running one again with how flaming the forums were and the mass flood of tickets they got because players not getting them.

I’ve made the decision that if I’m doing something and the price doesn’t seem excessive with respect to the amount I enjoy it, I don’t mind spending money to enjoy more. When I compare the amount of time I spend messing around in the game and how much I enjoy it to say, a movie or something, I find occasional donut purchases to be pretty reasonable 🙂
I like that everyone can decide to do whatever they want though and that the game is not unplayable or inaccessible to those who don’t want to pay a dime. It’s great.
I reframed this to not feel gouged with the butterfly skin. In my mind I bought Sarah Wiggum for 300, and had 100 extra donuts for something else plus the Maggie Skin for free.
This was my thought process as well and this is by far my favorite Maggie skin. Squee!
Even with the added incentive of an extra 100 doughnuts (translation: 🍩 donuts) this is a deal that just doesn’t appeal. And that’s not just because I’m from a country that is claimed to be overly frugal.
I say 400 donuts and a premium skin for one of my favorite characters! What a deal…. I mean what if I pass this up? When will it come again? And 400 for the price of 300…

I am feeling exactly the same as you are right now, EA isn’t seeing a purchase from me until I am either not angry anymore or they do something to make amends to the people that have been investing in this game.
I am unsure if I would have made this purchase if the boat load of donuts issue wasn’t a known factor for me for I was mad before this promotion started and it has definitely influenced how I feel.
