THOH XXXI Act 1 in Live! The Rundown and What You Need To Know

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

It’s everyone’s (well almost everyone’s) favorite time in TSTO, the annual Treehouse of Horror Event!  Yes, Halloween in Springfield has always been big deal in TSTO and this year is no exception! Also always, loads of dialogue with this one, so be sure to read along to see what happens! And of course, I’ll be posting it as each week wraps up…

Once again we see another multi-event in Springfield.  So love them, or hate them, they’re still here.  So let’s all try to make the best of this…

Anywho….things kick off with a 60s task for Lisa.

After you’ve completed the initial task you’ll kick off the 2020 THOH Event!

First, remember this was an app store update available for download.  So if you haven’t already done so, and you don’t see the Splash Screen above for your game, head to your app store and update TSTO.  You may have to search the store for Tapped Out, as it doesn’t always appear on the update list initially…

Here’s EA’s event synopsis:

To acquire new equipment and new funding for its schools, the Springfield school system has joined up
with a new educational partner: Old Scratch, the devil himself! The city’s new school redistricting results in Bart being sent to Hades to attend Hellementary School, where he soon finds himself the new star pupil. Jealous of the praise Bart is getting, Lisa sneaks into Hell only to find that Old Scratch intends to keep Bart forever. Old Scratch strikes a bargain with Lisa: if she can fail all of her Hellemantary School classes, she and Bart can return to their normal lives after the school year is over, but if she passes even one subject, she and Bart will be stuck in Hell forever.

Lisa accepts the devil’s deal but finds resisting the temptation to do well in school more challenging than she thought. Afraid that she might not win her bet with Old Scratch, Lisa gets Bart to help her escape, but the devil is ready for them and throws Lisa into Hell Detention.

Worried about Lisa after Bart reports on what’s happening down in Hellementary school, Marge orders Homer to go rescue Lisa. After a failed attempt to find a way into Hell on his own, Homer gets some unexpected help from Ned Flanders and soon finds himself making his own ill-conceived bet with the Prince of Darkness.

Unable to make herself tank her final Science report on Evolution, Lisa passes, consigning all three
Simpsons to an eternity in perdition. Old Scratch gloats and tells the Simpsons to make themselves at
home — which they do, soon driving the devil crazy. Unable to endure the Simpsons’ antics any longer,
Old Scratch sends them all home and everything returns to normal.

We should all know by now unless of course, you’re new to TSTO that the prizes for this event follow the same questline format to unlock as our regular mini-events do.

Just like every large event recently, this is not your typical Major Event.  And there are pros and cons to that, and everyone will find their own pros and cons.  And some people’s pro will be someone else’s con.

As always, I just ask that you have an open mind, and reserve judgment until we’re into the event.  It’s 5 weeks long, it should be fairly easy to complete, you’ll unlock a bunch of new prizes and no crafting to grind through,  so let’s just have some good old fashioned TSTO fun! And, as long as you don’t rush things, you won’t get bored because it’ll change each week!

Here’s the event schedule:

Act 1 Starts October 14th (WEDNESDAY)
Act 2 Starts October 23rd (FRIDAY)

Act 3 Starts November 1st (SUNDAY)
Act 4 Starts November 10th (TUESDAY)

Event Ends November 18th, 2019 (WEDNESDAY)

As I stated above, the initial quest is 60s .   Once completed you’ll start the School Days, Hell Daze questline, which is the Act 1 story to follow.  This is how you’ll unlock the Act 1 prizes.

Note: Some of you have mentioned you are having trouble getting the event to start.  You need to download the latest update and the requirements for this are: Level 12 and you MUST have Bart and his Treehouse unlocked.  It won’t trigger without those two.

The Devil is in The Details
Auto starts

Skinner: Okay, set those digital whiteboards up over there. Gently…gently…
Lisa: Digital whiteboards, new computers for every student… Mr. Skinner, did the school win its lawsuit against Burns Slant Drilling?
Skinner: No, Lisa. Sadly, it turns out Mr. Burns locked up all Native American property rights decades ago……so the school being built on top of an ancient burial ground is NOT going to finally pay off.
Lisa: Gee, that’s…too bad. Then how is the school paying for all this fancy new equipment?
Skinner: We, uh, have a new partnership with a very financially well-off neighboring school district.
Lisa: Shelbyville doesn’t have any money, and although half of Europe seems to be located in Springfield now, I don’t think they count either.
Skinner: Can’t we just have nice things for once?
Lisa: In a public school? No.
Skinner: Uh, just run along now, Lisa. School is no place for children to be asking questions.

And this triggers the entire story premise for each act…

(and yes, just like I did for the past multi-events, I’ll be posting full dialogue for this one before each week is over)

Now let’s talk about what’s included…

Here’s the Act 1 Synopsis from EA:

Lisa is surprised when she shows up for school to discover digital whiteboards and new computers being added to every classroom. She soon learns that Springfield’s schools have partnered with Old Scratch and his Hell schools. As part of the new school redistricting, Bart gets sent to Hellementary School where he soon racks up straight A’s. Jealous of the attention Bart gets for his newfound academic success and the fun it sounds like he’s having in school, Lisa finds a way to sneak into Hell only to be confronted directly by Old Scratch.

She learns that the devil is planning to keep Bart in Hell forever, but he’s willing to change his mind if Lisa goes to Hellementary School with Bart and fails all of her classes. If she passes even one class, she and Bart will be condemned to spend eternity in Hell! Thinking this will be an easy bet, Lisa accepts.

Your thoughts on the event?  Thoughts on the content?  Excited to see the storyline? Sound off below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. I really like the content and its nice to have a Halloween event where you don’t need to have past content to help design a Hell area. The prizes are pretty cool. Old Scratch and Donut Homer are pretty iconic from early THOH episodes plus Donut Homer is cheaper to buy than Muscular Milhouse was in the Van Houtens event. I wish they kept the same mystery boxes from previous years and added more items to them instead of creating a new one but at least I got the Fortune Teller from it.

  2. Has anyone noticed a pattern to which prize it awards you in the Token boxes? I feel like it’s given me the first or second prize listed on the far left most often.

  3. I can’t complete the fortune tellers quest part 5, “go on a tropical vacation”… I have Frink, but the task doesn’t show up for either of them. I see someone else had troubles with an earlier task for her, any resolution found?

  4. Donald MacAlpine

I don’t seem to have the Evil Shopkeeper in my game at all.
He’s not in the yearbook, he’s not in the event items and he’s not in my inventory or town hall. I’ve searched all of these places several times now.

    Anyone else got this problem?
    Any thoughts?

  5. Anyone having issues with the fortune tellers task “deal with slow business”. I cannot start it as it does not appear on the task list. Both tent and brown house are placed.

  6. I saw the minion bundle for sale, but then I found each of the minions listed individually for free. I clicked on one, and got it, but then the others and the bundle disappeared. Grrrrr.

  7. What’s in the 20 donut bundle?

  8. I’m probably one of the few that’s hoping they add more characters/buildings as pay only and it leads to better, more unique, events.

  9. Anyone else having problems with their Sky Finger Monument?

Mine just did nothing on activation (other than resetting to 24hrs), then I rushed it to confirm and it did not do anything on the second go either.

This is a fresh install on a new phone (both less than 24hrs old), unfortunately, I won’t be able to confirm if its phone- / install-specific until tomorrow.

  10. I like the story line a lot. I already have a good Hell Elementary design so looking forward to a few extra items to fine tune it.

I also like that Spooky Forest Bundle for 20 donuts gives you 5% XP Bonus……don’t see that ROI very often.

My only critique is that I was looking forward to Halloween music.

  11. Great idea for the zombie dumpster! It would be great to add a couple of other core characters to it or the nightmare pile too.. Hey EA I would love it if just the shop keeper and or the Krusty doll was added in the item/mystery box.. Does anyone know when the last time the spuckler brood was offered?

  12. Zombie Sandwich Dumpster.
Re issue it – lots of basic characters become zombies — great!
    Expand the characters associated.
Lengthen the time, from 1 hour to 4 or 8 hours

    • Totally agree, I love the zombie sandwich but would be better at 4 hours, btw rivers now green and spooky music playing 😁👻
