TSTO Musings About Tagging

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Another TSTO Thursday and as usual I have some thoughts for you.  This time I’m musing about…tagging.  Yes, it’s time for me to finally weigh in on the topic Patric loves to talk about.  I’ve got a bunch of thoughts so let’s get to ‘em…

-First of all, let’s talk about Patric for a minute….
Love him or hate him you’ve got to respect the guy for going all out and really investing himself in a topic.  I give him credit for his passion and emphatic debating skills….or just his cranky pants.  Either way, the guy is passionate about Tagging and he’s really sparked some fun in your guys in an otherwise boring time. So let’s give him credit for that.

-I’ve been largely silent on the whole Tagging debate.  Why?  Simply because I just don’t care.  I never have.  I’m indifferent about tagging.  Tag me.  Don’t. I don’t care. I never have.
To me, it is what it is.  I chuckle when I see certain people tag me (like you G-mama Dar!), but I’m not offended if I don’t get tagged.  I’m just indifferent about it.

-There are plenty of you out there, like me, who are just indifferent about tagging.  You can take it or leave it.  There are also plenty of you who really love tagging.  And plenty of you who hate it. And both groups have their reasons.
Of course, there are even some of you who have a weird tick about it.  They don’t know why they don’t like it, they just don’t.  Those are probably the people that hate the word “moist”…

-So if I’m indifferent about it why do we have a whole thread for tappers to add friends who won’t vandalize them?  Because why not? It’s something we started 5 years ago, and it’s just continued on since.

-I have noticed though that some folks get real…crazy when they get tagged by someone off the vandalize free page.  That I’m not ok with.  It’s a game.  No need to yell at someone or single them out.  Accidents happen.
Over the years we’ve had some really nasty things said on that thread…which is why you see a massive disclaimer about what you can and cannot say on the vandalize free thread. Putting people on blast for tagging has never been cool with me.

-The bottom-line, tagging IS part of the game (otherwise why would it be an option on the game?).  It ultimately has very little impact on your conform-o-meter…and you get points back for cleaning it up.  BUT…there are still some people who just don’t like it.  Just like there are some people who use the land dedicated to Springfield Heights as a junkyard.  Or those who leave their Christmas decorations/lights up all year long.
There’s no right or wrong way to play. BUT when it comes to how we treat each other there is a right way and there is a wrong way.  So let’s try and show each other a little compassion.  If someone tags you and you don’t like it, get over it.  Just tap the mop, clean it up, and move on.  Don’t put that person on blast for doing so.  EVEN if they do it all the time.  If you don’t like it, delete them and move on.
Likewise, if you have a neighbor you know hates being tagged, don’t do it. If you only want to tag your neighbors, then delete that neighbor that doesn’t like it.  There’s no need to tick each other off.

-So what about the future of the Vandalism Free Add Friends Page?  Well I’ll leave that up to you…sorta.  Ultimately I’m going to make the call, it is my site, but your voice does matter to me.  So answer the poll question here…and feel free to share your thoughts in the comments…and we’ll decide what to do about it.

-And finally…Patric has inspired me with all his tagging!  So look for a super fun contest to launch tomorrow (and run over the weekend) centered around tagging.  That’ll at least give us something to do while we wait for the next dang update….

Thoughts? Care to share your own musings?  What topic do you think I should tackle in my next musings post?  Sound off below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. Here’s my dilemma — back when I was a wee tapper, I found this site and after reading about the cult of non-vandalizing, I decided I should do that so I wouldn’t hurt my star rating. All of my neighbors are from the no-vandalize list and I don’t know any of them in real life.

Now I realize I don’t care about not vandalizing. So I delete all those friends and start over? Do I tag them and if they don’t like it, they can delete me? Just stick with no tagging? Hmm …

    • The way I play, is to tag everyone and let God sort it out. Kidding! Kinda…

If one of my friends hates it…I don’t do it. But, so far, nobody has deleted me…so maybe I just chose well.

In regards to ‘vilifying’, ‘get a life’ and other comments that some or all may consider to be obnoxious.

I figure EVERYONE is a jack-ass (yes that includes me), so….

Why get upset if someone calls me a name…
    I’ve certainly been called worse,
Either to my face or behind my back.

Bobby McFerrin sang about it quite accurately

    Smile people

  3. I like being tagged. Lets me know a neighboreeno stopped by. 😁 Did put no opinion though for the vote. I see zero point to having a debate or separate page over it.

Time with my family has been my number 1 priority for the past year, so I’m not spending as much time playing. I still LIKE being tagged, and it always makes me smile. Even though I won’t be able to compete in the contest, I’ll move my Moe’s & Luigi’s closer to the Simpson’s house to make it convenient for my neighbors, but first come, first serve 😂😂

On another note, EVERY.SINGLE.TIME I post a comment on WordPress it makes me sign in, so that’s why I’m not commenting more. I’d digress now, but I’m not as good at it as Patric 😂😘

    Hugs,
    G-Ma Dar

Incidentally, if this is a duplicate post, thank WordPress Alissa 🌺

    • I went thru that for a while and finally re-registered with a different email and password. I could still use my chosen “handle” for the site, so no problem. Don’t know how my old registration was corrupted, but it’s never happened since, so I’m happy.😁

  5. I’m one of those tappers who has never cared about being tagged. It’s a part of the game so why not enjoy it, if you like it 😁 I don’t tag any neighbour who doesn’t tag me just in case they get upset. If you tag me though I will consider you fair game for tagging so be forewarned lol 😁 Almost none of my neighbours tag me anymore, perhaps out of fear of being called out for it. I would never as it’s just silly to get that worked up over a game lol.

I have about 50 available spots for new neighbours so please feel free to add me, GoddessGaladriel 😁

  6. I say delete it. I agree 100% with Alissa about feeling indifferent about it. Sometimes I really enjoy the “El Barto” & if you look in the city hall windows there’s Quimby’s shadow chasing Miss Springfield…if I’m remembering right,,that is. It’s part of the game,,& is harmless in the overall picture. Honestly,,Alissa & Patric,, I don’t know how you guys manage to stay sane dealing with all of this stuff!!

  7. Tagging is okay with me and it is a mute point right now as all my friends have disappeared and that is the second time that has happened in the last two weeks. They just reappeared last time so will see.
    Thanks for the site.

  8. I’ve always tried to not tag, even though my neighbors were not taken off the no-tagging list. I’ve rather not tapped anything rather than tagged and moved to the next neighbor. I’ve accidentally tagged some towns, though.

About the time of getting the donut factory and reaching >600% bonus, I’ve mostly stopped visiting friend towns – which I primarily did for the possible donuts in there. It simply took too much time for the potential return. At over 6.400 donuts and basically nothing interesting left to buy from the yearbook, I don’t really desperately need this income any more with about 12-15/day with regular jobs, challenges and Find Maggie.

Nowadays I only regularly visit the town of a personal friend of mine who returned to playing TSTO after some years of absence and has some catching up to do with FPs.

  9. I really don’t care if I am tagged. I am far enough into the game it doesn’t really have any effect, and even if it did… it’s a game. I play to relieve stress, I have 99 problems and tags ain’t one!

I try not to tag in others towns though, because I do have friends on the no vandalizing list. Every now and then I have done it accidentally. What can I say? Slip Happens!

Whether you keep the no vandal list or just do a general add friends list it’s all good to me 😁

  10. Is it the vandalize free page where the negative comments are about tagging? I have never read them. I’m guessing the moderators get a notification when some one leaves a comment. Maybe just turn off notifications for that thread?
Thanks for all the help over the years!

  11. “moist” 🤣🤣🤣
you could be a registered therapist after moderating this site! patric’s not abrasive – he’s refreshing. you’re both hilarious when you let loose – especially after you’ve said something a million times already. thanks for the laughs

    • I had a friend in college who couldn’t stand the word moist. (she also didn’t like the word bungalow 🤷‍♀️) I made it a point to use it every chance I got. I managed to fit Moist Towelette into a LOT of conversations.

      • Rusty Shackleford

I also don’t like when people say “veggies”, they are vegetables once you are over age three.

But anyways, my colleague at work found and framed a picture of vegetables with the saying “Pass the Veggies” on it and hung it in my office! Yeah, it’s still there and makes a great conversation piece…though I never mouth that foul word.

        • LOL! Love it!

          • Rusty Shackleford

What was funny was that it took me awhile to notice the picture, my colleague was laughing the whole time. She finally said, “I never thought I’d see that hanging up in here”

        • OMG, Rusty! I was JUST going to write that. I HATE the made up word “veggies!” It’s like finger nails on a chalk board. We don’t say “fruities” or “meaties”… who came up “veggies” anyway? I just want to slap them!

          • Oh… one more. What’s up with the word “welp?” That one drives me nuts too. I’ve never heard anyone say that word, but I see it on the internet all the time. The only “welp” or is it “whelp” that I know is when baby puppies no longer nurse and can eat “moist” solid food. “Veggies?” Perhaps? 🙂

          • We use snackies and dipies in our house…

          • Rusty Shackleford

When my three year old niece says those things, it’s cute, but otherwise it’s not.

I heard a lot of this baby talk was due to Rachel Ray’s popular show where she made Sammys with veggies and it was all so yummy and fluffy.

Sometimes I wouldn’t mind being deaf.

        • 🥕🍅🥔🍆🍠🥒

        • I have a friend who loves to use the word sammies for sandwiches and if she weren’t one of my best friends in the world, I would have ended it long ago.

          • OK. So you got me to hunting the Urban Dictionary with that one. I thought it was some sort of derogatory or racial slur. But no…just the way your friend actually talks about sandwiches! Too funny!

I’ve never liked the term “anyways.” It makes me nuts.

    • Thanks so much. That makes me “moist” around the……eyes.
