Musings on No Bucks Given…

Happy Musings Thursday my friends! I’m back with another musings post for you.  I’ve got some thoughts, so let’s get to ’em…

So we’re nearing the end of the No Bucks Given mini-event.  Seems kinda crazy right?  Didn’t it just start?  That’s the nature of these mini-events, they move quickly and it seems like as soon as they start they’re ready to end!  So less than a week from today, April 1st, the No Bucks Given mini-event will officially end and, of course, I’ve got some mini-event thoughts.

First, this mini-event is loosely centered around baseball and I’d be remiss if I didn’t comment on the fact that today should be Opening Day in Baseball.  You guys know how much I LOVE baseball.  My family is a baseball family. Plain and simple.  Baseball is woven into the fabric of our family structure, and has been since my husband and I first started talking to each other.  In fact it was baseball that brought us together.  And since our first conversation, baseball has been a strong part of our life.

A baseball game is where I first met my husband’s family.
The Baseball Hall of Fame, right by of the plaques, is where my husband proposed to me.
We had a baseball themed wedding reception.
Our bridal party walked out to “Centerfield”, and my husband and I walked out to “Enter Sandman”…because, well, Mo.
Pregnancy announcements for both of my children revolved around baseball.
And countless other baseball moments

I can’t tell you how many baseball games we’ve gone to as a family.  So many memories and amazing family moments have happened around baseball.

So yes, today should be Opening Day and sadly the baseball season won’t start today.  It’s more important that we all Stay Home, but man I miss baseball!

Today we celebrated Opening Day at Home, with our traditional family baseball photo…it’s important to keep up your normal routine!

Anyway, hopefully, life will go back to normal for all of us soon.

Now let’s talk about No Bucks Given…

Aside from the whole baseball aspect, I’m a fan of this mini-event!  EA’s proving the model out that mini-events tend to be better than “major” events these days, and it’s no different with this one.  No Bucks Given is significantly better, in my opinion, than the Black History Event.

The Good

Prizes.  4 buildings and 1 character on the prize track, with no crappy decorations or retreads…or even free donuts.

-Buck Mitchell is voiced. Some of you won’t see that yet, but it’s a nice surprise for a free character.

-Tabitha Vixx is a good premium addition.  While her tasks are a little…risqué, they’re still good tasks and a massive amount of animation involved.

-Dialogue has been great, like most events recently.

The Bad

A couple of the buildings, the stadium and the Mitchell Mansion, are HUGE.  Massive footprints that can be hard to fit into a Springfield that’s been around awhile where space is limited.

-Tabitha Vixx isn’t voiced.

The Ugly

Nothing.  There’s nothing in this mini-event that I would classify as “ugly”.  It’s been a good, solid, mini-event.

Final Thoughts

Overall I give this event an A-.  It’s a solid mini-event.  Easily the best one of 2020 😉

Thoughts?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. this event… all i gotta say is… Tabitaaaaaaaoooooohhhh… wolf wolf.. lol.

  2. I really enjoyed this event. It moved along at a nice pace and I actually wanted to read the dialogue. As a freemium player who occasionally does a bit of bloodmobile doughnut farming the last event was a bit frantic. I raced through the dialogue and spent way more doughnuts than ever before just to keep up each week.

  3. We don’t do baseball in Scotland but wish there was a dedicated baseball sports channel we could watch, finished event a couple of days ago.

  4. Nice event, great prizes.

Best event so far in 2020, let’s wait and see what the rest of the year brings us!

  5. I thought this was really one of the most generic and lifeless events in a long while. Always got to have the generic trope baseball episode. Then there’s the brainless ditz and slow-witted jock who really do deserve each other.

The black history event was much better but stuck around for a bit too long.

Alyssa, I wonder if you’re a bit biased? 🤣 I get it, so to each their own.

  6. @Alissa I had tickets to the Bluejays home opener today. Cancelled obviously 🙁 . I have been getting my fix watching the Jays glory years via youtube. How are you getting your Yankee fix?

  7. I agree this is the best event of 2020 and one of the better mini events. Aside from the usual unresolved bugs and no item limit increase, the items in this event have been great. The Isotope Stadium and Mitchell Mansion are the best building prizes while Buck Mitchell is the best overall prize plus he uses 2 of the prizes for tasks. The totals are all the same but at least they’re achievable (I got Buck Mitchell last night without the extra premium character). It’s no surprise that Tabitha Vixx isn’t voiced in the game since she was voiced by Mandy Moore in the show. I only wish that there was St. Patrick’s Day content and some more returning sport content. I’d rank this event an A.

  8. Those poor kids need some Red Sox gear.

Event has been fun, I am through it.

  9. Yeah, it’s about that time of the year, when you can hear, this song all over town – ⚾🧢

    “We’re talkin’ baseball!
    Kluszewski, Campanella.
    Talkin’ baseball!
    The Man and Bobby Feller.

The Scooter, the Barber, and the Newc.
They knew ’em all from Boston to Dubuque.
Especially Willie, Mickey, and the Duke!” ….

I’m going to agree that the Mini Events are more appealing when the Prizes are good, continuity is applied, and there’s less of that “this is too much of a Grind!” feeling …. it sure seems like EA did it right this (from the Prizes to the Premium Character w/Stage Combo) …. I can’t wait for this all to be over so that one can be physically social again (like a Football Club Tournament!) ⚽🥅

  10. I hung my cubbies flag outside today and had a moment of silence….

  11. I am thankful that I am having to get 200 for each prize instead of the 400-475 of the last event. I finally finished getting the last event prize two days ago.

  12. Is it just me or is the audio really quiet for buck I can only just about hear what he’s saying when I tap on him compared with when I tap on other Springfieldians.

    • I notice that with some characters but it might be because in the game I usually have the music and sound effects at 50%. It could be a thing with your game and device’s volume.
