Over the past 600+ episodes, The Simpsons has taken us on an amazing journey involving music, science, and food to name a few concepts.

And what better way to start your week, then by discussing some of these concepts Monday morning?

So let’s get started this week by talking about some classic The Simpsons original songs.

In the fifty fifth episode of The Simpsons, Colonel Homer (Season 03, Episode 20), when Homer gets upset with Marge, he goes off for a long drive and ends up at the Beer ‘n Brawl. There he comes across the singing cocktail waitress Lurleen Lumpkin, voiced by American singer and actress Beverly D’Angelo.

Beverly D’Angelo (November 15, 1951 – Present)

Upon hearing her first song, Homer is touched in a way he couldn’t imagine.

Homer: “Lurleen, I can’t get your song out of my mind. I haven’t felt this way since ‘Funky Town!’”

Homer then agrees to be Lurleen’s manager. He gets her song on the radio and books a studio for her to record. The whole Simpsons clan is in attendance at the studio for her second song.

Lisa: “I can feel her sweet country soul in every digitally-encoded bit.”

Homer is pretty successful as a manager and gets Lurleen a TV gig. Much to Homer’s oblivion, Lurleen starts developing feelings for Homer and sings him a third song to express her desires.

Homer faces a conundrum of being a manager to a rising country superstar or being happy with his wife. When Homer chooses his wife and resigns as Lurleen’s manager, she sings a fourth song.

Bunk with Me Tonight

His name is Homer,
He’s quite a man.
I tried to kiss him,
But Homer ran.
